They're all a mystery to me except #5. It's for cutting gauge glass used on boiler water level gauges. Thanks for sharing Sara and keeping Lyle primed with new tools. 🙂

Hi Lyle, #4 is a torque wrench for auto batteries with side terminals.
We used to use #5 for cutting sight glass tubes for boilers and other pressure tanks.
@dannyl25982 жыл бұрын
Wow! The only one that I have a guess about is number 5. I'd say it's for cutting glass tubes like you would use in a science lab, especially since the last thing Sara sent you was a very nice set of cork borer's.

As others have said, #3 is an automatic wire (or, more likely, cable) stripper. Given that the jaws look rather rounded on the inside, and there's what looks like a cutting notch just behind the jaws, I'd guess that it's for multi-conductor telephone or alarm cable, or maybe for early Cat3 cable.
@kawonnowak2 жыл бұрын
#3 Looks like something designed to cut and separate the insulating sleeve on a cable. #5 appears to have a glass cutting head so I'm assuming that it could be used to cut glass or ceramic rods.

I had at first thought of o-rings, but yeah I concur. Looks like a older version of a modern wire stripper. Thoe ones with the stripping function on the top end.

#4 I'm guessing is a simple torque wrench. Given the direction of the bend in the rod, it would release pressure on the "keeper" as you operate the tool in a clockwise direction. I'm enjoying these videos too. Cheers 🤙

1) really hard to say without missing piece 2) some kind of punch down or marking tool? 3) really specialized wire stripper. Maybe for coax cable? 4) unknown kind of wrench. Looks automotive/ vehicular in application. 5) something for scoring glass tubes

James D. #1 is a tool for impressioning keys for locks. Use a blank key and prepare it with a pippin file. By putting slight pressure on the key blank in the lock you can see impressions on the key blank as where to file the blank. No marks no filing
@johncooper46372 жыл бұрын
Number 3 looks like it is a cable stripper of some kind. Number 5 is easy although I've always used a file to cut glass tubing. This is probably for larger diameters. I recognized #2 but I could not remember what it was until somebody below had the answer. It is an adjustable lead bender for resistors and such. The reason for the long prongs was to put them in the through holes on the electronics board (that is why they have such fine points) so that the bends would come out correctly. The clamps held the resistor while bending. I Googled lead bender and found a picture of an even fancier one. I have never seen number 1 and cannot figure it out. Lyle, keep this up. I'm amazed at the stuff you come up with.

I guessed #5 was for glass tube and see my guess confirmed below. Now #3 reminds me of a device i my dad's tool drawer in his radio repair shop. He rarely used the tool but I loved playing with it. It was for stripping wires and was the most complicated device I could image as a young boy. So I am guess this rather simple tool is for something similar. And I was the guy at the rally with the HUGE sign screaming, KEEP THE WHAT IS IT GOING.
@swp4662 жыл бұрын
Great selection of tools this time around. The only one that I recognize is #4 -- it's a torque limiting wrench. A bolt/nut is tightened until the loop in the handle springs closed and the two sides touch. The strap is there to prevent the tool from spreading when breaking torque to remove the bolt/nut.
@Mad-productions.Jay.2 жыл бұрын
Yea I was thinking that plus i think it was probably used for installing chrome trim nuts specifically I could be wrong tho.
@ronwong70302 жыл бұрын
This is for torquing and removing the General Motors battery side battery terminal attaching bolts. The loop bends when tightening to limit torque but the clip negates the loop deformation to loosen the bolt.

I own one of the "red handle Pliers tools" its for stripping short electric wires inside an wall outlet box, be sure NO live power is in the box as they are not insulated enough even if handles wrapped with thick rubber tape its like playing the "Operation game" but with AC house current, it works very well with non-live single strand 16-10ga wires but was over $35 new in 1980 and is for new construction or renovation of residential homes where standard wire strippers cant reach wires. the long mystery tool is for cutting boiler sight-glass tubes to length from inside, I own one that does it from outside with a short chain of glass cutters that work like a Chain wrench spun around tube while holding pressure with pliers handle to score glass then you either use internal tool and tap its knocker or heat tube over candle to crack glass then sand edge with emery cloth to take sharp edge off before installing. heat expands glass causing it to crack at scores
