This song was written for and originaly performed at the first S&M concert they did in 1999. Another new song from that show is "Minus Human".

Michael Kamen had a huge love of heavy metal music. Especially Metallica! When the guy who literally wrote the music text book compliments them…that’s as high as the praise can get.

You GOTTA watch the whole thing....and simultaneously recognize how good James's voice is knowing that he's going to go back into rehab in just a couple months. His nearly a cappella version of the unforgiven 3, the basist who does a solo as a tribute to Cliff Burton, and just the entire performance is utterly spectacular

That song was on the S&M Album. You also have to hear "Minus Human"....the screeching violins. It's a beautiful cacophony. It all makes sense. METALLICA!!!!!

You really need to check out Metallica at the Gershwin Awards for Elton John and Bernie Taupin. They did Funeral for a Friend and Love Lies Bleeding. Quite an amazing performance. It was in March of this year. BTW that Les Paul Kirk is playing is worth more than your house.

That was the exact moment that I’ve stopped listening to MetallicA.I felt so betrayed by them to perform an Elton John song that I sold my white explorer and I threw all my MetallicA related stuff.Gay pop and Thrash Metal don’t mix

@@cowboybill.2433 So a metal band can't have been influenced by softer rock? I don't consider EJ pop btw. And that same metal band can't show their appreciation to said rock icon?

The original Metallica S&M concert's symphony was written and arranged by legendary composer Michael Kamen, famous for collaborating with rock and pop acts. One of the reasons they did the second concert was in part to pay tribute to Michael who past in 2003 from complications due to MS. They used Michael's arrangements again on the same songs that were played in the second concert with the San Francisco Symphony.

S&M1 in 1999 was amazing the set list and James voice was incredible. You should check “ Hero of the day” and “Bleeding me” the show was much better than the second one.

And since you said you've been out of Metallica for a while I have to throw my usual plug in for what I think is just a phenomenal song actually three great songs from two not wildly popular albums. Bleeding me, the outlaw torn, and fixxer

The Original S&M (1999) version is MUCH better, due to the smaller venue and the late great Micheal Kamen conducting the SFSO, oh and the song being debuted at and for the show.
