This train stops at Garden City, where I used to work about back in 2003.

I love these their so relaxing to watch! And as someone who rides LIRR every time I go to the city! And the LIRR is so much better Than driving through the city traffic

As per usual, an outstanding rail video!

Wow, this brought back memories for me! In the 1970s I'd take the LIRR from Atlantic Avenue to Hempstead to visit my folks in East Meadow (and later on back to Brooklyn). I always wondered about that single track out of Hempstead and past Country Life Press - trains had to take turns entering and departing the Hempstead station? Must've led to a few bottlenecks when trains were running late and one had to wait for the train running in the opposite direction to clear that stretch.

Grew up on this line, Nassau Boulevard was our station. We would take the train into the City to visit museums and grandparents! Great memories. thanks for all of these!

Same here. Back in the '70s they still ran freight. We'd run along the platform and grab a ladder and ride the train to the end of the platform. Crazy things kids do.

Wait, how did the train not derail @ 1:13? Isn't the switch in the wrong direction?
@derekharris49225 жыл бұрын
I saw that also.

Also, trains don't derail by trailing through and breaking switches. They do derail by picking switches in the facing direction. So even if this had been a switch that was broken by the train, it would only derail a train going the other way.

It's a spring swicth
@musicforaarre4 жыл бұрын
It must be a spring switch. If you go Jamaica bound, the flanges squeeze the rails against the springs. However, if you go into Hempstead, you would always end up going into the track to our left, apparently the default track at non busy time, unless there is an electric motor for CTC to electrically switch the track. I can't see the electric switch motor, but it would have to exist somewhere in order to get into the track that we pulled out of. When they want to save the dispatcher from switching the track over and over and over, and to save on the electric motor, they put in spring switch to always put trains over into the west side track. At non busy times, the dispatcher could leave the bloody switch alone, as it switches itself. They had a few of these on the CN Bala Subdivision north of Toronto, but I believe that they are going out of favor ? Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario

You haven’t done a ride to or from Huntington I don’t think

I have. Looking to do another run at better quality. Thinking sometime next week, either that or Port Washington.

Why don't they put in a flying junction between Floral Park and Queen's Village. That flat junction at Queen's Village is such a dud. Aarre Peltomaa. p.s. I guess it's money constraints. What else would it be.

Afraid not. I was at the Railroad Museum in Riverhead.

1:08 did he run through a switch or is it a variable spring style?
@MrMaster7674 жыл бұрын
Automatic Safety Switch. Snaps over when the train trails through it.

@Daniel C. No, spring switches snap back. Safety switches snap over but don't go back on their own.

Thanks for the video. Is is just me, or do many of these M3 front cars seem to have a flat wheel?
@waltstansfield75085 жыл бұрын
That's why there is the Wheel Truing facility at Richmond Hill.
