Floaty frontend is a 911 trait, essentially a consequence of the weight distribution. Can be mitigated by adjusting your technique. Understeer can be modulated by tweaking the suspension. Factory settings are generally on the safer side. The gear selection mechanism is cable driven (as I'm sure you know already) and there's a lot that can be adjusted at the selector and the cables. There should also be a short shift kit (as there are for 997s) which I really like. Great car, great sound, magnificent steering.

Jeff the clutch pedal feels heavy when they are worn out, seams backwards but true. While you are in there replace the IMS, when they start seeping its the first sign of the bearing going bad and vibrating the seal.

Engine mounts mate yours seem shagged judging by a few things you said and the amount of movement in the exhaust tips. The rein 993 turbo mounts are good value you will be surprised how much of a difference it makes to the understeer and gearbox feel. Clunk is probably coffin arms or sway bar drop links. To fix up the gearbox vagueness grab a set of powerflex street transmission mount inserts + engine mounts + 997 gearbox shifter assembly all surprisingly pretty cheap. Please don't use Penrite ProGear in the gearbox, the best I have managed to find is Motul 300 LS I have thrown lots of trial and error into sorting these things on mine so just trying to save you some double work mate. Loved vid glad you guys are enjoying it!

Yup thought of engine mounts as well hehe. I understand that modifying the gearbox linkage with Motorsport stuff brings an amazing feel at the cost of abnoxious noise... Didn't know you could use 997 mechanism on the 996.

Short shifter and upgraded shift cables go a long way in those. The cables can get a bit pricy but its worth it. Changing the trans fluid out with motul makes a huge difference also. My 996 feels leaps and bounds better to shift compared to a stock one.

Clutches are heavy by design. My 986 was the same and quite the workout for one leg. Not sure if it's the same but the brakes on the 986 seemed poor until you stomped on them as they have less assist. Good luck with all the rattles, I went through and replaced all the suspension parts and it still rattled!

Since the clutch is hydraulic, try to refresh the fluid* and PTFE the mechanism in the interior. *even if the brake fluid gets refreshed (and even that's not always the case), the clutch fluid tends to be forgotten. I change these fluid every year. Its cheap, it can be done in 15 minutes and it's a safety thing. I prefer safety over a polish.

Gearbox is an easy fix. Fit a Rennline short shift kit. Beautifully engineered, every piece is metal unlike the 997 version commonly used which has some plastic, plus the Rennline has three positions so you can decide how short you want it.
