250g 4 inch 1505 on 4s at 3600kv is roughly equal in disc loading, stator volume to prop disc area, voltage to RPM ratio, and blade tip speed as a 400g 5 inch 2005 at 6s and 1900kv. So yeah, there's a reason it looks like it flies so well, it's basically an 80% scale ultralight racing 5-inch.

I just received my bind-n-fly version today from Get FPV. It does seem to be pretty high quality, though I haven't flown it yet. I'm practicing cruising around in acro mode on the Inductrix FPV Plus for a good while first, and I'm going to get Velocidrone pretty soon. I'd like to get very comfortable with acro controls on other machines first.

I've flown my BNF X-Knight a few times now, and it is definitely a fast little machine. On the BNF version, they don't come with the pigtail zip tied to the arm. I strongly recommend doing that before the first flight. I had a very slight crash during landing on my second initial line-of-sight test flight, and the insulation on the power wires got chopped a tiny bit. I wrapped the wires with electrical tape and cinched it under the arm with a zip tie. I feel lucky to have learned that lesson without actually needing to replace the pigtail.

I have been LOVING my X-Knight. It is an absolute rocket off the launch block!! Super quick.. You went with the 48khz version of J-ESC huh? I‘ ll have to switch and try it..
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
48kHz makes pretty much any quad run smoother and more power efficient. I even run some 5" drones on 48kHz now (usually via BLHeli_32). In theory, 24kHz can have a bit more power on the low end, but I haven't really that in practice.

A tip for Mr Shutterbug. I am impressed with the titanium screws on the PNP build of my Knight but they are a pain if using cheap L shaped allen wrenches, as you mention. However, get yourself a nice hobby quality 1.5mm precision allen head screw driver and the pain ends! It hooks up securely and applies lots of torque. Got mine from RPM for RC cars.
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
Please note that the X-Knight no longer comes with the screws that I complained about. I have a good 1.5mm driver, but the old screws required a smaller driver, which made them easier to strip.

Love your videos! This thing rips although I still think 4" is kinda a dead zone. Never flown a 4" so... Take with a grain of salt but 3" is in my opinion the sweet spot for casual flying with lower risk, while 5" is best for carrying the HD load. Arguments could be made I'm sure...

Does the pre-built drone come with the V3.0 FC? Or does it come with the 2.0? I want to swap the stock camera out with a Caddex Vista with crossfire, but only 3.0 has the UARTs to take both. The added weight shouldn't be too big of a deal since this drone stock has power to spare. Might need to run a smaller lighter battery to keep it below 250g, but DVI FPV is too good to pass up. Alternatively I can wait for a smaller lighter DVI camera setup to come out, but it'll still need the additional solder slots, so V3.0 is better for future proofing anyway.
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I don't actually know which version of the FC the BNF would come with. It might be v2 since they don't specify.

How did you wire up the video? Albert Kim mentioned that he was getting horizontal lines possibly from esc. I am getting horizontal lines and they are getting worse. If it is only a build issue, I can change it. I just need to know what to adjust. Albert mentioned bigger cap. What size did you end up using? Thanks.
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
Do you have any lines when the props are NOT spinning? If so, then it is not an ESC problem. If the lines only appear when the props are spinning, and change with the speed of the props, then they are probably caused by electrical noise, like Albert said. Sometimes a bent prop or excessively high P gain can make it worse. I'm using the capacitor that came with the 20A AIO FC. I think it's 220uF. I moved the capacitor into the canopy so that it connects directly to the VBAT pads via short wires. That change probably didn't change the video quality however. I just don't like having a cap at the end of my power lead. Good luck.

Bought it, didn't like it. Was talking to one of the guys at progressiverc telling him I was looking for a 5" quad. He recommended the X-knight saying how good it was and comparable to a 5". I didn't have the heart to tell him I already had one and didn't like it. After a couple weeks I decided to give the X-knight a 2nd chance and now it's not uncommon for me to fly it 10-12 times on a Sunday.

Here's a diff for Betaflight 4.2.0. What would be a faster drone to buy the X knight or the twig mutant 4 inch? I want somthing fast...
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say. The X-Knight has higher KV, so it might be faster. But the Mutant is a more durable design, and has larger motors. The Mutant motor also have an M5 shaft, so there are way more prop options, including props with more pitch with will go faster. That's why I say it's hard to say. I would recommend the Mutant as a better overall build.
@fpvrehab83104 жыл бұрын
If you could only choose one. Would you rather have the x knight or the betafpv twig xl 3” or 4” ?
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
Hmm... it depends on how much space you have. The Twig XL is a 3” drone and might be better for smaller spaces. But if you’ve got room to rip, either the X-Knight4 or the Twig Mutant 4” would be amazing. If I had to pick I would probably go with the Mutant because I think the frame will be more durable.
@archer49224 жыл бұрын
Very nice. 🤙 for racing which would you recommend, the x knight or the mutant?
@MrShutterBug4 жыл бұрын
Well, I think the mutant will be more durable, but the X-Knight has replaceable arms. So that's a trade-off. If you're serious about racing I suggest you check out the MUTANT-R that Bryon Graves has been working on. It's specifically designed for racing and even has a fin for turtle mode. I was testing an early prototype of the MUTANT-R in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH-5foxjqLylgJo.

Isn’t xt30 underkill?
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the amount of current required. The XT30 connector is rated for 30A of continuous current. This drone uses less than half that most of the time. In an extreme punch-out, it might hit 30A but never for very long. An XT60 would work well too, of course, but I don't think you would feel any difference in flight performance. Now, if the drone were heavier and used more current, then yes an XT60 would be required in that case.
