I own this car and I owned the supercharged version in 2005 when they first came out. I am kind of a super-fan of the cobalt SS. Alot of ppl miss the bigger points of these...there were only 3200ish turbo cobalt coupes even produced for the us market with a few hundred more made for Canada, they are very rare! the design is largely based on the Saturn Ion Redline and the turbo ecotec is actually from Opel, a european GM partner. Also the dealership offered a GM Stage 1 engine upgrade that basically tuned it to get 290 HP and 340 Lbs Tq UNDER WARRANTY!! the tune also allowed the computer to sense bolt ons and auto configure itself (not recommended). The car represents the end of an era as well, the last of the tuners without a bunch of screens, a car you can tune and work on yourself. The parts for these are cheap and the engine is very dependable plus it handles like a surgical blade. Stock it came with alcanterra trim on the seats, 18" forged aluminum rims and a very good pioneer sound system that still sounds great today. This was the first vehicle under 60K with Launch Control and it has no-lift-shift!! I look at the Cobalt as a Mini-Vette, it has many design cues from corvettes like the signature round tail-lights (which also remind the tuner fans of a R-32 Skyline) and the split 5 spoke rims that were also specific to corvettes of the time, and most notably this vehicle was from the "GM Perfomance Division" which I think was shut down in 2010(?) regardless, this is the division of GM that was responsible for all corvette development, so basically I see a 4-cylinder turbocharged vette, which sounds ridiculous but look at what camaros and mustangs have today...an option for the turbo-4. The SRT-4 and the Cobalt SS were both at the beginning and the end of an era for tuners and I think these were grossly under-rated especially considering my fully loaded '08 SS TC originally sold for under $24k. Imagine if the new Civic Type-R was only about $28K today with every option...thats what a Cobalt SS was.

How would you rate an 07 cobalt SS supercharged. $1500 with a misfire on cylinder4.
@TheNykademos3 жыл бұрын
@@makeaway4554 If you have an '07 sorry to tell you but those were not offered with forced induction, they have some body cues of the other years but the supercharged was only 05-06 and the turbo was 08-10. I believe you have the SS sport, which will never gain value. 2.4 liter though so its a bigger 4 cyl than some. Did you add a supercharger? Or did you just buy this and the guy told you it was supercharged?
@TheNykademos3 жыл бұрын
@@makeaway4554 Just looked it up and I'm mistaken, They did make supercharged '07s. Fix it, keep it. the instant torque on the supercharged is great, Ive been able to do 60mph burnouts with a GM stage 2 kit. There are 2 versions of the cloyes timing kit. One made in china and one made in the USA. Unfortunately mine probably got the one made in China. Normally when my cars break I sell them right then and there. This one I haven't. I've been holding out to buy an engine but no one bought them on the west coast, however just recently I found out the Saab 9-3 has the same block so I'm gonna grab one of those and buy a used head and hopefully it'll be running again. Yes the ecotec engine is great platform to build because of a few reasons. 1. Parts are cheap either new , used , or aftermarket. 2. Since the ecotec engine came in multiple cars finding say a Chevy cobalt, Pontiac g5, or a Saturn Ion for a cheap price is extremely easy. 3 . These engines are easily modded along with a ton of oem parts being interchangeable. So for example you can buy say a regular 2.2 or 2.4 Cobalt and take the M62 supercharger from the SS model and swap it on to the 2.2 or 2.4 N/A models or do the same with to the G5 or N/A Saturn Ion and even the HHR lol. Basically the possibilities with the ecotec platform if you do the research is endless. Honda Civic's started out the same wzy ib the early 90s once people realized you could swap different Honda engines into the EkG Honda Civic.

Make sure maintenance has been done and the previous owner put the right mods. The sc variant DID NOT come with the lsd, so you'll need to start there. I'm payed the price, don't make my mistake.
