Pretty cool review of the place. I live by the brunswick, never stepped into Funland, as I could tell from the outside that the arcade machines weren’t going to be my bag, it’s a shame I was right. Daytona is basically its highest rated machine. I wish it was a proper gamers arcade, something that would do the past proud. Great video, mate! I enjoyed it!

Wow, at least the shifter on Daytona worked. Good job on finishing the Advanced track. I can tell you from owning a Scud Race 1P sit down cabinet (actually it's Lemans but same drive board) that the Daytona 1s are much more complex. The board cage is much bigger and the dashboard has two potentiometers, one of which controls the actual feedback, while the Model 3 cabs use only one pot that control both the feedback and the steering on the main PCB. I don't like the card swiping system because I always lose the cards after using them up. There's something very satisfying about putting a token in the cabinet and hearing the coin chime of these masterpieces. Oh well, at least the staff at the arcade gave you a free credit on the Jurassic Park. I can tell you here in USA they are priced just as bad.

Congrats on the Daytona win!! I agree, that payment system seems rather stupid. I'll take throwing some coins in or an entry fee/freeplay over that.

Heart of Gaming in Croydon has an 8 player Daytona setup, I think its the only one in Europe

Huh. Today I learned that GRID had its own Arcade release. MK Arcade GP 2 was a sight to see there, too. Honestly, one of the rare few instances where I envy England - they at least still have some spirit of the arcades left, even if it's mostly relegated to more modern games. Barely have that, over here. I'd assume the decimal-point pricing is the same old tactic most pay-to-win currency has had before; buy an amount, spend it, but then get left with what isn't enough to buy a single item with so you're looped into buying more.

I saw GRID (released by Sega in the arcade) in a ferry to Holland! Showdown (aka DiRT Showdown) also had an arcade version. As did some of the Need For Speed games and Ford Racing Full Blown, an arcade version of Ford Racing 3.

Looks okay, that stretched Daytona hurts my brain though, especially since it does support widescreen, though I wonder if it could be activated? Agree that the decimal system sounds pants. Other than that, looks like a nice little arcade.

@@swooperd Hrrrm, Y'know, I'm 99.9% certain that Daytona doesn't natively have a widescreen option (unlike Virtua Racing, where you can switch between 16:9 & 4:3 in the test menu), I think it's only achievable via emulation, so I don't think there's any way to get it into widescreen on the OG hardware here. Yeah, the payment system was shite, but other than that it's a nice little place.

@@AndersonHBecker likewise, I was the under the impression there was no link play flashing cars on original hardware and I'm also pretty sure there's no emulation going on, so I don't quite know what's occurring here.

@@MrThunderwing It's possible that it's normal and no one realized it until it started bothering us on M2emulator. It could have to do with the version of the Daytona or some other unknown factor that is favoring this flash. Then I'll try to see if the same thing happens in other videos.

No wonder the place was empty! That pricing system should be illegal, it's stealing, do that to 10,000 people and you get the picture! At least you got to hear Daytona USA as it was intended. The only way to make up for it at home is to have the sound up LOUD so the neighbours hear lol. 😜

I'm not a fan of ticket redemption games. A lot of those are little more than just spinning a wheel and getting whatever ticket amount it lands on - no skill involved at all. Since nobody makes CRTs or even 4:3 LCDs any more, replacing the monitors with wrong aspect ratio OLED screens seems to be a common occurrence. But at least it's still playable!
