As a Geelong supporter this still haunts my dreams. A fateful day in football history. Credit where it is due but it was a crime that we didn't win it that year. The best home and away season alongside Essendon in 2000. That aside, Hawthorn were brilliant that day and got it done.

What was so spine tingling about it was the fact we went up a gear, basically eyeballed the cats and went "are you coming with us you arrogant wankers?" than proceeded to smash them into the ground in a 10-15 minute period. Showed them up as complete front runners who couldn't handle the heat going the other way. What made it sweeter is we did it 2 men down from half time onwards. They had no excuses.

We won our 2 finals leading into the GF by 10 goals. We were the form team going into it which seemed to be forgotten because of the love affair the media had with the Cats. They also only beat us by 2 goals in our only other meeting that year and that was because of 2 Luke Hodge mistakes which they capitalised on. For long periods we were on top in that game too the Cats were not clearly the better side. Felt confident we were the best equipped to beat them that year we had enough weapons to worry them and so it proved on the big day.

They have only missed a couple of finals appearances since 2000 but have only converted 3 times. I am a Hawthorn supporter but you gotta give Geelong credit for their consistent finals appearances
