FYI: The whole BTS and K-pop discussion is extremely complicated and also emotional; I think the easiest take on it is: BTS fans want BTS to be recognized for their unique artistry and achievements and we don't want others to ride on their coat-tails. Others have to go their own way. Also, we don't want them lumped into a category that limits them. A lot more could be said but I don't think that's necessary here.

@@718pjm kpop isn’t equal to korean culture. it literally is a system with roots to the us and japan. also kpop doesn’t include all korean artists. BTS are Korean artists, no one is denying that. But Kpop does seem to limit them, they can be more than that. BTS said their genre is BTS style in the latest grammy review.

@@718pjmThe genre is BTS. That’s the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre." - Jungkook, V, and J-Hope
@dancemachine19194 жыл бұрын
@@718pjm your reasoning is flawed. As someone else said kpop is not the end all be all for Korean culture especially when the term kpop was literally created by Western media. It's used mostly to "otherize" or separate music sung in Korean as I've seen even Monsta X's music classified as kpop despite releasing music entirely in English. This categorization is similar to what has been done with black musicians for decades by lumping them into the R&B genre whether or not the music they released was truly R&B. To your second point, you don't have to make music in the same genre to pave the way for others who share something in common with you. Michael Jackson paved the way for black artists of any genre to have their music videos shown on MTV, receive major endorsements, etc. BTS is doing the same for all Korean artists but furthermore East Asian musicians as a whole.

Okay the whole Kpop vs not Kpop is extremely messy and that’s mainly because what the West considers ‘Kpop’ is different to what actual Koreans consider Kpop. Kpop to Koreans is just Popular Korean Music which means that includes ballad singers, hip hop basically whatever is popular. What we consider Kpop is what Koreans consider ‘Idol Music’ and ‘Idol Music’ caries connotations that the idol is made very corporately, they don’t have any autonomy in their music and they are very ‘factory like’. Of course this doesn’t apply to BTS and a few other groups as well as their companies ‘training’ system wasn’t really in place and BTS do compose, produce etc. So when Westerners say ‘BTS isn’t Kpop’ what they actually mean is that ‘BTS isn’t Idol Music’, their music isn’t just given for them to perform. So yes BTS are Kpop BUT they don’t put out ‘idol music’. However because these terms are lost in the translation between countries people argue over these concepts without even realising that they are talking about two very different things. I guess that’s the unfortunate thing about language and culture differences is that it’s hard to communicate fully. Anyway, I hope I made sense lol and thanks for the reaction.

The reason ppl say bts isn’t Kpop is because of some factors..Bts do a lot of things other Kpop groups don’t do.But all Kpop groups can sing and dance but for example not all Kpop groups write there own music.Usually Kpop groups sing and dance to music there company tells them to do.Trusf me they are all great singers and dancers but that’s just one example.Also bc has lots of different genres of music as well..Aa I said before a lot of other Kpop artist don’t write there own music so when bts writes there own music they do a storyline.Idk if you will fully understand it basically bts has a storyline in there videos that if you watch it in a specific order you can see the story.Bts has also done short films for the story line.Bts alps references jung carl which is basically talking about map of the soul and his theory’s.i honestly don’t know how to explain it bc you have to watch the videos in order and watch some theory explained videos but I just wanted to let you know that.Fake love is part of the storyline by the way.Also bts has gone mainstream compared to other Kpop groups and they were the first to do so much.Bts came from a small company and in korea if your a Kpop groups in a small company you won’t be successful.The reason for that is bc usally those big companys are able to help there artist more and those artist are able to be in more shows, award shows and other things.So in korea not a lot of ppl thought bts would become big especially globally.So bts had to be “different” and had to do other things to show there talents and skills.Thats also another reason why the say bts isn’t Kpop bc bts had to take another route to be more popular.Bts toke a more organic way, usually if your an artist from a big company you are most likely to be popular more faster.Thats just how it works and I didn’t understand why but it’s just a conman thing.There are other things but if you learn more about bts you’ll see that they aren’t Kpop and they aren’t fully pop music either.So rays why ppl debate weather or not they are Kpop.Yes they are a Kpop group but compared to other groups bts Goes a step beyond what Kpop groups do.
@aliiirxsa42354 жыл бұрын
Finally someone who knows what they're saying A lot of people just say _oh yeah they don't do Kpop_ (meaning the "Genre Kpop") but Kpop isn't a genre it's an industry and content like Suga said. They technically are a Kpop group cuz they are apart of that content, but like u said they're not a very typical one But luckily a lot of Rookie groups also now write, compose and produce their own music now (for example Stray Kids or Ateez)

(I've been listening to Kpop for 6 years, been an ARMY for 6 years as well, and I even got my Master's Degree dissertation written about the Kpop industry - with BTS as my case study - so I'd like to believe that I kinda know what I'm talking about) tl;dr Follow BTS if you really consider yourself ARMY - spread the love and support, don't create the illusion of THEM and US, don't divide people and fans. Be humble and respectful. BTS, even though they are worldwide and world-class artists, are a Kpop group. Even in the one of their recent interviews Suga was talking about what Kpop is - it is not just a music genre, neither it is just the industry - it is the combination of many features that make Kpop unique: a combination of singing and rapping with dance performance, playing and experimenting with genres and concepts, it is fashion and music videos. What makes Kpop great is that there is no "one and only" genre or style - so saying some Kpop group's music or style is bigger than Kpop makes no sense, as by default Kpop is inclusive of all genres and styles, and gives the artists the freedom to experiment with their sound and image. It is possible to like only BTS, and it is okay to call yourself ARMY instead of Kpopper (most Kpop fans use their main fandom name to identify themselves anyways - Kpopper is just a general term for all of the fandoms and the Kpop genre fans), but BTS fans not wanting to be mixed with Kpoppers is just self-contradictory. Saying you're a Kpopper doesn't automatically mean that you like ALL Kpop acts - it means that you like at least one Kpop act. Therefore, I think it's unfair to say that most of the BTS fans are not Kpop fans - and don't you think it kinda makes BTS fans look more extreme and exclusive than they actually are? It's like saying that BTS fans don't like music - they just like BTS. Also ARMYs are in no way better or worse than "kpoppers", I don't know why people would prefer to be so openly and extremely exclusive of BTS (people saying "we only like BTS, no other kpop groups" or things like that) and make it seem like BTS are better than Kpop itself. This is why some outsiders can see BTS fans are over the top and no chill, and as much as I appreciate the amount of love BTS has been getting these past couple of years, it makes me - a veteran ARMY - roll my eyes at that kind of behavior. Isn't BTS teaching us about loving ourselves and also spreading love to others? Then why do some fans behave like BTS is better than other Kpop groups? We should be spreading love and support to other Kpop idols too - some of you may not remember how difficult it was to be on the other side, and it shows. Such fans should have some love and respect for the place BTS came from and acknowledge BTS as BOTH artists and idols - no need to put other Kpop idols down to make BTS look better, especially that BTS in a huge way influences the industry and inspires the changes - many of new generation groups now also write/compose their music, discuss society/mental health issues/self love - and it is all thanks to BTS's success. There is no need to make BTS sound like they're one and only, lords and saviors - even if they are in fact the driving force for the changes, paving the way for another Kpop acts. Be humble about BTS - there's no need to prove to everyone how great they are, their music and acheivments speak for them. Sorry not sorry for the rant, but seeing some of the comments just made me upset at how blindsided some fans can be.

It’s not a song, but I recommend watching the BTS 7 second interview (I will link it, the video has captions) because it’s so funny but also somehow manages to show each members’ personalities perfectly: RM: awkward but super enthusiastic Jin: cool but actually a dork Suga: shy unless he’s talking about music or the other members Jimin: cute and giggly V: thoughtful and sincere Jungkook: a kid at heart J-Hope: seems chill but is actually intense, a little bit of a control freak but hides it with a smile, always positive Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnead6BrZ7SqjJI

BTS have a few songs writed specifically for ARMY, one of them is named Microcosmos. You can say DNA is about the connection between BTS and ARMY. Our moments together are destined.

Artistically alone for those backgrounds, DNA is definitely my favorite of their music videos. The paint in the backgrounds. All the gorgeous colors. I just love it all so much!!! It makes my painter heart, my artist art so happy!!! I love all the vibrancy so much!!! All the popping color!!! Just ahhh!!!

I hope you understand how big and impactful they are. React to bts nobodies to legends 2019 , bts crash course 2020, or bts contribution to music, to get to know what kind of influence they are, cause if you don't know, bts are very different. They have that classic rags to riches story, they came from a low budgeted company and and were almost poor. They got hated on for so long because of that. They worked their way to the top to get so big where they are now. They are very different than other groups and artists. All of their music have messages that talk about, wrongs in the society and today's generation, standing up for the youth, self love, hardships, never giving up, being happy, and even woman empowerment and much much more. The group your getting into, helped so many people with their music. Looking from this video, you don't probably know who they really are which is okay cause your getting to know them, but bts's music is not only to bop to cause once you know what there saying it goes deep and beyond artistry.

I feel DNA is such an underrated song. People pay less attention because the performance vibe is very Kpop. The song itself is really masterpiece. Listen to it when you drive at night. It brings you to a fantasy world.

DNA was their breakthrough song in the US, when they dropped this at the AMAs. They rarely use green screen but some of the background here was definitely green screen.

A few things other than mv that you could warch/react to: 1. BTS Carpool Karaoke, it’s ridiculously funny and shows how great their singing actually is 2. "Who is BTS?" That video really helped me get to know them 3. "BTS being extra af in America" also really funny and you’ll get to know all their chaotic personalities😂💞

Thing with bts is that, they have amazing MV’s, but side song are the most amazing... just lyrics and sound can bring you to another world, and the most important thing is that their lyrics literally can change life, so please don’t miss that

BTS not only writes their own lyrics but they also produce their music. They contribute to the choreography, and music video concepts. This is the main reason why many don’t consider them k-pop... bc kpop artists dont have a lot of say at what they sing/dance/etc... while BTs and their company BigHit work together to creat music. You said it yourself in the beginning of each MV “music for healing” DNA is one of their most romantic lyrics in my opinion. Awesome reaction 💜

I watched a lot of kpop reaction videos since i began to drown in the kpop world... haha. and I got bored of them because, well, most of them have the same culture and similar thoughts on videos/songs (because a lot of them are Americans, nothing wrong about that, they're just the majority). But somehow you bring new thoughts and you bring back the pure satisfaction I had when I began to watch people discover such amazing artists. Also, you put on the subtitles, you pay attention to the video... And you simply have a great personality, it's fun to watch you being in wonder of BTS ! So, just. Thank you. Keep doing what you do, you're awesome :)
