Last week-end was a Fred binge watch. Avec home brew. Fred visited the Crossness pumping station at the southern, outfall end of the then newly constructed London sewerage system. The largest beam engine at that time. The four cylinders were named after Q. Victoria's kids. There's a great doc called the Great Stink. Well worth a watch imo. The architecture and internal decor is fitting as the bulk of the sewerage system, being underground, can't be seen. Thanks, pal. Proper Norf. 💪

Hello Mr H, you wondered in the video why these engine houses all had such large windows.......well, when it was a complete new built of a mill they would build the engine house first knowing roughly what the engine footprint would be. All pieces of the engine, including the sections of the flywheel, would be passed through the large window and assembled. Once all was in place they'd stick the window frame in.

Sheila climbed many of the chimneys in that time. Theres a story by fred when a camera man followed them up and he was green 😂 sheila took the camera and the guy lay down on the scaffolding at the top to compose himself. Good old stories. Keep up the good work fella. Good wishes from scotland ❤️🏴

This boiler has a built-in air filter before the chimney!

I met Shelia many years ago at the Great Dorset steam fair. we talked about Fred's steam roller Betsy. it wasn't that long after some scrap Metal thieves had stolen parts off Fred's steam engines while they where still parked in his back garden. the Thieves stole the owners plate off the side Of Betsy's boiler that Fred had polished up for many years. I believe that the stationary engine is at the Bolton steam centre while the traction engine has a new owner and been named after him. I Believe Betsy and Fred's Land rover are still with his family
