Good review, the lower ground clearance was noted in a release video I watched. Seems Honda felt people who by this bike don't take it off road. Lol! I was going to get this bike, but I was not sure if Honda Canada was going to carry it and the Triumph Trident caught my eye. Both bikes are a step up from my PCX 150.
@MrMegaPerez3 жыл бұрын
I also don’t like the fact about short suspension and ground clearance :/ You should still try to test the new NC ;)
@tridentyyz10313 жыл бұрын
@@MrMegaPerez I went into a Honda dealer a month and a half ago, and they had maybe 3 motorcycles. I think the lower ground clearance was to lower the seat height.
@stevebolton84713 жыл бұрын
They stopped making the lower sport model as the X outsold the sport by a large margin. So they lowered the X for more riders to be able to reach the ground
@theroadtripraven66943 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. To me, it just looks like a CB500X now. It lost the NC look completely. The lower ground clearance is also a killer for me. They just took the NC750S and gave it the X letter and some bodywork, this isn't really the same bike anymore.

Shame. 19” front wheel and good suspension and it’s exactly what I want. I don’t understand why other manufacturers don’t do a similar bike with the same storage system. They can put a more conventional engine in it, no need to copy the fuel sipping ways of this bike. Anyway I will keep riding my VStrom and hope that someone makes my unicorn bike one day

Good review. I have been looking at the Forza 750 as a better upgrade. If you can live with the scooter design it has a more comfortable seat, twin disc brakes, nicer swing arm, updated upside down forks and a TFT. Of course it is more expensive. I also like being able to move my feet around. From the video the new X display is still hard to read in some directions of sunlight. Of course you must have DCT with the Forza.

Nice Review, I had also one for a day and can tell you my feelings, compared to my 2014 NC750S. Maybe I should make a video of it too :D The seating position feels comfortable, the wider and higher handlebar changes the feeling a lot for me. BTW I am just 170, and the height is ok. However for a 170 or less beginner, or lighter persons the weight might get tricky when you try to maneuver it backwards or on slopes. The X feels easier to balance at slow speeds then my S, however when going faster around corners I feel I ride the S more by leaning while I get X more around the corners by pushing. My S feels more calmer at higher leaning angles then the X for me, but could be because I know mine much better. When i sat down at the most forward position and leaned forward, bended my arms I felt safer at higher speed, but that seating position did not feel intended for the X. Transmission - In the first minutes it felt quite frightening to loose some control by not having a clutch lever. After a few minutes I rode a narrow wet road in the forrest I really frightened the X might slip because of downshifting surprisingly. But after some more kilometers I started to trust the DCT. When changing gears it feels much smoother then what I do with my manual transmission, the propability of sliping is much less on the new x (the TCS, ABS etc would likely help too, but I didn want to provoke it). Moreover low speed maneuvers with DCT, and a little foot break assist, feel much more natural and easy when you do not have to operate the clutch yourself additionally. At home surprisingly, I tried multiple times, I was not able to turn around the X in in one turn in my yard, which is no problem for me with my S. Tried also manual shifting, but felt like i do not need it. I Preferably rode in standard thru towns and villages, and sport on twistier roads, feels quite good. DCT does surprisingly well what I want. I twist the wrist shortly and the NC makes a small leap to get around a obstancle without changing gears. While exiting a village I twist a little harder and it downshifts, for better acceleration, depending on the twist even 2 gears. That feels quite fast! Going downhill the DCT recognizes the situation quite good and uses engine for motor breaking - my automatic car needs some hints to do it. And finally the gear switching sound is just a klick, which you wont even hear over 50 kph. No hard pull in the drive chain. Beside that the vibrations felt slightly quiter, and the throttle much more gentle, precise then on my NC. That might be the throttle by wire feature. The seat - I have to confess I do not feel any difference compared to mine. But I am also very satisfied with the NCs standard seat. Before my but hurts my knees, hands, ellbows will hurt. The display - it shows more and is perfectly readable. However I do not like the layout somehow and for a new bike I would expect a TFT. Breaks - ok. Just like mine. However compared to more powerful bikes I tried, they need less hand power and will decelerate better then a NC. You get what you pay... Suspension - definitvely much better then on my 2014 NC. The bumps are absorbed better, while the whole bike seems to have better contact with the road. BUT: even the 2014 NC suspension feels much better then for example the one of a Yamaha MT07 :D Windshield - well that part is surprising for me. My NC750S has just a tiny screen and I usualy do not have any problems with wind. I just once noticed it more when riding multiple hours in my autumn gear and an additional rainproof overal over it. The wind protection on the X is slightly better then on my S, but the buffeting with that windshield is horrible for me. The noise at 90kph on the X sounds like 130kph on my S for me. That is for me much more problematic then the wind protection. It got calmer when I have ridden the X standing on the footpegs! Performance - the new one feels slightly more dynamic. In sportmode the new X will downshift 2 gears while overtaking, 60-100 feels faster... BUT I did some 0-100 acceleration some time ago with my 2014 manual NC and needed 5,96 seconds to get to 100kph on the GoPros GPS. My NC showed 97kph at that point in time, likely because the speedometer updates slightly slowly. I was able to hit 100kph on the GoPros GPS with the new NC in sport mode after 5,86 seconds, BUT its speedometer displayed already 110kph at that time!!! :) 200kph sound very optimistic to me. On a comfortable position my will indeed stop to accelerate shortly after 170kph. Laying as flat as possible, bending my ellbows and knees onwards as hard as i can i managed to reach 187kph, maybe downhill slightly more would be capable. But lets face it, the NC can be fast on twisty roads but it is not a speed demon. On the second day the DCT thrill flattened to me. It did just the job. I got mine back with fresh oil and it felt - well - just like my favourite pants. The manual gearbox with fresh oil ran smoothly and felt like a more active more entertaining ride. I felt like just the suspension and the more precise throttle work would improve my NC 750S.

I regret getting the DCT a little bit, I've found I have less slow control and can't rev the engine when filtering meaning I'm much more quiet when traveling between vehicles which makes me feel less safe.. at a time when I also need max slow control. Also whilst taking bends or roundabouts sometimes it's shifted gear in the middle of my lean which upsets stability. I could go on also about when traveling at a constant 40mph it doesn't seem happy either wants to rev to high or to low, and where your speed might drop off 3mph or so it'll want to swap gears making me feel the gearbox is being a bit busy unnecessary
@MrMegaPerez3 жыл бұрын
Wow this is interesting! Thanks for you feedback I think it will help people decide :) I noticed this in roundabouts :/ but I was hoping the DCT will learn that I don’t shift like that over time ….

Good to hear from an owner of the DCT. I have a manual one and wish I had bought the DCT! 😕 I have always thought, however, that I would probably always ride it in manual mode to avoid just the issues you point out...
@grapewater1233 жыл бұрын
@@ccooper8785 Yes but in reality manual mode isn't as good as a manual. So your better off where you are. I just bought it so will live with it, but after three years I'm definitely switching to manual again if I still have to commute using my bike. It's not that bad for leisurely rides but in my opinion it's 70 percent as good as a manual... Don't necessarily believe the hype most say about dct. It's not the one yet.
@grapewater1233 жыл бұрын
@@MrMegaPerez unfortunately not, you have to put it in manual mode when approaching roundabouts if you're wanting to take it at speed, once you've put it in manual, then you can select the gear you want for it to stay while making the turn. If you don't do it this way and shift down while still in auto (forced switch, without changing into manual mode) the bike tends to override your gear change you make in seconds. In fact.... thinking of it, it's a bit of a safety issue. As well as not being able to restart the DCT if you accidentally hit the kill switch at 70mph. (Not that I've ever done this but) ...The bike will need to come to a complete stop before allowing you to select neutral in order to restart the thing. Could be major fault if you're on the motorway Trust me you have the right bike if you've got the manual. I'd happily swap mine for the manual and never look back. It's not terrible, it's just not as good.

I agree it’s not the best bike for the tall guys :/ but some of the shorter riders will be happy about the new seat height :)
@233kosta2 жыл бұрын
It seems like black magic at first - lower seat height, better weight distribution, etc... Until it clicked. No magic. No tricks. No secret. They lowered it. The 6kg weight reduction is nothing to scoff at, but given that it weighs over 200kg, closer to 300kg with a rider, this sort of weight reduction just isn't something you feel much. It'd be like taking 2-3kg off my CB125F. I do that on a long trip just burning fuel. Not something easily noticed. Lowering THE WHOLE BIKE by 30mm on the other hand... Now the moment arm is appreciably shorter and THAT can make all the difference in the world feel-wise. Changes the whole inertial tensor about the lean axis, with and without rider. Assuming the wheels are the same, this should make it more stable AND more responsive to steering input.

No cruise control ( even though it's ride by wire ) shorter shocks' travel, not signigicantly better suspension function, same old swingarm, flimzier storage lock, clunkier drive-work.... And the "X" - why is it still there - in the name ? Now it's only a flat-road bike. Very pitty - Honda managed to screw up their best motorcycle concept 🤢 A dumb and stingy policy, that tries to push people towards their most expenive things - if quality is wanted. Well, I know - I speak for MANY like me, that can not have the Africa Twin - it is too heavy for us ( too high center of gravity...) - the old farts.... and the Goldwing is tooooo expensive + also only for flat roads. This - NC - I actually CAN lift up if it drops. So if Honda has a basic IQ - they must know their customers. OK - so I tried this new NC.... deliverd it back, and offcourse NOT going to buy it.
