People complain about the aging of minoxidil. Balding will age you more, and to combat this, you have three options moisturizer, retinoids, or botox. Look at Ronaldo and other male celebrities. They are getting work multiple procedures done as they age. Dark circles/eye bags are almost inevitable as you age. Social media just gives you a skewed view with filters.

When I increased my Minoxidil from 1.25mg to 2.5mg I definitely experienced puffiness under my eyes. I decided to go back down to 1.25mg and it’s improved but not completely gone. Right now I’m contemplating stopping all together. And on a side note, I used topical minoxidil for 3 months, with amazing results. Unfortunately, after 3 months, I started to get serious skin irritation and had to stop.

​​@@alonsomelojunior3887always start on the lower dose and if you get positive results then great, keep going and when results tend to slow or plateau then increase by small increment for a few months and go again and then you will find a dosage where you will keep seeing results on a lower dose. But remember we humans also suffer seasonal hairloss as in the winter my hair seems thinner or weaker but in the sun in summer. It's thicker, and seems to grow more. But also a great idea to shower and wash scalp and hair with cool to cold water and I see much better results in hair and scalp condition better blood flow etc

Rodney Sinclair, the doc who started the oral minoxidil trend, said he sees oral minoxidil stop the progression of hair loss in over 90% of people. I am personally on 5 mg and had a huge shed in the first few weeks but now I shed almost zero hair. The max amount of hairs I see in the shower are maybe 1-3. Also a long time dutasteride user but definitely saw more shedding using dut as a mono therapy, closer to 10-20 hairs before adding oral minoxidil.

I've been on oral minox 2.5mg for 5 months. No side effects to speak of until now, over the last couple weeks I'm seeing some water retention in my ankles. Really surprised this side effect is only showing now, considering I've been on it for 5 months. Gonna stop the minox for a while to see if it clears up the water retention. Ito hair, it's been good, seen a slight overall thickening of hair.

Hey Rolandos. I'm unable to take finasteride due to the sides after many attempts. I've been on 5mg of oral minoxidil (2.5mg for the first three months) for about 9 months and it has been a game changer for me. Hair and beard is much thicker and hair in general feels much fuller. You will continue to lose hair without a DHT blocker. You can try topical finasteride if you're prone to side effects, but it is possible those side effects are just nocebo because many anecdotal reports on finasteride side effects were not witnessed in the proscar (5mg finasteride for prostate) studies. Either way, without a DHT blocker you're just delaying it but not stopping it.

Agreed! After 10,000 hair transplant please save your remaining donor hair for the long term future. In relative terms try and wait 5-10 years for another transplant since life is long and your can't keep doing transplant every 2 years

Hello, I've been using 0.5 dutasteride a day for 1 year, I got the expected effect all over my hair, even in my crown area, new hair appeared, but I did not get the effects I expected in my front temple area. My question is, if I add 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil a day and continue on my way with dutasteride and quit oral minoxidil after 2 years, if I continue with dutasteride continuously, will the hair grown by oral minoxidil fall out? This is the most important question for me because of the fear of oral minoxidil, I would be very grateful if you could answer me.

I was not expecting to see any result until after 6 month or non at that I though it was just a scam. I am so happy with the result. I don't get it how finasteride and minoxidil is this safe to take for a long time since it comes with serious warnings for prostate cancers , myocardial effusion and other problems . 100%, I realised creatine was speeding up my hair loss before I even checked online that it increases DHT, got off it and the hair loss slowed down. Creatine is useless, who cares about a couple extra reps in the gym, you can build a great physique without it

Sorry, there is not enough evidence to support this claim. There are only a few studies looking into that and mostly they show no alterations in hormone profile. So, my advice for you is that you should stop spreading bs and misinformation.

That's absloute bs, you're mistaking creatine for protein. And even protein doesn't inherently "cause" hair loss, its just that working out in general boosts testosterone levels and thereby dht levels which is presumably the main culprit in male pattern baldness

I’ve always have a double cowlick on the back of my head the way my hair grows, it creates that same sparse area in the back as yours. When it’s long you the hair grows and it’s lays right and covers the sparser area

Been prescribed OM by my hairtransplant surgeon. He Said topical might not be a good fit for me because i have very oily skin and thick skin on my scalp in tern i might not respond so well to it and the oral is better. However my blood pressure is on the higher side usualy 140/90 and i do suffer with headaches allot so i been put off using it. @@MrRolandasI think it’s from oral minoxidil. Or maybe just weight gain. 5mg oral minoxidil made my eyelids got bloated and my nose kind of puffy. I cut it in half and it’s slightly better. I’m trying out for a month on 2.5mg. Let’s see if it brings the swelling down. Slightly worried hearing that it would have adverse side effect. Ive been on oral minoxidil for about a year plus. Coming two years. Next mth I’m gonna cut it down to 1.25mg let’s see if it can retain the hair and no more swelling.

Hi Rolandas. Five years ago I’ve had an transplant for the front of my hairline, about 2500-3000 grafts. Afterwards no one told me about finasteride and minoxidil. Over a year ago I’ve noticed that my overall scalp was really thinning. After some differing things I’ve begon researching myself and 2/3 weeks ago I’ve begon with 1mg finasteride and 2.5mg minoxidil, in addition to some other natural supplies. But I’m really shedding like crazy. Every time I stroke my hair there will be hairs falling out. After showers it’s even more crazy, easily 200-300 hairs do fall out and that spooks me. I know that this is going to be an long term project with the meds, and most of the time I can calm myself. But do you have any advice?

It's insane that you had a hair transplant before trying medications, and just as insane that your surgeon didn't tell you about it. It's not uncommon for people to experience shedding when beginning finasteride and minoxidil, both can cause it. You're going to have to stick with it for 6 months as a minimum but ideally a year to really make an assessment to whether or not it's working. If you're able to get dutasteride, then that is more effective than finasteride but it does have a higher rate of side effects, but you might be willing to take that risk. You should add Nizoral once a week if you're not already, and you could try hair fibers for now to cover up the thinning while you wait for the shed to hopefully stop.

​@92rednotch that is true but when moved into the DHT affected zones on you head if your not using a DHT blocker like oral or topical finasteride DHT in the new affected area will thin the transplanted hair to a degree .It happened to me .I probably was one of the first few thousand people in the mid 90's to get the early FUT transplant in the states from a clinic named Nuhart clinics .I had 4 surgeries .looked great for the first 13 years .mind you I was 25ish when I did it and at the time topical minoxidil was told to enhance the results til grew in after the plugs shed ,but could stop when I noticed the new growth coming in and I did thinking it was bullet proof .wrong by the time I was in my late 40's it took on the appearance of diffuse thinning and showing the round circle plugs .wasn't til 2020 my new journey of restoring it by getting stem cell injections made me vigilant in using finasteride/ dutasteride, oral and topical minoxidil ,basically the whole kitchen sink to make it look better to quit hiding my head in hats like gino from 90 day fiance lol .with vigilance and putting in the time I got way more back than I ever thought would happen .only regret .I wish all these things were available to me when I was 19 when I first started losing hair

It does not look like you had any under eye bags develop while on oral minoxidil. There are probably some a**holes trolling you, who should just be ignored. I tried Loniten at 1.25 mg per day, and my whole left side felt tingly, with wicked chest tightness after 2 weeks, so I quit. Topical minox 8% compounded with 0.01% tretinoin is working well for me. If you want to try something else, maybe consider other topicals like spironolactone, cetirizine, or high concentration latanoprost.

I've used topical saw palmetto myself for about a year in the past, way before any finasteride. Simply put, it was very expensive, about £70 for 1 month supply and it did jack shit. Went from Norwood 3 to Norwood 5 :/ Why don't you speak to your doctor and ask for a smaller dose of oral, or even topical fin?

There's no right answer as nobody really knows. I would suggest to add topical while you're still on oral, and after a week reduce oral dose if you can, maybe take every second day? And slowly transition into topical only

in UK it's super easy. There are plenty of online pharmacies like pharmacy2u etc. where you sign up, fill in questionnaire and they'll decide whether to prescribe it to you. Alternatively there are online prescription services like Manual where it's all the same. Fill in questionnaire and get your meds delivered.

yes. It's initial shedding caused by meds, however this should stabilise in upcoming months and regrow back thicker and stronger

yes and no. Every hair will be dependand on minoxidil once you introduce it as it will try and prolonge anagen growth phase. Once stopped, it might go through shedding. So it doesn't matter whether it's transplanted or not. If you're not ready to use minoxidil long term, don't start.

It wont damage the hair if that's what you're really worried about. Transplanted hair won't magically leave forever once you use minoxidil abd than later stop. Think of it this way. If a person with a full head of hair that has no family history of balding decides to use minoxidil will he shed all his hair if he stops and that's it? No. The growing phases just go back to normal. Long story short minoxidil won't make you bald.

OM has very short half life. I'd try to take it every day, or at least 1 days brake. It's not like Fin that stays in the body for longer
