Every rhythm game community is starting to be like this. It first started with the GD stuff (not particularly a rhythm game), then so came AFODAI being infected, then Melatonin being a huge hit. osu! came soon to follow, with the funny gameplay and funny trendy song with funny video background. If you think about it, it was bound to happen anyway. osu! has had memes before such as using a drill for the spinner and the abundance of Harumachi Clover. Although, I really agree how this could be such a terrible thing. I don't even think the people who make these videos are part of the osu! community, let alone major figures. Thanks, Spazza.
@sihamhamda478 ай бұрын
YT shorts, IG reels and tiktok themselves are extremely addictive. Every replay loop counts as views and once you watched a short content, a flood of similar contents suddenly following you when you continue scrolling through the shorts timeline, pushing you into the deepest rabbit hole of addiction. No wonder why most popular and new content creators are now jumping to short form content because shorts giving advantages of the autoplay + algorithm + addiction combo, making them the most effective thing to increase the engagement rate regardless of the quality of content.
@li_mao8 ай бұрын
thats really true, like for example when it comes to the GD community, the majority of people actually despise these shorts content creators which there are 2 major ones of and some smaller ones, i think that these types of shorts (the brainrot and shit ones) really can ruin the perception of outside people to a community and some are just more or less cashgrabs and attention seekers (not everyone tho)
@memesong218 ай бұрын
the adofai ones were especially egregious, reusing the same rhythm hell format for every video. at least compared to the geometry dash ones, remittal (an adofai shorts creator) has actual skill at the game and plays all the stuff he uploads, whereas kaiguy (geometry dash) bots all the shitty wave challenges he defecates out in 10 minutes for a random video that consequently gets 7 million views, yet considers himself somewhat of a gd andrew tate. he has a course to get better at the game (PAID btw) and he hasn't even beaten an extreme iirc

hi spazza, probably dont know me but i started making shorts right at the start of february and probably started the entire rabbit hole trend for osu shorts, i was already a huge fan of channelcaststation's previous work and noticed that it had a map made for lazer with vertical orientation being a gimmick, and played it with absolutely no thought whatsoever of what the consequences would be, and it ended up bringing back up this entire drama/feud of osu shorts content being slop garbage i noticed the same thing about more popular osu shorts being more about trends, memes, and shitposts rather than the game itself so with that in mind, i shifted on playing more maps that have something cool or are just familiar songs if you've ever played/watched osu! even for a few times, not to mention storyboards and keysounded maps, they're not getting millions of views but its i think what can showcase osu! better to people interested, but admittedly sometimes still do trendy songs, never non-music beatmaps though

As someone who also started farming osu! shorts at the end of last year I 100% agree with what spazza said in this video. I sometimes do wish I kinda never started making them since 90% of my subs are just boosted by the osu! shorts and it is disheartening seeing a higher sub count and really low views on my long form. Like yeah its cool seeing myself at a sub count that i've wanted for a while but in the end less than 10% or even 5% of them come back to watch my long form or shorts. But it is what it is, I do want to start focusing a lot more on better quality long form and not post as many shorts. And I hope to be known more for my long form in the near future

It's not just the algorithm. But most people don't even know the name of the shorts creator they have watched for the last 50 times, because they never try to make you remember their name. The branding is failing in that regard compared to videos with way more persoanl depth. So as a shorts creator if your video doesn't land in the algorithm you're fucked. With videos you can also sort of rely on other factors like subscribers, notifications and so on.

W video W take And I completely agree with everything you said. Especially with how osu! shorts don't affect longform views on the same, and even other longform channels Short form content also means that it's super easy to be forgotten- short content, short trends, short memory, short lifespan- just like you said, it won't build an audience with a true lasting bond (which is quite literally a key component of being an established content creator)

My calculations may not be correct, but I can assume that for every 25-30 thousand views of shorts video creator gets 1-1.5 dollars. If you calculate the average monthly reach of 40 million views, it comes out to more than 1500 dollars, you also need to take into account that everything depends on the region of video viewing. It turns out that for a month the creator of shorts gets 1/3 of the prize money owc lol. Now such times that the conveyor of low-grade shorts videos gain more than really interesting videos

Well, i want to give my opinion as someone that has both decent views in shorts and long form videos (less decent in shorts). I used to do shorts back then, editing clips from my twitch channel, ones where I absolutely pop off and show the peak of my ability to play the game, and trust me, I have done A LOT of them, and uploaded to various platforms. They always got ignored. I tried making shorts with a storyline, using quality and engaging edition, trying to make it have a "perfect loop", guess what? No one saw it. The ones I actually put effort into, don't get attention, so for the longest time I just stopped uploading shorts. At the end it was just a waste of time. My long form videos luckily do great so I'm just doing that. The thing is that, when some brands contact me and ask me for a budget, even thought the budget I offer is relatively low, I had two cases in where they didn't want to accept it because "my Shorts view were low and the content uploading rate inconsistent", from two different companies. At the same time, my videos started popping off and other companies want to send me their keyboards specifically to feature them in Short form content (strawberry or seif kind of content), so I just accept it. I start doing the retard npc content, not because I love it, not because I wake up so happy to map a random song or to steal maps from other creators to make quick money, but more because the brands require me to do it, and I don't want to miss out on these opportunities early on. Shorts pay well, that's true, but that's not the reason I make the shorts. Subscribers are nice, yes? Well no, I also don't like seeing the subscriber count include the short subscribers, but what can I even do about this? I kind of know what's my real following and that's about it. Do I feel proud of myself for making short content? Yes and no. The ones where I just steal maps that are 4 stars and effortlessly pump out content, I obviously don't feel proud. But I enjoy making my own map with my touch of difficulty and show off a bit of my skill I built this past 10 years. Takes more effort, and I feel more rewarded. I think you have to understand that KZbin naturally makes these content creators what they are. Part of naturally improving your product is following the trend and following whatever gives you the $. In this case, happens to be the dirty borderline NSFW shorts content. But what can we even do about it right? I have seen other creators use literal NSFW videos where some random girl from a kids game shows her tits and you can literally see it if you pause at the right timing, it's a bit hidden under the note spam that is there. I find that to be disgusting and I don't like or respect that content at all. The closest I've done is the rabbit hole and I already felt disgusting with that one. Tldr: I focus on long form content. I don't do shorts out of passion or because of money, but because it's actually a requirement I need to follow with companies that work with me, and to work with companies that literally dismissed me because my shorts didn't get views. I do the NPC shorts because it's the only thing that works in osu content. End of story Good video! ❤

I feel like it's such a pointless argument, short form content has been deliberately designed to keep users scrolling, the algorithm will and always has favors content that generates intrigue/upset/any feeling that leaves you wanting more. In that way, somehow it knows people better than, well, people know people. The whole problem with the osu "content" is twofold, first that the content that goes viral or gets the most views never really has anything to do with the game, more so a storyboard, some weird playstyle, stupid shit basically, and while that's not what osu people know osu for, it's what everyone else who doesn't know what osu is will know osu for. "Oh osu? haha yeah! using a drill to play the game!" or some variation of that. Secondly, the osu content that's actually gameplay... lets be honest, osu is intrinsically not that entertaining to watch. Its why tournaments have casters, and all the people you think of when you hear "osu content creator" have personalities associated with them. Honestly it feels almost as boring to watch "accolibed pp record" as "-gn unforgiven fl fc", both scores are hype as fuck, but god both aren't 100% worth watching. This isn't to deter anyone from making osu content, but more of pointing out a hurdle that every osu creator needs to pass to really "make it". Though I detest shorts, I'll admit that it's extremely lucrative in the short term, but that's just it, short term. Which again, feels like a pointless argument. How is anyone going to convince people to stop watching youtube shorts? How's that going to make any difference once people inevitably resume watching youtube shorts? How can it change?
