Been soldering successfully for about 15yrs using a large lit magnifying lense on an arm but recently I really messed up a Wii HDMI mod and that's when my brother insisted on me trying out the microscope he had. Needless to say I now have the 10in IPS version made by TOMLOV and I couldn't be happier. The built in battery in it has been so nice to have so I don't have to have it on my desk at all times. Its setup the same way as yours with 2 cables but mine came with the wall wart as well. Also according to my documentation included with the microscope the short one for mine atleast is to go from screen to base and the other one is to the wall so you only need 1 USB outlet to charge.

That's a pretty good microscope for the quality for what it can do, although the price is a bit much especially if you're just going to use it as a microscope only, might as well go with a cheaper option, but if price goes down as time passes than it would be worth picking up later on.

The downside is a lot of those cheaper options are cheaper for good reasons, so it's a good bit of you get what you pay for.

Saved the microscope to my Amazon list for later, but I made sure to click on your affiliate link again now that I'm buying it 👌, also for the discount lol, thanks!

polarisers make a huge difference even for normal stereo microscopes, I personally prefer a ocular stereo scope (one that uses eye peices). That camera quality is fantasic, considering that these type of scopes are modified dashcams essentially

Your skin looks radiant compared to older videos my guy! I don’t mean that in a mean way or anything I’m just commenting from what I can see. Keep up whatever you’re doing brother! (Or just congrats if it’s natural 😂)

Much appreciated! Just have products that work well for me to clean and moisturize, then stick with it daily.

Personally bought a "high cloud" microscope from ali express, was here in under a week and is basically the Northridge Fix knock off. For my bench set-up I couldn't give it higher praise.

$230 Canadian, so about $170 US right now. Probably one of the best purchases so far for the hobby. @@MrMario2011

I have the slightly smaller version of that microscope. it was a game changer I DO honestly wish I had just purchased a really high resolution USB microscope, and a nice microscope arm (the type like a mic or camera mini boom arm), and just used a laptop or wall mounted tv near my work station.

I have a smaller cheaper scope. Do you find it hard to adjust to look at the screen while soldering versus just soldering without the scope? I feel like when I use the screen to solder, I feel like I can easily miss with my iron and hit the air instead of pressing down in right spot? Maybe it's because there is a small lag from the screen versus real-time, not sure. Asking for tips, thanks!
@MrMario2011
@MrMario2011 Жыл бұрын
I haven't experienced any lag time on my screens, but nope. It's an adjustment, but once you adjust to it you'll find soldering work much easier with a microscope.

One of the biggest drawback to these scopes for me is the mount. It's always the mount though with these budget setups. A decent articulating arm mount is super important for ergonomics. I wonder if it has an adapter for an arm 🤔 That said, the battery aspect would make this useful for field studies. I'd take this out to look at rocks and bugs and whatnot lol

The battery powered option was definitely an unexpected benefit, I don't see too many out there with that.

USB-C cables are expensive to make. This is one of the reasons why they are short in length. Not including a plug adapter at this price is unacceptable

At this price point I think it's reasonable to have a wall adapter and decent length cables.

I remember when I got my first microscope for soldering. It helped me soooo much. Brought my soldering and repair to a new level. Especially since I could see what I was doing very very clearly. Downside was my first microscope wasn't very good. And strained my eyes. My second one is crystal clear(amscope). Was definitely worth it. And I got a camera for it as well since it's trinocular. What model is your other microscope?

In my soldering journey ive been using actual microscopes which has worked pretty well but I wouldn't mind getting something I can plug right into a monitor. eventually I am thinking of getting one of those digital microscopes I can clamp onto my desk that kind of work like a microphone arm
@MrMario2011

A lot of people choose to just throw one of these into a microphone arm and it seems to work!

It sounds like you'll be going back to using the Andonstar 7 inch. Do you find that it's better to have a 10" screen or does the larger screen get in the way?@@MrMario2011

I would recommend people just get an actual proper trinocular microscope. It will be a bit more fiddling around to get setup and a bit more expensive but you won't have to worry about lack of depth perception. The only time I could see this being worthwhile is if you need it to be portable

Much more of an electronics industry problem, but the disturbing thing about this comment is that's now acceptable. The latest phone I got was $1100 and came with a cable and charger, so there's absolutely no excuse for a phone that's more expensive to not include one. Same with this microscope when plenty of cheaper devices ship with chargers. Nintendo proved with the New 3DS that you can ship a handheld product without a charger and people will still buy it, then phone companies followed suit.

To be honest I wouldn't trust a power brick from a chinese company. No name usb chargers tend to have a fire risk just due to the nature of cost cutting
