Ambrose Bierce a veteran of the Civil War, and writer of note, had a fascination with death, and PTSD as a result of his war experience. This short story is included in "The Works of Ambrose Bierce" where perhaps his most publicized short story, "An Incident at Owl Creek Bridge" is included. We meet the protagonist Peyton Farquahr with his neck in a noose on Owl Creek Bridge moments before his execution as a Confederate spy. We travel with him as he journeys back to his home, and his loved ones. Peyton Farquahr was a civilian who loved his family, and his state which had seceded from the union.
This video consists of the text of the story synchronized with the narration done by a professional narrator. Research has proven that learning and retention is greater when audio accompanies the text.

People dont realize you have to practice reading to be good at it.. u can not be a good reader unless u practice alot.. and when u do u get so good at it that u do it with zero effort and the story just goes in your mind. U literally down load it into your mind with little effort..it feels so cool when u get that good. U get good and nothing will be able to distract u from the story.. nothing. U will be so involved in it u cant even hear anything. All u can do is absorb what your reading..time stops

if someone knows the continuous process and what someone feels while hanging, you can see all the little hints towards the end of the story. I had to read this for an AMLIT class, and honestly I'm so glad I found this. 2x speed really helps too.

of course anyone could read these faster. but if you were interested in reading it yourself you wouldn't be here. plus, if this were read faster you wouldnt comprehend it as much, which would defeat the whole purpose once again.

Even the name "Peyton Farquhar" sounds like a garbled attempt at speech from the last gasps of a dying brain trying to cling to consciousness.

I only read roughly 200 words a minute by test. Comprehension is what is important. This, to be honest was fast at times and slow at times with regards to drama in the narrative. I have friends who read a book a day and they only barely grasp things they read. Do NOT ever go for reading speed. That is no sign of wisdom.
