Happy 2025 I hope you'll have a splendid year may all your dreams come true ! While I was introduced to Gregg Araki's Teen Apocalypse trilogy not too long after all the films were released I also saw Totally F****d up last. I concur that even this early performance made it obvious that James Duval was going places artistically. By his own admission not always the best places but hey not every movie is gonna be a hit. Decades later I'm still filled with glee when I see Jimmy's name pop up on screen. Not every actor gets that reaction I'd wager. Once again a very fine patreon review I always learn so much when you give your thoughts on a film I already enjoyed to begin with. Even though the reviews for Nosferatu differ widely I will check it out. This might not be Robert Eggers best film it will still be better than much of the drek that gets released on a regular basis. Questions: 1 What's your favourite James Duval performance? 2 Are you worried at all now that LG announced they will no longer be making Blu Ray players? 3 Should Mr Eggers do another remake of a classic next or should he return to making his own artistic projects? Till next week God willing take care.

I had the same reaction as you to Nosferatu. I wanted to love it but the generic possession stuff took me way out of it. Congrats on 400.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall if you've gone through and reviewed any of the Shout Factory Shaw brother box sets. I believe they're on volume four now as well.

I'm looking forward to being able to update my old Hong Kong dvd of Rampo Noir. Underrated film, imho. I don't know if you know that the lead actor in Sato's segment, Ryuhei Matsuda, is the son of Japanese acting legend Yusaku Matsuda (The Beast to Die, Game Trilogy, A Homansu etc). The recurrence of poison as a plot point in Chor Yuen's films is probably down to the fact that a lot of them are based on novels by the writer Gu Long, a prolific wu-xia author who tended to recycle ideas in his stories. Cheerleaders Wild Weekend sounds a bit like the Nikkatsu "classic" White Rose Campus: Everyone Gets R-ped. Though I'm guessing it's a bit less offensive! Happy new year to you!

I'll definitely be picking up Cheerleaders Wild Weekend in the future. I always thought it was odd that they marketed the film as a generic teensploitation-sex comedy when the actual film we get is far more interesting, I also prefer its alternate title "The Great American Girl Robbery." It's too bad Kristine DeBelle didn't continue making exploitation movies and genre fare because she has a unique screen presence. She's in Tag: The Assassination Game which I've never seen, but Synapse is currently working on the blu-ray release for it. Her only other cult/grindhouse appearance was her debut role in Alice In Wonderland The X-Rated Musical which I've also never seen. I'm not sure how many movies mixed horror tropes with cheerleader movies in the 70s but Cheerleaders Wild Weekend and Satan's Cheerleaders always get wholehearted recommendations from me!

Absolutely loved Nosferatu, those who are bashing it are clearly from The Tik Tok generation who went into this thinking it was going to be an action-packed vampire movie. 100% sure they don't even know the original film from the twenties even exists

Have you tested all of the VHS tapes to make sure they all play correctly and aren't damaged?

Nice reviews. My favorite Q.T film has always been Jackie Brown... However, I can't say that Jackie Brown is "The #1 Best Q.T film!" The films do get better as they go on!

Happy New Year! Have you seen Gregg Araki's Splendor? That was really good, too. And it was a deviation from the type of films that Araki was known for at the time. It's basically a threesome comedy but with an Araki edge. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

No, you said "Silver" instead of "Sliver". The film's called Sliver. :D

I didn't care for the invisible man remake either. hollow man was a better invisible man remake. A descent into madness is a far better story than a abusive prick becoming a invisible abusive prick. I seen nesfaratu on opening night and I walked out felling the same way I felt with every other one of Egger's movies. I didn't like it as much as I was hoping to but rewatching the witch, lighthouse and Norseman. I ended up liking it a lot more the second time around. I don't know if it's just I lowered my expectations or what but I have a feeling that's for Nosferatu will grow on me as well

I have to say that I prefer the original Inglorious Bzstards to Tarantino's remake in name only. It was nice to see Bo Svenson again and you , me and your other viewers may have been the only people to get the Hugo Stiglitz reference. Eli Roth is from my neck of the woods so I got the Teddy Ballgame reference (one of many nicknames for Red Sox legend Ted Williams, who had to leave the Sox to fight in World War II and, later, Korea. If he stayed his numbers would have been insane. He retired in 1960 and he's the last hitter with a 400 batting average). I also got the Lansdowne Street reference because that's where the park is as well as a bunch of nightclubs. My problem with the movie was lack of plot. I liked the original plot of army criminals trying to get to the Swiss border to avoid execution. I also watched Speak No Evil for the first time and liked it. I kept waiting for James McAvoy to snap. For z good looking guy, McAvoy likes to mess with his looks to play villains. He made my skin crawl. You do have to suspend disbelief that a family would stay at another family's place without knowing them completely. Especially with a weirdo like McAvoy's character. I also watched The Black Cab. I liked this one a lot as well. They got the ghost story right by showing the ghost. The driver looked like Nick Frost playing Walter Sobchack from The Big Lebowski. I kept thinking about how I could have pulverized the driver. But, in a state of fear, who knows?

You’re right. The best at building suspense and keeping us captivated(Tarantino.) I would have thought the bar scene was 10-15 mins at most.
