I love watching your videos! You have inspired me in so many ways, thank you for what you do! I love seeing the PowerPoint slides, I purchased you kit and am just stating this week on using them as I have been intimidated and not sure what I want to add. Seeing yours helped so much, again thank you!

@Mrs. Call's Campers Mayleen, I always say that a little encouragement goes a long way and I really like how you integrated Class Dojo into your slides to kind of boost Your Students' Mojo if you know what I am saying. Also you should do an all-teacher outfits video because looking at you really makes me smile when I need it the most. You are one of the most beautiful teachers I have ever seen on here. You rock. - Dwight

I know it is summer, but would you be willing to do a video on how you do centers in the classroom? I know the kids have center folders with worksheets, but what are the other items they can choose if they finish? How do you make groups because they seem different than the kids pulled for small group?

FYI in CCSD your school can order Harcourt decodable books from the graphics department they are black and white copies already cut and stapled into books. They are very useful and can be sent home with students.

Thanks again for all the useful information! Being able to see you actually teaching the kids and how you interact with them has been extremely helpful. Something I would like to either see in your videos or added to your free resources is a little more on people drawing. I did the People drawing lesson with my kids yesterday, but I don’t know how to teach them how to draw different facial expressions. I am not an artist and I am trying to learn to be better. I want to help my kids, but I can’t do it myself!😂 if you don’t have time to film how you teach drawing the expressions, could you maybe just post that page from your book of how you drew each of the expressions? I think if I could see it I could maybe replicate it. Thanks again so much!

I wish our school would never have gotten rid of the AR program. We let it go about 10 years ago and the reasoning was that the questions each test asked didn´t make students think deeply enough. Our goal is to get students to read because the way to get better at reading is to READ! Our students are lacking motivation to read and that is one of the great things about AR. The questions are asked just to make certain the child read the entire book and didn´t just skim through it. AR wasn´t designed to be the reading curriculum. The teacher will continue asking those higher order type questions to make our students think deeply about things. Sometimes kids need a fun, exciting reason to do something.
@MrsCallsCampers2 жыл бұрын
Reading is fun when you know how to read. I don't love AR. I've already seen how stressed my kids are over it. I don't think it should be pushed in kinder and first grade. Upper grades sure have fun with it. i don't think good teachers need a program to motivate kids to read. We need good teachers that know how to teach kids to read so they can read what they want - that's when reading is fun

How do you feel about not having a reading curriculum? I could imagine it being either very freeing (allowing for much creativity on the part of the teacher) or a ton of work because you have to create/determine everything yourself and you don't have a guide to follow (other than standards)
@MrsCallsCampers2 жыл бұрын
You’re exactly right!! I think as a new teacher it would be intimidating. Three hardest thing is not really having decodables already at my disposal but my school did buy us a few and I bought my own. I really prefer to do my own thing with reading though!

Got so excited when I saw you posted. Thank you for sharing all this info! 🤩 Can you explain why you’re not totally in love with the Little Thinkers product? I’m just curious. Also, where did you get the vocabulary cards during the read aloud? I remember you mentioning in the last video that retell kit doesn’t come with it. Did you make them yourself?
@MrsCallsCampers2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know my kids just didn’t find it super interesting. Maybe it was just that first unit. The curriculum comes with “teacher made” books and they just kind of dragged…. Yes vocab cards I made myself! :)

@@sarahp444 yeah I just think the teacher created books are never as interesting to kids that is why I am kind of giving up on the curriculum..may use bits and pieces but I’ll just incorporate it from read alouds as much as I can haha! I thought I would try something different this year that was more structured but I think it’s just not my thing😂😂😂 I’ll look into Cara’s and check it out though!
