I owned a Salsa Beargrease, but two seasons ago I bought an ARI Kings Peak. Checks all the boxes! I ride our snow trails in the winter on 5 inch tires and in the spring I mount it up with an Old Man Mountain rear rack and 3 inch tires to bikepack until late fall. An awsome ride!

Panorama Chic Choc 🤌 Gen 2 on sale and has some amazing geo for 26” expedition. New Gen 3 looks a little more focused on 27.5, slightly slacker etc, both very versatile bikes very much geared to Bikepackering with tones of bosses . threaded BB, with carful attention to frame drainage Awsome bikes

Good timing of this video. It’s national fat bike day today. You missed the Rocky Mountain Blizzard that meets all your criteria I think. Where is the riding area in your opening shots. 🤘🏾

The portage handle on the Corvus is the piece that goes from the chain stay to the seat stay on the drive side. I have a Corvus Crow Pass with the same portage handle, it's a lifesaver when the bike is fully loaded.

Thanks so much for clarifying that. 👍 Makes total sense! I was mindlessly assuming it would be something like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHukfmOKd5t5mKc - ride on!

Granted, I don't do bike packing/expedition riding, but I do love my Borealis. Had some great customer service from them too. I tried the Crestone and the Flume, and loved the Flume frame more. So, in the fall of 2019, ordered my Flume, GX build and Lauf fork. At the time, the Lauf was a $450 upgrade and do not regret the upgrade. Yesterday was chatting with three others while out for a GFBD ride and probably helped Lauf sell one, maybe two Carbonaras after they tried my bike. HA! Enjoy your content - Happy Trails!

Great info and video, as usual! However, I am curious to hear your take on the Borealis Flume. I bought one in July 2023 and don't see too many around. I have mine process of being built up for bike packing and have discovered that they didn't think ahead with a few minor things, but otherwise its a great bike so far. I wanted a fat bike for years and couldn't beat it at a 2nd hand price of 750 for a factory spec'd up bike that was 2500 less than a year before I bought it. Guy was a railroad insurance adjuster and gave it up on a crazy good deal.

Good question. No, you don’t have to be tubeless to add studs. They sit in a little “pocket” and don’t penetrate through the tire or get anywhere near the tube :) Ride on!

Tubeless and ultra low pressure winter riding are a terrible mix! After too many flats and aggravation when switching to/from studded fat tires, I said fuck tubeless forever on the fatbike and never looked back. Never had to push the bike back to the car since!
