Renji wants to remain under Byakuya and stay his lieutenant, because he respects him so much. In a flashback, Renji had a talk with Ikkaku about this long ago. Its the same reason why Ikkaku, despite learning Bankai long ago, doesent want to go for being a Captain, he wants to stay under Kenpachi, the man he respects.

With several lieutenants having bankai after the point Ikkaku said that, either having already had it or learned it shortly after it really shows what Ikkaku's problem was and why he would never be captain material. He didn't want promoted out from under Kenpachi but never considered just turning down the position, and he essentially lost his bankai forever out of his own stubbornness. When instead, showing his power level would have made him more qualified to take on the difficult fights he craved. He wouldn't have had to settle for only those Kenpachi deemed too weak to be worth fighting.

Rukia should be the obvious fan favorite new Captain but my personal new favorite is Lisa. Her dynamic with the other Vizard as well as being Kyoraku's former lieutenant gives her a lot of story to build off of. Her personality has also always been one of my favorites. Edit: and just on pure appearance her new Lieutenant looks very different from anyone else in the series so I am excited to see what she can do

Like she can't just be "healer but good" or "healer but attacks", those styles are taken by Orihime, and Hanataro respectively. She could have something like Unohanna's shikai for her bankai, taking on a manta-ray form, but working like Tsunade's slugs. Essentially being easy portable healers. It gives her healing a range and can work on multiple people at once, it reflects Unohanna's influence and by being small but always healing, reflects the dilligence we saw of her in the TYBW.

Let’s try not to talk sh*t about this group of captains being weak until we actually see them do something. It’s been ten years; that’s an eternity when it comes to power growth in Bleach. Look what Renji achieved in a few days during the Soul Society arc. But, part of me thinks it’s pointless to consider growth for the weaker characters anyway. In classic Kubo fashion, it’s gonna be the same handful of characters that get all the action and story. Kenpachi, Byakuya, Mayuri, Renji, Rukia, Toshiro, etc. Everyone else can just stay home.

One tidbid that wasn't mentioned, Iba's first lieuntant was the 4th Division's 3rd Seat Yasochika Iemura. Iba picked him for his medical abilities to help his individual training after becoming captain. He then transferred back with persuasion by Hanataro. Also found it weird how the 8th Division disappears the rest of the war, in TYBW anime, we do see their 3rd Seat, Tatsufusa Enjoji at Chojiro's funeral, wonder what he was doing in the war.

One thing that I really wish they would do with the hell arc is to let us know what is the status of the current leadership of the Kido Corps. Originally Tessai was captain and Hachigen was lieutenant. After both had left the soul society throughout the entirety of the series, we never became aware of who is the current captain and lieutenant of the Kido Corps. it would be something to see the both of them back at their posts or at least see who is running the squad now It’s interesting how they in a way, or like the squad 14 but we know little to nothing about them

@@kakashihatake1029 no it is still active because in episode 366 when Ichigo was taking Ginjo’s body back to the world of the living to be buried members of the Kido Corps were there and moving the body as well as setting up the portal back to the world of the living, which Ichigo passed through so I believe that the division is still active it’s just that we don’t know what’s going on with them right now or what its current leadership structure is and also I do think that they probably do somewhat autonomously from the Gotei 13

Idk Iba trained Ikkaku and Yumichika to be Kenpachi's senior seats, similar to how Ikkaku trained Renji. It's also implied he had Bankai aslong as Ikkaku though he never used it. (well he had to for the Captain test) but for us to see.

I agree, but I see the probable reason as to why Love is left behind: His Zanpakutō Tengumaru. Tengumaru is a Fire Type like Ryūjin Jakka, which would have just led to comparisons against Yamamoto. Iba and Rindo are an opportunity to do something new, but Love just invites comparison to the past.

Although several of the old gotei 13 captains and lieutenants have become much stronger, the newer captains have a lot to prove against the undead captains when the hell arc resumes. Isane, Lisa, and Iba didn’t really do much the entire series. We already know by this point rukia has mastered her new Bankai. I absolutely love Kubo’s new designs for these characters especially Byakuya. The new touches to Soi fon were cool too and I didn’t quite notice them. Izuru looks like a beast.

All of these new characters style and characteristics really put Kubo in different league of mangaka. Seriously , how on earth that he can makes bunch of characters much cooler than their previous style design even for those who now become parents like ichigo and renji. They all look awesome but at the same time still original by Kubo's design which make the readers can differentiate them from other manga or anime. Look at Isane , from an unconfident girl who in tallest-in-class trope , but now looking as happy-go-lucky pretty onee-san and a confident captain. They all have their own flair and readers can tell in a second "Yup, this is Bleach character"

The reason why Gin decided to join/kill Aizen is because Rangiku was born with a part of the soul king in her, and when Aizen made the Hogyoku attacked Rangiku and took the part of the soul king from her. Technically Rangiku should be much stronger since a part of her soul is missing, and it was supposed to be a plot point in TYBW but Kubo never got to it.

I hope Iba and Isane get some cool moments. Cause Iba's only fight I can remember was that friendly match with Ikkaku during Soul Society arc. These two as well as Chojiro are under utilised. Chojiro got done dirty, should have been the one to defeat Ayon when Ayon was whopping sll the lieutenants

I’m pretty confident in this version of the Gotei 13 mainly due to their heavy hitters. I’m a little concerned because they lack depth and a lot of the vice captains and some captains are on the weak side or we don’t know what they do. Overall if the Hell arc ever goes down it’ll be exciting to see the heavy hitters back in action

if kubo and the studio behind bleach decides to pursue the hell arc, i think they should go with CFYOW first. tokinada tsunayashiro is one hell of a villain to be skipped and also, all that happened in the CFYOW novel is the one that fills the gap that happened between then of TYBW and Hell Arc

I feel like Isane and Lisa got shortchanged in how little they were featured, but they weren't the only ones. Now that I hear you say it, seems like Kubo's go-to method for having shingami survive the war was to "kill them", zombify them, and then have Mayuri revive them. I didn't realize how many people that applied to until now. Don't really like it, personally. Some of them could have just died and been better off. Or at least it would have been more interesting to have new characters replace them.
