You can see he is no longer a human but a cyborg. He's presented with his back to the viewer, probably left his past behind and became somewhat of an outlaw with a cause, with his sword representing honor and a personal level towards he's goal. She's human in charge of terminating him but her face looks tired, sad and hesitated to pull the trigger and without an aggressive/defensive pose. He looks completely calm with his guard down without regrets and complete trust in her. Probably there was an intimate relationship between. Sorry about the english.

I got burned like that once. Love or not, if there's not enough respect in that relationship, I'm out. That's my advice to anyone. Love is a gift that someone has a privilege to, not a right.
