Born in India, raised in Oman, few years in India and back in UAE. Not sure which I can call home. I try to make wherever I live feel like home now. I can never forget the broken hearted girl I was..crying while exiting the country I called home after my family visa expired. You're right, only the ones in Middle East can understand and relate.

I think I am the only one here with the different perspective... I am an Tamilian and moved to Oman after my marriage. Those 4.5years had been an absolute heaven. I had more friends, learnt what independence really means after being in a joint family where you can't even go to a nearby shop without informing your family members. Enjoyed my life with my child and husband, travelled alot and was absolutely devastated to know that we had to come back to the same old bubble. Its been 2 years now and I just can't stop thinking about how much fun i had in muscat and just can't wait to go back to middle east. I don't mind which city its gonna be but I just wanna run away. Pls bless me☺

Hi Jovita! I used to live in Kuwait until 2005, and then moved back home to Goa. I relate so HARD with all your points, especially the Diaspora issues. As a former Gulfie kid, the whole "neither here nor there" especially when conversing in my mother tongue becomes quite prevalent. 🤣

Jovita your video was truly on point. After having lived in the US for nearly three decades, I was apprehensive when we had to move to India, but it was unfounded. I made wonderful friends, traveled, had house help, felt like I belonged. What can I say about the food, the jewelry, the clothes- it was magnificent. I was happy never to have to wear jeans again. My life in the US was hectic, I felt isolated, I resented being told to “ do what makes you happy” if I ever asked for an opinion or just needed clarification. I also felt like many other first generation immigrants that I truly did not belong despite being educated there, having a successful career and all the other trappings. Our stint in India is over and we are back in the US but boy do I miss waking up to tea served in bed, piping hot samosas, friends who dropped by, disasters at the hair salon, chaotic traffic, the song of the birds, the colors around me, the festivals, the markets, the warmth of people, the feeling of belonging. I wish you great success in your new home- may you find love, happiness, good health and contentment.

I'm Bengali and born and raised in the UK and never left... The UK unfortunately has never felt like my home. I 100% can relate, and I also felt so much more at home in Bangladesh, India and Nepal even though my Bengali isn't great just simply because you understand people and felt understood.

not Indian or Middle Eastern but I've been following you for years for how relatable you are (and great tutorials) - but this one takes the cake! I was raised by Polish grandparents (very extremely Polish upbringing....but 60y behind so never quite Polish enough for Poland, but not American enough for Americans), and then lived in California but ages 11-13ish lived in St Lucia (Caribbean), then went back to California, then off to Norway, then East Coast USA (which might as well be a different country culturally I found out), then back to California.....never quite fit in anywhere as a "third culture kid" as they're saying these days, but finding roots somewhere is so refreshing.

Hi Jovi.... Loved your video, I too was a gulf Malayalaee... Came back to India along with my parents and settled down in Kerala 😁... It was like learning everything from scratch how Kerala works, how to get things done, taxes 😂.... Etc etc... But I love it here now.. support system is fantastic, healthy living and best of all not being treated as second citizens and freedom here ❤️❤️❤️.... Love you 💗 and your videos ... It's so much fun... 🥳

I can see that you have hidden all the pain behind the smile of yours. I can completely relate to how you feel . I stayed in Dubai for 35 year , I was a 3 year old kid and had to come to India due to my husband's kidney failure .it's not easy moving from place to place with a 6 year old kid not knowing anyone with even one relative to go to or someone who you can relate to . My husband passed away this January , Now it's just me and my son . I have my dad here and that's it ............. I too don't wear jeans , hair it fried , skin is all 50 shades of brown , and don't get me started with how my feet look . God has been kind to us for keeping us safe and just waiting to start something for our future .

Totally agree with your point about being treated as second class citizens to all south Asian people in the Middle East. My sister lives in Qatar and I know exactly what you mean. How can they treat people like that especially when they have to rely so much from all the hard working people from India, Bangladesh , nepal etc . Growing older I realized that living in your own country is so soul satisfying.

Hi Jovita, just watched your video. I'm from India, but lived most of my life in Newzealand & Australia. My husband is from Kerala & I'm from Mangalore.

I’m so happy Atleast someone is talking about this now.. have been living in oman for 25 years and shifted back to india .. Even though the country has given me a great lifestyle l have realized after my school years and ones I started working there ,that how much ever we contribute to the economic growth of that country by working even harder than most ppl there even their own nationals we always get that second class citizen treatment.. it’s insane why they invite people to their country for work but always put restrictions such as noc for job changes and most employers don’t even provide that and most people are stuck at the same job forced to work under the same salary especially considering the cost of living there.. it’s just not fair.. we deserve to get atleast an equal treatment and opportunity for growth if we are contributing to the growth of an economy of a particular country… thanks alot for bringing this up 👍

Thanks for making this video, I am one of those weird combo mixes so I also struggle with even deciding if I should visit my other country of birth. I could relate to a lot of the things you shared in todays video. But it also encouraged me to say yes go, there are so many lovely things to look forward too. I might just make a trip to get that sense of I fit here, i dont need to feel weird. Keep making videos, sick of the short reels everywhere which just steal ur attention but don’t give you solid content. Will continue to support your channel jovita.

You are so right about the salons in Kerala....I went to a salon long back and they popped my pimples on my forehead saying that they're whiteheads and it won't recurr, I refused and still they went ahead and I ended up having red bumps ,I still got small bumps on my forehead....No good salons where you can get a nice haircut. Went to one last year and they ruined my hair .....We need a regulatory body to monitor the services

Glad that you finally found your balance. For Sushi I'll say, try it from other parts of India. Like you can try that in Mumbai or Kolkata. Like places with Asian restaurants run age old asian people. By that I mean the East Asians. Maybe you can finally find your Sushi. And about Salmon, well Idk. But there are a lot of smoked fishes which are Parsi dishes or Anglo Indian dishes. So may be you can other variety of smoked fish.

This is soooooo relatable. Not with the NRI stuff but with the living in a humid place. Like picking out clothes based on the right material. I have curly hair too and I was conscious of my hair for most of my life. It's been a little bit over a year that I've started doing the curly girl method and I've fallen in love with how my hair looks. I don't even remember the last time I straightened my hair. It's still a task to manage it and most of the time I have it up in a bun.

Always been a fan of your humour, though a silent viewer , couldn’t control myself today. Mom’s jeans, dad’s, boyfriend jeans whatever 😂.

OMG! I agree with almost all the things you said. It takes a couple of years to get to know the locals here. And I have stopped wearing jeans and have become completely desi. Simple cotton salwar kameez for a comfy family routine. I never used to have chapati before, now I make them. Another thing, is high heels. I do not wear high heels anymore. Unless someone uses a car for everything, say no to heels. Only for occasions. And home delivery is so expensive here. Atleast where I live.
