Nice! I wish I had come and filmed you! Want to be featured in a laceleaf video? I’ve always enjoyed what you do. If you do I would actually send a film crew to you like we did with Plantman

I take it that using loppers are a no no...I've used them on 2 inch branches instead of a saw, using a saw can be a bit tricky and a bit more patience. I understand pruning in early spring may be best. I never really started pruning until last year and I really went to town on my orangeola, garnet, tamukeyamas and viridis in the summer and thought when done I over did it...they have been in the ground for 15-18 years. This spring they look great, I think they were suffocating thinking they need airflow. Getting underneath then wasn't fun in the hot summer and I know not ideal time but they look great and now you can see some branch architecture and a lovely flare...For me hiding the flare and not showing some beautiful branch structure is not doing the tree justice but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. I have to say for me pruning is fun and the art or craft of enjoying these beautiful trees and glad I finally started pruning after 19 years of doing nothing but watering. Trim out what doesn't get light...BEAUTIFUL...glad I listened to the podcast just to hear that.

It greatly depends on the branching you are removing. They can be useful imo

I never understood why people are afraid of pruning. For me the pruning is the most fun part.

People ask me how come my trees grow faster and fuller than theirs , my answer is always, because I prune
@Matti69506 ай бұрын
Pruning a Cornus Kousa Satomi is not fun :D It's a slow grower has almost no compensation branches (after prune) and very few leaves (so it may die due to lack of photosynthesis), even more so after pruning. This tree is the opposite of a Tillia, it has almost no 'flush newgrowth', so you gotta be insanely careful about pruning, even more so, buy the right starting shape it's impossible to make a big chance to it.

Do you sell wound salve for newly pruned maple branches? I see to have reticulum wilt and have sawn off several branches about 1 inches across or less.
@MrMapleShow3 ай бұрын
Sorry I do not have any for sale. Tree Coat and Doc Farwells are both good brands to order

At what point should trees in pots get repotted? I have some small guys (1 gallon, 3 gallon) that will need larger pots sometime.
@MrMapleShow7 ай бұрын
We repot them after 2 years to 3 gallons
