love the Impala, But The winner for me is the Marauder. You can Fake an SS all day long. And unless you know what your looking for you can easily get swindled into buying a dressed up 9C1. The Marauder on the other hand you can't Fake. It doesn't matter if you spend so much money converting a Vic or a Marquis into a 100% clone that you could have just bought a real one, The Vin doesn't lie. For 2003 8th position in the Vin is a "V" for the DOHC 4.6, The Body code for 2003 is shared with the Grand Marquis LS. For 2004, the Marauder got it's own body code M79, and still had the "V" designation in the Vin. The Vin on the Impala SS has the letter "P" in the 8th position for the LT1. But the Caprice also came with this engine. The car was never body coded and shares the code with a Caprice. The Trunk Tag with all the options is what you are looking for, code WX3 if I remember. Sadly this can be reproduced, I have seen a few fakes in the past. Most Fakes don't even have the decal. Another thing to look for is the tire info on the door. if the tag doesn't read 17s it's a Caprice. Both cars are awesome. The Impala saw more success because the level of performance it gave for the era it was in was great. The Marauder was over priced, and the big wigs at Mercury kept the developers from doing what they really wanted.
@lanewarriorillridez37394 жыл бұрын
I agree because Ford being a family owned car company were being too fucking conservative. Just like the Lincoln Mark 8 the developers were gonna make both of them and the Maruader convertibles with the same Eaton M112 superchargers like the Terminator Cobra eventually gotten and the assholes in charge halted it all and killed these cars production on top of that.

This is a trip. I remember asking myself the same question 20 years ago. I had a Crown Vic ( Police interceptor ) in 2009 I bought a 94 impala. Parts are easier or were easier to get & I certainly cannot complain. SS all day & the impala has never failed me. The black pearl lives on 💯🇺🇸🔝

I bought my 96 SS brand new. It now has 316,000 miles. The engine, trans and rear end are new. I don't commute any more so it is mostly a garage queen. We use it for hauling our grandkids around. (My other car is a 2003 C5 Corvette). The Impala is in great shape except the paint. I'll be getting it painted this summer. That being said, I am impressed with the Marauder's looks and interior.
@lesterscrugs22724 жыл бұрын
Very good comparison. The 0-60 time being faster in the impala despite its 3.08 rear gear and less power vs the more power and 3.55 gears in the Merc probably came down to where the power is made. Impala has its torque down low while the merc has it up fairly high in the power band. Both are incredibly enjoyable vehicles to own and drive.
@lanewarriorillridez37394 жыл бұрын
The issue with ALL of them naturally aspirated 32 valve DOHC 4.6 engines is that they don't really respond till 3000 rpms, which is why the 16 valve SOHC 4.6 engines were known to be more torquey and responsive in the early rpms. The OHV 5.7 LT1 Impala will not make you wait to unleash 345lb-ft of torque!
@TrailingSkies274 жыл бұрын
I owned the Impala for 5 years. I graduated to the 2003 Marauder. I love both cars. Absolutely. Plenty of experience in both, but I'd take the Marauder 10 out of 10 times. Too many reasons to list. I'm a Chevy man at heart, but the Marauder is simply the better vehicle.

I’ve owned every year impala Ss of the 90’s 94,95,96. The fastest one stock felt like the 94. Still sexy to look at because they’re so sparse on the street. And when it rolls up it looks to sinister. I wish the interiors were nicer. Best ride was the mercury i owned recently. It did feel anemic compared to the SS. The ride was so much better. The yard where they had them was broken into multiple times. Beautiful cars. I'm a chevy guy so there's a 96 ss in the garage. Owned a 95 buick wagon and if I had it my way I would of kept the wagon and did a paint/wheel swap instead. An idea- what if the Marauder packed a rugged-built, SOHC 4.6 & transmission, but supercharged? Rugged-built, as in toughened up internally to often handle max boost and last 100s of thousands of miles just like the regular sohc 4.6. 320-350 horsepower and 400 lb. ft. of torque. Well, we can do this with 5-7k, ourselves, as in a Supercharger "kit". Toughening up the engine & transmission, however needed, maybe another $4-5k?

I chose an 03 Marauder over the 94-96 Impala a few years back. Since I have been trying to talk my neighbor out of his 96 Impala SS and he said he'd trade me straight up but I think I'll stick with my black on black panther Lol... #StaySafe & #StayBlessed

The fact you can compare these two cars whereas they are years apart in technology and chevy still wins speaks volumes.

5:40 Marauder maxed out from Ford? Dude, if you are going to make a video. Tell the truth. You increase hp the same on both engines. Install a hotter cam in the ss and install hotter camS in the Ford. I will say the ss has more room to work with because it's only making 75 hp per cuin.

Finally someone with knowledge on the basic principles of engine optimization and how it applies to ALL engines. Cams, longtubes, x-pipe, catback, throttle body, CAI, elevated RPMs and a tune works wonders on the modular V8s. Usually yields 360 - 380 rwhp depending on application (99/01 Cobra, Mach). Ported heads + hotter cams allow you to take advantage of the DOHC's ability for high RPM power by raising redline to 7500 + where the smaller motor make 420ish or more whp NA. Elevate the compression ratio and add 15 to 20hp...throw a windage tray, UD pullies and elec H2O pump and rev it even higher and you will have some more power (in any engine).

That Testkid Block of that modular 4.6 has more potential of taking high horsepower levels than that LT1 or LS1 pushrods. The strongest pushrods from that era were them Chrysler Corporation built 5.9 and 5.2 liter Magnums v8s.

I'd trade my second Impala SS for a Marauder. How cool would that be?

ok,so can you make a video clearing up the mystery of the gold badging on panther sedans? they apparently do it on more than 1 trim,ive only seen it on the mercurys but i hear town cars have them too,wikipedia and google are no help to me and the only lead i have is it came from Miami,if you could make a video detailing trim levels and the source of the gold badging...thatd be pretty cool,tbh its an honest mystery
