My uncle made this puzzle himself some 40+ years ago and it's still in the living room at my grandma's house (unfortunately couple of the pieces are missing). I never asked where he got the idea, but I remember playing with it as a kid (we made the missing pieces from cardboard).
@tinchote7 жыл бұрын
I cannot say about 40, but I knew this puzzle 34 years ago. I played it on paper, and I also wrote a short BASIC program to play it. In later years, I've had both windows and Android versions.

I also remember it from my childhood. I had a plastic one where the "sun" piece contained sweets that you could only access if you managed to get it to the bottom. I think that the pieces had interlocking ridges on the sides so you couldn't cheat by removing them arbitrarily as in this one.

I just made a practice version using the Draw function in Microsoft Word. Just had to turn on Snap to Grid to keep the pieces "on track".

Don't need a hammer. This puzzle doesn't have Anti-Cheat program installed. So you can just "hack" the game and remove pieces. Therefore, an axe is required.

I remember this puzzle from my childhood! My grandparents had all kinds of puzzles and games in their house, and I used to spend all of my time there playing with everything I could get my hands on. Looking back, I'm realizing most of the games were educational or helped development of coordination/reasoning, but at the time they were pure fun. Thank you for featuring this puzzle on your channel, it brought back some warm memories.

exactly as they are both sliding puzzles, though I did find the car puzzle more visually pleasing then the dots. on a frame. leads to more challenges without boredom. I have most of the card sets- this setting sun is more closely related to the "safari" themed sliding puzzles, also by think fun.

When you look straight down at the puzzle it's an interesting example of orthographic perspective. the circles on the blocks look boot protruded and recessed at the same time.

The best general strategy with this type of puzzle is to get the smaller pieces next to the piece you want to move so that they can 'flow' around the object piece like a thin fluid.

It looks a lot like Klotsky(?) and old Polish game adapted for Windows, some decades ago. That game had a lot of different levels/initial configurations. Some toy company sold the game as 'traffic controller', shaping the pieces as cars, trucks and buses. In all cases the objective was the same, remove the 'master' piece from the frame...

I count 112 moves in the included solution - I can do it in 100 moves. I had this puzzle as an old PC program, and I solved it years ago. Of course I couldn't remember my solution, when I bought this very nice wooden version, following one of the links in your description (by the way, it arrived surprisingly quickly). But after a little struggle I found it again, and then - only then - did I check the “official” solution. To my surprise I found that my solution has fewer moves and is, I think, a little more elegant. But now that I think of it, I seem to remember that the PC app gave the fewest possible number of moves as ninety-something (94 maybe?), and eventually I did work it out back then, but I no longer remember how.
@skakdosmer6 жыл бұрын

This classic puzzle may be the inspiration behind a computer game called "Unblock Me," which has a very similar combination of sliding pieces and the goal of sliding one piece out through the bottom. The game is free* (in app ads), and comes with about 150 variations grouped by difficulty. By purchasing the app, the user can get more collections of variations. With each puzzle, the game counts the player's moves and when the player solves the variation, the game shows that count and the least number of moves necessary to solve the solution, after which the user may replay the variation, attempting to solve it in that minimum number of necessary moves. As well, if one grows frustrated, many of the perfect solutions are available free online by a general search (Yahoo!, Google, etc.) of "Unblock Me" and the variation number. I found the game fun enough to play all the free variations, frustrating enough to search for solutions, but not so really great as to buy additional variations, though the price was quite tempting. Thanks for showing us how classic this puzzle is. I do so enjoy all your posts.
