Personally I believe that in real life the cables of a bridge are not in parabola from, but according to Euler in a hyperbolic function the coshx. f (x)=cosh(x)=(e^x+e^-x)/2.

why did you use the 200 and 100 pls explain further, i get it because the variable is x and y which fits the 200 and 100 but what i don't understand is the relation between (200, 100) and (0,10)

+YAHOO y is going to represent the height, while x represents the distance from the middle. "the cables are at a height of 10 feet midway between the curves" - put the middle of the towers at the origin so that the x-coordinate is 0 and then the coordinate is (0,10). This makes it easier to work with. Since the towers are 400 feet apart, half way between them is 200, so from the middle to the right/left side is 200 feet. The 100 comes from the statement, "the towers are 100 feet high." Does this help?
