Seems to me one should go from the high PSA readings, or abnormal Digital Rectal Exam....RIGHT TO THE MRI, bypassing a biopsy.....not the other way around. Why waste time on a "shot in the dark, inconclusive, and slightly painful biopsy procedure, when the Multiparametric MRI can do so much more?

Why would anyone have a biopsy first and then have an MRI and another biopsy? That is barbaric not to mention extra cost with an unneeded second biopsy if done right the first time. Do the MRI first and then the biopsy if needed. By the way have them put you under for the biopsy. A local sucks.

Would it not be wise to have a MRI first before a biopsy if one's PSA is abnormally high? And, is there any Urologist in Toronto, Canada you would recommend?

I though the latest Pre-diagnosis/screening sequence seems to be PSA-Repeat PSA-DRE-3TMRI-Biopsy. Which may avoid biopsies in some instances.

How and where is it injected, what does the mri consist of, and why would you not want to do this before the first biopsy?

Very interesting why do random biopsy then 6 months later an mri if psa goes up seems backwards?

I have a prostate MRI tomorrow. A bit nervous. My PSA was only 5.

That was 7 months ago how did your MRI turn out friend?

Ended up with a slightly high Gleeson number, but confined in the prostate. After a biopsy, Pet Scan, markers put in, then 28 sessions of radiation. Some urinary pain, but much better now. Check PSA next month. Thanks for asking. Hopefully I finished for now with doctors. lol

My PSA which was 8 rose to 15 and back to 12 due to antibiotics ( bacteria) Now its 19.5 with no bacteria. I have done a MRI - Its 30 grams with no tumour and acute prostatitis. Dr.. prescribed antibiotics again for 3 months. Your advice please.

Thank`s, this was very Good, I`m doing an MRI first, then if they see something that should be Biopied, then I`ll move forward. You should have something to Biopsy, Not Just a Hit or Miss Procedure.

This was a well scripted video, with good explanations of the terms and procedures. The presenter was a bit over exposed (her image is too bright). I think the impact would have been greater with a few images demonstrating the procedures described to better illustrate the points made. Keep working on this. Are you aware that a varicocele can elevate psa and enlarge prostate from backflow of free testosterone..after a high psa i had an mri which came back negative but psa kept going up..the varicocele was causing me pain and i lost most of my free testosterone..so i had yhe varicocele fixed and all reversed..psa ..prostate enlargement..free testosterone all went back to normal..drs are not being taught this but the research is out there proving this..varicoceles are the root cause of bph...dr are you aware of this
