@@eclmclm4868 Why would Brian Jones, who never wrote a song in his life, write the melody to a song about Keith Richards' girlfriend leaving him? ...When Keith had already written the chords and melody for dozens of hit Stones songs. Don't be so stupid. Keith Richards said of "Ruby Tuesday": "That's one of those things - some chick you've broken up with. And all you've got left is the piano and the guitar and a pair of panties. And it's goodbye you know. And so it just comes out of that. And after that you just build on it. It's one of those *songs* that are easiest to write because you're really right there and you really sort of mean it. And for a *songwriter* , hey break his heart and he'll come up with a good *song* ." All the band members agree in books and interviews that Richards wrote the *song* when his girlfriend, Linda Keith left him.

@Marti Grant Most definitely! Brian Jones' contribution to the early music of the Stones was incredible! He played most of those instruments and gave each song a unique sound that no one could. I mean who used a recorder on a song? Or a slide guitar. Or played the harmonica like him? He was truly amazing, however, you'll never hear any of the original Stones, with the exception of perhaps Bill Wyman, give the deceased man any credit where credit is long overdue! Bill Wyman was the only Stone that attended the funeral of Brian. How sad is that?

He was a self centered egomaniac who hung his financial success and fame on the genius songwriting of Mick and Keith. No one who worked with Brian liked him at all, he couldn't get along with anyone, he beat his girlfriend and fathered six children that he abandoned. He overindulged his weakness for drugs and booze to the detriment of everyone around him Sorry, Marti, that is not a "beautiful soul"...

“Brian was obsessed by his notion of a hybrid of Elizabethan lute music and Delta blues and would hold forth on the essential similarities between Elizabethan ballads and Robert Johnson,” Marianne explained. “Brian, in his sheepish way, very softly played a folkish, nursery-rhyme melody on the recorder. It was nothing more than a wispy tune, but it caught Keith’s attention. He cocked his head. ‘What’s that… thing you just played, man. On the recorder! Can ya do it again?’ Brian came back into focus and played the quavery, lilting tune again on the recorder. Perfectly. Beyond perfect! ‘Yeah, nice, man,’ said Keith and went over to the piano to bang it out.”--Udiscovermusic

This song by Keith may be one of the best things he ever wrote. He poured his heart and soul into every line and every note. He didn't even have to collaborate with Mick on this one. It is pure Richards. The phrasing of each line shows the complex sensitivity and sophistication Keith has always been capable of but seldom employed to this extent. Reminiscent of, As Tears Go By... Jones added a nice recorder accompaniment to Keith's masterpiece and that accompaniment may be Brian's biggest contribution the the band's sound he ever made..

Ronnie Wood is such a hack. A plus one at best. Forever a sideman, 2nd fiddle. And an embarrassing name dropper as well. There's absolutely no comparison between him and Brian.

Ron Wood has appeared on more number one hit records than Brian could shake a stick at. There is no comparison.

As a band, the Stones would naturally lean toward trashy material If it weren’t for their founder, Brian Jones and the inclusion of Mick Taylor, they’d have nothing but a catalogue of junky racist and drug celebrating songs like Some girls and Sister Morphine
