In Italy we use to call Temistocle Calzecchi-Onesti as the inventor of the Coherer, as he published papers about it in 1884-86

Great to see someone under 60 taking an interest in the fundamentals of communications technology. There were some smart cookies back then we should respect and honor. Last year I built a working Marconi type magnetic detector... A more difficult task, but I have 50+ years of experience to build on.. No doubt you could do the same with enough motivation.

Can you make a video on yours?
@terrencekrause212417 сағат бұрын
Holy cats!😱 that’s most impressive!!😏👌🏻 A magnetic detector is one of the most (if not THE most) complex receivers devised for wireless Morse code. It’s what the Titanic was equipped with, I do believe… But seriously; the clockwork mechanism and the wire coil configured more like a ‘tape’… to actually build that and get it to work is beyond stunning. 🤯📻⚡️ I just have so many questions for you… you should totally do a video on it! Keep up your experiments!!🤗 All the best from the Dominion of Canada!!🇬🇧🍁👑🇨🇦

My son, who is all of seven just put together his first home made telegraph transmitter today, now we are working on a relay and then a receiver. It's fun to see someone interested in old school, but still useful, technology.

This is a great video, your RF set looks great. I built a coherer detector as well recently, triggered by your video. It does detect radio waves when adjusted properly, even in the 144 MHz (2M) radio band when strong enough.

JC. Bose is known as the father of wireless telecommunication. He had invented the Mercury Coherer, a radio wave receiver that was used by Guglielmo Marconi to build an operational two-way radio. While Marconi was celebrated for his invention, Bose remained unknown to many, as he never patented his work.

I'm curious about how the bell stops ringing when you release the spark button. Although it seems like pressing the button completes the circuit, something must be happening when you let go to interrupt the flow and silence the bell. Could you explain this process in more detail?

What is the purpose of using a relay in this setup? It seems like the two batteries share the same characteristics so it's not as if you need to use a low voltage system to control a high voltage system. But I have always found even basic electronics difficult to wrap my head around so I'm likely missing something fundamental here.

Great video, Ty! Your workmanship and explanation are both first rate. Did you make the spark gap transmitter too? The wood looks authentic to the period. The earliest receiver around here has a crystal detector. Otherwise I have standard vacuum tubes in TRF, Regenerative, and Superheterodyne radios. Check my KZbin and Flikr sites to see a few radios. You are on the right track. If you want to really understand and appreciate modern electronics you need to first go back to the early technology. Fun stuff!

Thanks Ken! Yes, I built the transmitter as well, I've had that for a while and need to make a video of it someday! I also did some distance tests of this system outside, which I need to edit and post as well.

Congratulations! You invented the same thing that my fellow citizen Marconi had already invented about two centuries ago! Unfortunately, however, your device does not seem to faithfully respond to short points of the Morse alphabet, while the Marconi's does. I mean: "did", sorry ;) (what is the exact function of relay??? Is it really necessary??)
