@@SvetoslavBonev It stops at 40m exactly for safety reasons, cause that's the standard limit for recreational diving. People are dumb and will 100% put themselves at risk to see the number go up, and Apple doesn't want to have to deal with that. Same reason why Snapchat limited and then removed the speed filter.

@@luca_sbll thank you for letting us know that you don’t have a clue about diving! It is important to see the depth at any time! If there is an emergency and you have to go deeper than „allowed“, or for what ever other reason, I have to know exactly how deep I am. That’s the reason why I will stay with a professional dive computer and not a fun watch that keeps informations from me.

The computer that is shown in the video that the dive instructor is using is called the suunto zoop. It is not bright at all and uses a dot matrix screen. I owned this computer 10 years ago and upgraded many times since then. The zoop is a great entry level non air integrated dive computer but comparing the screens would be comparing an OLED TV to a screen on a calculator. It’s definitely going to be interesting when the app launches, but there are competing dedicated and non-dedicated dive computers on the market that rival the Apple Watch ultra.

Does the suunto double as a smart watch? Does it measure heart rate, oxygen in ur blood? ECG? Does it have dual band gps? Is it made out of titanium? Does it get regular software updates? Can u download apps for different uses? Can u use it as a payment method like apple pay? Does it measure water temp? Does it track ovulation cycles? Does any diving computer have all of these capabilities? No. Apple watch ultra is a smart watch that has all these capabilities and more, in addition to its ability to do basic diving computer functions, and i know, some Garmen watches can do all that but will cost way more. So!

@divesoflo
@divesoflo Жыл бұрын
@@thefilmfactory4880 That was what I was getting at. Having the Apple Watch next to the Zoop and commenting on the screens was kind of an unfair comparison. The Zoop came out in early 2000, then they relaunched with the word novo attached to it, but essentially it was the same computer. The apple was launched this year so having a 20 year old piece of dive tech next to a smart watch with a 2000 nit screen should look better. The Garmin watches that offer diving functions are on par with the Apple Watch price wise. When air integration is factored in then the price is increased. The Apple Watch is not and will not be air integrated. $800 for a smart watch that does basic recreational diving with no possibility of air integration is not absurd, but there is other options out there.

if the Apple Watch ultra does not calculate any saturation, which I need for several dives, and also does not display any decompression times, or deco dives is not accompanied or allowed, it is not relevant for me as a dive computer. every dive computer can do that today (also beyond 40m), and you should be able to do that by then. whether the upcoming app oceanic supports this is not yet known. Actually the watch records the depth below 40m. You can see it in the health app if u go to "Show all data" but it is not displaying it on the watch itself. I guess it's more of a liability issue and apple doesn't want to encourage people to go deeper than the typical hobbiest level

A diving computer is basically a calculator for gases dissolved in your blood. Without accurately showing this information to the user, will it be able to show the truly important information dive computers are for? Namely planning your next dive, how deep and how long you could go, how long before you can fly, etc? "Liability" and "encouragement" doesn't come into it. It's a calculator that can't show its working after the number 40.

Your comment on the brightness, while compared to the other computer (which looked like a Suunto Zoop) seems a bit misleading. The Zoop doesnt backlight by default. You're looking at a fully lit OLED screen on the Apple, compared to a non-backlit Suunto Zoop (think 20+yr old LCD dot matrix watch). The Zoop is the absolute bottom of the range dive watch and the screen types are nothing remotely similar. ... I do, however, fully agree that the Ultra should report depth when beyond 40m!

If you're regularly diving to 40m + you probably won't be relying on an old Suunto computer which is quite dull as you say. A lot of divers doing that sort of depth and doing decompression are using Shearwater or OSTC compters which are quite bright. Of course a dive computer isn't there to warn you that you're running out of no stop time but so that you can manage your decompression. Don't think I want to pay £80 to subscribe to an untried decompression model. I'll probably stickj to a real dive computer.

Hmmm not sure what to chose: $200 for Suunto Zoop or buying iPhone, Apple watch and diving subscription for $2000. Wait! There is an option of buying Suunto Dive with tank pod for $700! Not sure why should someone chose Apple Watch Ultra.

theyre selling it as a diving computer, giving you the addons for free, and charging you extra for basic diving computer function. Steve Jobs' passing really nailed on Apple's downfall. i have no idea how this company was able to maintain momentum

As interesting as this video is - but the thought of being in a 45 m deep pool is so unnerving to me as a non-diver :D

$800 watch vs a $1500 watch. Really comparing apples to oranges here

For starters Apple even tells you on there website to have a backup dive computer with you when diving with there so called dive watch. So just by a real dive watch/command get it over with
