When I moved to KL for my study, i literally cooked everyday. I could not even afford to buy nasi campur for an everyday lunch meal. They don't even taste as nice as in my town n for the price, not worth it. So i just made my own dish to college instead. But imagine for a single mother who has to cook everyday while having a minimum wage job, like a thousand and a half ringgit and lives in KL. I cannot imagine how the heck can they afford this. Economical rice is barely even economical in this day and age, I’d argue that they’re even less cost efficient than fast food. Now if you go into a mixed rice stall and get anything meat related that isn’t using minced meat, you’re not even getting any meat, you’re basically just gnawing on scraps on bones, and they still charge you what they charge for “meat”. And if you were to really get actual meat, like chicken thighs or breast, you’ll end up doubling your budget, at that point might as well take fast food, at least you get a burger with an actual piece of chicken.

Yet, I was always charged cheaper. Although 1 out of the 4 stores were consistent with their pricing for all of us, but similarly to your test. They also had their prices displayed for customers. It could be a better survey, if there is a standardisation. After the first person has taken, a photo should be distributed for the rest of the members to see to memories the portion. Some come with office attires, straight from the bed, casual from home and dress to a party. I find out about the portion in certain particular shop, regardless portion is -/+, the price is the same. That means you pay the same price for half a scoop and a full scoop. The next question is how to determine the full scoop or how many pieces to maximise on the price paid for.

I've gotten unfair results before when I went out to a mamak with a girl classmate. Hers was RM7, and mine was RM8.90 for the same thing. So I do think some shops really do charge girls less, especially if the one stating the price is a guy. Another case was when I went to some Chinese restaurant along with a Chinese guy and an Indian guy. The Chinese guy got it like RM2 cheaper, and the Indian was charged the most. Since we came late to the restaurant, pretty much all of us took the same lauk. This might not be scientific enough tho, and I think have to do the same test where the restaurant owner is the one scooping all the items for your mixed rice (should be same portion). If still different, idk what to say la.
