PLEASE READ
Welcome to the second episode of Beyond the Table, where I try and tell the history of Critical Role! Thank you so much for the support you have given!
In this episode, I explore the beginnings of Critical Role's stream and their first campaign. In the next one I will be talking about the progression of the group during their second campaign.
If you would like to support what I do, you can join my Patreon or offer a donation which allows me to work more on this channel and devote more time to it!

I also have a discord channel I have created that I am still fleshing out. But it is really easy to get ahold of me there!

Video by SupergeekMike: • Let's Talk About Tiberius
Thank you for all the support again for this Docuseries / Video Essay. Webster dictionary defines documentary as “a presentation (such as a film or novel) expressing or dealing with factual events” which is exactly what I am trying to do. I will be referring to it as both a Docuseries and Video Essay, since that is what I feel it is, but more often I try to just refer to its title “Beyond the Table.” I hope this is sufficient for everyone, and that makes sense.
This clips all belong to their respective channels and I am just merely telling a story, so all of the credit really goes to the owners of these channels, and especially to Critical Role.
Have a wonderful day! and I will see you in the next one.

I don't know if it's relevant but it is note worthy that Matt and Marisha got Married over the course of the one shot hiatus. They were wed the weekend between both of Talisin's Vampire game. That's why they were killed in the first part and absent from the second.

You might want to add that, in Grog’s one-shot there were NPCs of a male half-orc and a female tiefling with a baby. This was a nod to Travis and Laura’s upcoming characters for campaign two, and a hint at Laura’s (not yet announced) pregnancy.

Felicia Day is the Lucille Ball of Critical Role. Lucille Ball was instrumental in bringing Star Trek to life. I was actually at the Wizard World Portland convention. I missed that panel that you showed, but they also had a Sunday morning panel that I did get to see. It's wild to think that was just 7 years ago. That panel wasn't even in a main hall, it was just one of the rooms. Not even that big if I remember right. A bit of trivia - 17:50 Liam's 2nd one-shot, in April of 2017, was the first occurrence of "making my way". During Taliesin's vampire two-shot, Matt and Marisha were both "killed off" early in the first episode because they had to leave for their honeymoon. And while it's more Geek & Sundry related, rather than specifically Critical Role, you could mention all of Marisha's work as Creative Director for G&S, and the many shows she helped create over there. Shows that several members of the cast guested or starred in: Sagas of Sundry, LA By Night, Eric's TBD RPG, Signal Boost, etc. Also, for the next video, a bit of triva - Jester actually appeared on a couple of one-shots that Laura was in on other channels before she appeared in the Mighty Nein: Critical Role at GameSpot (1st appearance of proto-Jester) (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmfRlXhmg5mfZ8k) Critical Role x Kinda Funny (2nd appearance of proto-Jester) (kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3q9qqSBiKZqiMU)

Thank you so much for acknowledging BWF’s current situation and keeping an appropriate distance. Anyone like me who has considered him a part of the CR family surely hopes he gets things back in order; even if it’s not with the Cr folks and Ashley in particular, just overcoming his challenges would be best for everyone. And we as fans not flaming the embers of drama and speculation is all we can do. Thanks man! My heartfelt support and healing to the whole gang!

It's sad that it got out the way it did, and that so many of the fans responded the way they did. It's clear that they didn't want it to be public. I think you're right. You can't not talk about him with regard to the history of the show, but this was well done, just acknowledging it and moving on.

Well said Scott and Kudos JR for addressing this (as well as the smaller issue around Orion) simply, directly, and with compassion. Really sad to see it unfold, the misery caused to Ashley and family, and the contrast to the synergy between a BWF - at arguably his best as an excellent host for Between the Sheets - and an eloquent and fascinating cast. Wishing healing for them all indeed.

This man has been shamelessly riding on their success and Ashley's for more than a decade. Even after ten long years, he hasn't accomplished a single thing for himself. Since the day they met, he has been leeching off their existence. CR family? Absolutely not. Get him far away form them. Even as a host, he turned everything qround him.

I started watching because Matt Colville recommended it, citing a *certain incident* towards the end of Campaign One. I had tried to watch it before but I was put off by the length of each episode, but I started from the beginning and powered through-albeit quite slowly-and I'm now about ⅔ through Campaign Three having watched all the Specials and the EXU mini-campaigns in between. I think I can honestly say that not a minute has been wasted, even during those first 27 episodes❣

I personally could take or leave the first 13 episodes. They really don't do anything more than explaining where/how they got the Mcguffin they take to Vasselheim,(which can be picked up through conversation) introducing Kima (but she kinda gets reintroduced later, so not terrible) and giving context for anytime the cast references Clarota and how important the Carpet is to Laura (not super critical information) You bypass so many of the technical issues and production quality and there are very few threads introduced here that end up having any sort of lasting ripples to the rest of the game. Cutting out 14 to 27, and you lose your entire introduction to Vasselheim and the Slayer's Take, which end up being the entire focus of the final act,(locationwise and also guest character wise) the introduction to both Gilmore and the Raksasha, the actual introduction of the Briarwoods, Grog's intro to Earthbreaker Grune, our first look into Keyleth's aramente (which also has foreshadowing for the chroma arc) I don't care how much you dislike Orion, not catching these episodes is a serious disservice to the entire Vox Machina story.

You should have mentioned why they killed Tiberius in the show and when that happened. I know it was kinda already done although the way he left alive meant there was a chance he could come back as the same character, yes to the views who didn't get why he left, he could always come back as a different character. Although I felt it not only added to the story and the drive, it also was them saying the person/player was dead to them and subtly telling the viewers to stops asking for him back.

Thanks again. Nice and informative video. However, two points: 1) 3:46 "Infamous CR logo"? TBH no clue what that means or is in reference to (currently mid C2). What's wrong with the logo? 2) Can't help but notice you included the mandatory (at this point) "half chub" bit by Orion. And are you same as all others who use it as the example of inappropriate behavior? Did you not hear him explain that it was meant as the character line and not a comment towards Laura? And have you seen how "appropriate" everyone else acted since that time? It's probably the most full of dick jokes show that I've ever seen. And it's apparently ok to do for everyone but Orion. In this regard I always remember the comment by Taliesin, saying that all Orion was saying was "laced with sexual innuendo". Well, that's hypocritical AF, seeing how everyone else including Taliesin made a pile of ultra inappropriate sex jokes since then and he was nowhere to be seen with comments like that, he just sat and took it. Meaning he was very comfortable attacking Orion and calling him out (for what really? making jokes? "your fun is wrong", eh?) and waaaaay too cowardly to call out anyone else or follow his own "moral compass". That's what made me loose respect for Taliesin early on. Mind you, I'm not defending Orion. And it is for two reasons: I literally don't know him as a person, same as everyone who's accusing him of all kinds of sht based on heresay and speculation. And it is obvious that some fuqd up sht happened off-camera that led to his booting off the show. Still, if you accuse a man, do accuse im of factual serious stuff and not silly nonsense like metagaming or inappropriate behavior which everyone else n the show did plenty of.

Hey, really enjoying the series but in the first part and in this part of the series you've used the word infamous incorrectly, not trying to be that guy but just trying to help out. I think I think a better word to use in those instances would be either famous or iconic.

Haha, my wife said the same thing, I just couldn’t come up up with a better word because i felt like I use famous and iconic a lot, but it’s good to know someone noticed!

So we can all agree Campaign 1 ended so soon because Sam decided to be a hero

How did the character archs happen? Did they discuss in detail before the campaign, did Matt decide from the beginning and help the players design them, was it a one on one discussion before the campaign or was it organic as the story went? Nott the Brave was a great character arch. I want to know how her whole story developed.

I’ll be honest and say I don’t remember what the inappropriate comments from Orion were when that is a majority of Sam’s original character Scanlan Shorthalt
@JRCollections
@JRCollections Жыл бұрын
That is definitely true, I think it was more of a combination of already being frustrated with him, and the players felt the comments were directed towards them, rather than their characters, and Scanlan always kept it “in game”

Fantastic. I too followed and started playing DnD due to this stream/setting. Still running a Exandria Campaign that is approaching 6 years! (level 18!) one point/correction that i only noted as i am from GenCon country and avid Campaign 1 fan... I believe the first live show was in LA/near them and a smaller venue. perhaps someone here can point out the location. did not see on the video or wiki. Great work. look forward to more! :)😁
