this is fucking revolutionary. I don't think I've ever seen a talent in the beatboxing community quite like this. He needs SO much more attention than he has!

Revolutionary? He's running hi s average beatboxing skills though a ton of post processing. This is not how he sounds in real life.
@HappyDragneels_page5 ай бұрын
@@RufusThePorkshank but it is though, helium has been infamous for his insane inward bass for probably close to a decade, ive seen videos recorded on old phones and he still sounds like an alien, and other than the reverb on the melodic drop theres not a lot of postwork, just a studio quality mic
@KindOldRaven4 ай бұрын
@@RufusThePorkshank He actually does for the most part, just check some of his live streams. Sure you'll miss the echo, reverb and due to lack of compression you'll find that some sounds are too low in volume compared to some others... but I'm guessing you haven't seen this guy do anything live quite yet. I was actually surprised to see this guy and for example Taras Stanin to sound as good as they do without even a regular mic in front of their faces.

"They've never seen the light" - Colaps
@alkmibeats21336 ай бұрын
What do those lyrics even mean? I’ve been trying figure out since he dropped the track
@Dropicals-Bottle6 ай бұрын
@@alkmibeats2133"They've never seen the light" is a metaphorical expression that typically means someone has not gained awareness, understanding, or enlightenment about a particular truth or reality. It implies that the person or group remains ignorant or uninformed about something important. The "light" in this context represents knowledge, truth, or clarity.
@Zackboy.6 ай бұрын
@@alkmibeats2133 I spoke to you on discord once
@alkmibeats21336 ай бұрын
@@Dropicals-Bottle thank you for the response and explanation, my friend 🙏🔥❤️ I actually do understand that phrase’s meaning and implications when invoked, I just meant to inquire more on a second-order level of analysis-as in, “what does the metaphor of someone who has not yet gained sufficient understanding of (xyz/enlightenment/particular truth or reality), have to do with the narrative structure of colaps’ particular routine or the storyline of whatever kind of picture/soundscape that routine is meant to depict?
@Dropicals-Bottle6 ай бұрын
@@alkmibeats2133To analyze the narrative structure of Colaps's routine using the metaphor "they've never seen the light," it is essential to understand how this phrase fits within the broader context of his performance and the story he aims to tell through his soundscape. Colaps, known for his beatboxing and looping skills, often creates performances that are more than just displays of technical prowess. His routines typically weave a story or evoke specific emotions, engaging the audience on multiple levels. Here’s a deeper analysis of how "they've never seen the light" might contribute to this: 1. *Theme of Enlightenment and Awareness*: The phrase suggests a journey from ignorance to understanding. Colaps could be using this metaphor to depict a transformation within the narrative of his routine. His performance might start in a dark, chaotic soundscape, symbolizing confusion or lack of awareness, and gradually build towards a more harmonious and enlightening climax, representing the attainment of knowledge or truth. 2. *Emotional Arc*: Beatbox routines like those of Colaps often follow an emotional arc. By incorporating this metaphor, he might be guiding the audience through a progression of emotions-from the darkness of ignorance or despair to the uplifting realization of enlightenment. This journey can be mirrored in the shifts in rhythm, intensity, and complexity of the sounds he produces. 3. *Social Commentary*: Colaps might be using this metaphor to comment on broader social issues. "They've never seen the light" could refer to societal ignorance or the unawareness of certain truths by the public. His routine might aim to highlight these issues, urging the audience to open their eyes and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. 4. *Personal Journey*: On a personal level, Colaps might be sharing his own journey through his art. The metaphor could reflect his experiences of overcoming challenges or gaining new insights. His soundscape could thus be a sonic autobiography, with "seeing the light" marking a pivotal moment of personal growth or revelation. Understanding Colaps's intent and the specifics of his performance can be enhanced by watching his videos and paying attention to how he integrates different elements to build his narrative. You can explore more of his work on platforms like KZbin to see how he uses sound and rhythm to convey complex stories and emotions.

That was absolutely incredible! In my opinion what really makes you stand out is your obvious awareness of the value of putting together something cohesive, expressive and well balanced in terms of highs vs lows energy in the context of a consistent groove. I've never thought of myself as a "beatboxer" by any means but over the last 20+ years it's been obvious to me that using "non over the top" snippets of beatboxing in deep house music really had some serious appeal in the context of a complete track including different instruments. What I really wish would happen in the beatboxing scene is more of a shift towards syncopated (or "shuffled"/"swinged") grooves, and more willingness to showcase beatboxing blended with other instruments as an instrument integrated as a part of a bigger whole where it no longer has to necessarily be the central focus. I've mostly found the "straight on the 1/16th grid" electro/dubstep-ish sound not very appealing musically generally speaking (even though it's clearly impressive technically) but I think a shift towards more sophistication & a stronger groove feel emphasis would really elevate the appeal of beatboxing on a large scale. Considering there's all this technical ability clearly building up in the community, now feels like the perfect time to shift towards more musicality & sophistication, and I view you Helium specifically as being at the forefront of that shift, you're awesome man 😊!
