Some fun facts: 1. Mark Jansen (the guitarist and male vocalist) won't freak out when Simone gets closer to him, because they were in a relationship for some time. Now they're just bandmates^^ 2. Marc was also a co-founder of After Forever, therefore an ex bandmate of Floor (not related though) before founding Epica. Now he has another side project called 'Mayan' with two female singers, one of them being his partner Laura Macrí. 3. The band itself is named after an album by Kamelot, because Simons and Jansen are huge fans of this band. Now, for some years, Simone and her long-term partner Oliver Palotai (the keyboardist of Kamelot) are married and have a son.

Simone is pronounced more along the lines of Simona. In English we're always use to leaving off that last 'e', but in her name it's accented. Anyways, I love this band so damn much. They're been a favorite of mine since I first heard them almost 15 years ago. I was lucky enough to have some friends in the Netherlands introduce me to this when it was still new. Such a diverse mix of music.

Oh my god! I'm still salty the tickets were already sold out when I wanted to buy some for my fiancé and I (it was 5 years ago, I know, but still). They sold out in like just a few days... And yes, the Ancienne Belgique is a really cool venue (and what's funny is that it's in the center of Brussels, near the Grand-Place and all that... I don't think I've ever seen a concert hall that was in the center of a city like that lol). There isn't that much space but it's really cool because it's more intimate. I prefer it to the bigger venues in the country (Forest Nationale or the Lotto Arena in Antwerp). Anyway. I freaking love The Essence of Silence. I have to admit that Simone has got better control over the song and the high notes nowadays. She cut the last one quite short in this one but it's not the case anymore. And yes, the whole band is awesome! (and freaking yes to all of you suggesting Kamelot - Elizabeth I, II & III live)
