Remember back in your Series Ranking when you have this analogy for Series 12? It’s like in Resurrection of the Daleks when they had all of these plans that would actually work and ensure victory for the Daleks. However the problem was, they acted out all of those plans at once. So the Dalek’s strategy became all muddled and that sealed their defeat. That’s basically the best way I can describe many episodes of this series. Especially this one.

Just for fun and because neither this nor the next episode do, I’m going to try and explain what I think The Division’s deal could have been and how it relates to the Doctor. Taking in to account the fact The Doctor would’ve been against Division’s ultimate goal, Division erased her memories and put her TARDIS in a museum. Their secret was safe. The Division has been messing around with our universe for so long no outside of their own would know, and, since they had time travel, even the very origins of Division were erased as a safe guard. No one of significance could stop them anymore. Except one. They forgot to factor in how much the moral compass of the TARDIS had grown on her missions with her beloved Doctor. Knowing that her Time Lord, no matter what they looked like, couldn’t keep still for very long, the TARDIS stole them away when the opportunity presented itself, cleverly making it seem like it was The Doctor’s plan - to hide her own hidden agenda: penitence. She decided that the only way to fight Division now was to correct every “correction” they made to time, planet by planet, one by one. But their was just one problem: the men and women she had travelled with and had taught her so much about justice were lost, to be replaced with this moody, white-haired teenager. How was she going to get him under control? She’d need some help. Thankfully, help came in the form of the old boy’s granddaughter who was a lot more agreeable than her relative. The pair built up a bond so strong that the TARDIS even told her her name and what it stood for, that impressed Mr Frowny-face I can tell you. And before long, the TARDIS grew to trust the girl so much that she decided to tell her everything. One day, after an argument with her grandfather about her schooling, the girl hatched a plan that would help the TARDIS and give her some much needed space from Grumpy. And so the TARDIS sat, waiting among the discarded rubbish of this strange, alien world, waiting for the young girl to bring the people that would help breath new life into the old man - reminding him of the lessons in morality he had once taught her. She waited in I.M. Foreman, Totter’s Lane. And the rest, is unhistory.

I generally don't dislike exposition-dump stories (I really enjoyed The Timeless Children for example) but with a 6-episode run-time they really had to make every second count and Survivors of the Flux just didn't count for much. The stand-out scene of the episode is definitely the Tecteun scenes that follow her reveal. Her attitude and what she says to the Doctor perfectly encapsulate an abusive parental figure. What happened to the Doctor was a delicate subject, and I'm glad they at least handled that aspect with *some* care. The few scenes with Swarm and Grand Serpent are absolutely carried by their performances. Yeah we probably could have just gotten rid of them, but they're an absolute joy to watch on screen. Chibnall's strength is definitely characterising the villains, and Survivors of the Flux once again proved that.

Thank you for addressing the beard! That one small scene drives me insane. Survivor is probably not the worst episode, but the 1904 is got to be the worst subplot ever-The Vanquishers makes it clear. Why the trio travels around the world just for _a date_ ? What good that will do? They're just three humans stuck in 1900s. Even though that hologram message made before they got displaced in time, what is The Doctor want Yaz to achieve anyway? I initially thought Survivor should be a pure Doctor-lite for the sake of Yaz character development, but after the finale, I change my mind. This should be a companion-lite episode, or heck, probably both. Dedicate the entire thing for Grand Serpent-UNIT instead, with half of it is Kate Stewart goes Jason Bourne and building the resistance. Make that plot matters, because honestly, compared to 1904 or Tecteun, UNIT plot is the only thing that has a strand of logic in it.

Something people may not have picked up, though I think it probably should’ve been emphasised more, perhaps by seeing Tecteun watching it happen, after she tells the Doctor to stop trying to save the universe & the Doctor & Co return to the TARDIS, the Doctor says to Dan that she’ll find out who’s behind the Flux & what it’s got to do with her, ignoring Tecteun’s command to stop, so she without a doubt saw this happen as the Temple of Atropos belongs to Division so she could watch it from a security camera, then after sent the Weeping Angel extraction squad to bring the Doctor to Division in order to stop her.

Yes. Thats been bothering me the whole way through. Convinience, coincidence, and contrivance galore. She just came across the flux, then she only ended up at Atropos because Yaz randomly ended up there and then swarm ended up there at the same time and summoned the doctor. Then Whitaker only found Tecteun at all because she ran into the mouri thing? Somehow solved it? Then the only reason the angel shows up is because it was in the mouri thing (looking for the doctor)? And followed Yaz ... for some reason. This whole thing just Happened to whitaker and *Spoilers* Then she finally got the watch, we NEVER got anything from the watch we hadnt already seen ... which whitaker shouldnt have remembered; if her memories are trapped in it, then NOTHING in it should match memories she's already had. And then when she finally has the watch, Chibnall just CLAIMS that she's torn about it and she throws it away for later. Everything is for later; a twist doesnt matter, a twist's impact is entirely dependant on its CONSEQUENCE.

I feel like there's something kind of meta going on here about the nature of an untold story, but my thoughts on that are pretty fuzzy at this point and I'm not sure Chibnall's are any less so. Flux is a rollercoaster ride as far as I'm concerned and I've enjoyed every episode on a first viewing - including this one (maybe the third one a little less). Fundamentally none of it makes sense, but then a box can't be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, and maybe rollercoasters don't make much sense either. That's not to say that it's not valid to look for some kind of coherence, it's just that I figured from the first episode that this thing wasn't going to have any, and I'm fine with that. Possibly just being along for the ride has something to do with my feeling that we were never really told who The Grand Serpent was in the first place. Therefore his appearance in this episode was not really jarring; it was simply revealing things that we didn't know about the character and leaving us to piece those together. I did think that the first two UNIT people being killed felt like the same scene playing out twice, but I suppose that that was arguably the point being made. I'm not sure we know _now_ who TGS _is_ but we know what he represents, and it's not so much a time traveller as a constant.

This episode felt like it was two or three episodes crammed into one because it didn't develop any of the subplots well enough to make them interesting. I suppose this migth be the only time I ever get a reply from you so it migth be pertinent to elaborate (then again I've noticed most KZbinrs ignore me once I start going into vague details 😅). To explain what I mean it is as I'm sure you on some level know, total crap the way you 'breakdown' your preceived opposition. For one you'll note that they don't do It back at you, they if anything go out of their way not to name you and others, which just reflects badly on you as a speaker. You also insist on basing many of your arguements on inference. In your reaction to @HeelvsBabyface and @Nerdorotic reaction to flux ep1, you go on a whole tangent about how clearly their pause in relation to the disabled character of Diane, suggests that they don't think disabled people should have the job and what not. Except they don't say that, sure maybe they do think that but you can't be sure either way. That isn't journalism to rant about how there 'daring one another to say it' or to say that @bowlestrek almost definitely would of - that's just slander and inference with no evidence, other then they are people you dislike. In the case with the polition whom said a lack of male role-models causes a spike in crime, you acted like the media and twisted his words, even showing the clip before saying that he had posited 'doctor who causes crime' but he never said that. What he said is bad enough, what he said is stupid enough but you adding to it (the only rolemodel I remember from childhood was Elisabeth Sladen, rest her soul), warping it only lowers Your credibility. There was no need to exaggerate, it was bad enough as was but you did so anyway. Finally you have the classic of making a whole video where esseientally your gleeful that bowlstreak had a mental breakdown. In what world is that ok? So his views are problematic and go against yours, that's no reason to make a while video about the topic. The fact is I watched all of your channels and despite my views being nearer yours, over time I've come to respect bowlstreak, Az and Nerdorotics more then you - not becuase I agree with all they have to say but becuase they're actually somehow less petty. They rarely name other KZbinrs and Twitter mobers who've attacked them by name, despite in some cases putting up with it for upwards of 4 years. And for all that they are brash and potty-mouthed they are valid in expressing a dislike of trends. Meanwhile you infer and you stretch and twist - And by the end your videos feel more like those tabloid and channel 5 shows that get made every-time a member of the royal family falls down the stairs. Do you think this is how you win some sort of battle? To educate those you see as unenlightened? Have you ever considered that's it's content like yours that made bowlstreak and Co so extreme in the first place? That it's that sort of crap that pushes them from worried moderates into tired extremists who simply don't have the fortitude left to be polite. I 100% believe that stuff like this in all walks of life is just as damaging, if not more so then what Az, Nerdorotics and Bowlstreak do. At the end of the day, what do you think splits this fandom more - you and the TV show's own production mocking and villifing them, or them being upset and letting that colour their views? It is truely sad that I feel safer to express a view in their chat, knowing they won't mock or disregard me - then I do in yours. Tecteun was trying to kill the Doctor with the first Flux wave but the Doctor absorbed it with the Tardis. So Tecteun changed plans. That is when Tecteun tried to bribe her with her memories and the idea of keeping Earth from destruction. I truly enjoyed the series! I'm very happy that Bell and Vinder got their happy ending. The fates of Karvanista and Jericho gave the finale gravitas. Having three Doctors was a very cool idea. I'm glad that Yaz and Dan are still companions and of course very excited about that Master reference. I hope we get to find out what actually happened to Swarm and Azure. The scene between Azure and the Doctor in the finale was just chilling and excellently acted and the scene with the Doctor and Time was just so quintessentially Doctor Who.

@@MrTARDIS it's the Way you do it, if you asked once then fine, but the whole rolling hands and repeating "such as", that's where you come across as condescending.

@@nervosuss, I said it the way I did in this context because I was watching a video and knew that an answer/clarification wasn't coming. If I was actually in a discussion or debate I likely wouldn't do it like that, but I'd still ask for clarification or a follow-up if nothing was provided.

In the FASA Dr. Who role-playing game, they had a CIA, Celestrial Intervention Agency. Although the CIA worked for Gallifrey and Division seems to be independent. Seemingly indifferent to Gallifrey. If Division is a huge all-powerful organization, why do we only see Tecteun and a nameless Ood? Why were they so easily overrun by the Swarm?
