I tend to agree with your analysis here, wish she done more and appeared more in the series. Regarding her final appearance in the manga so far, I agree, Kubo still could have made her sensuous and sexy, but without losing her automony and purely making her a sex object. The bigger letdown I find though is that Yoruichi is dependant on Kisuke for technology and power-ups following the soul society arc. Previously her abilities and items where derived from her clan and herself. Why couldn't the Hierro Armor and Lightning cat power-up just be ancient Shihoin family relics and techniques for example? Another thing that interested me was that I totally forgot that Uryu shot Yoruichi, I can't imagine them being on friendly terms after that. Having said that, I wish Uryu played more of anti-hero role in general here, he could've been the one to hinder Ichigo during the soul king death scene, while Yhwach just stands there smirking. It would have made his role as a double agent feel more convincing and less of a convenience for the plot's sake. I suppose we'll see what the anime changes, keep and removes.

I actually have no problems with her role specifically, only that the one big battle she was in sometimes felt a bit rushed and like Kubo was trying to cram in as many combatants and new powers as fast as possible to try and get past Askin's defenses. Also, I honestly prefer Yuushiro to Soifon, even if he is too much of a siscon. I just cannot take Soifon seriously and am not a huge fan of her design.

I think it is quite interesting how Kubo parallels Kisuke and Aizen in the TYBW arc. Aizen in this arc is ultimately shown in a almost heroic light, being willing to help the Soul Reapers and even fight alongside Ichigo against a common enemy. While Kisuke is willing to sacrifice Ichigo and his group when he send them up the the Royal Palace, if that is what is needed to maintain the balance of the world. And he is even willing to use his childhood friend that has always been by his side, as a tool in order to secure a win, ignoring that Yoruichi did not want to be turned into that form. I quite like how the TYBW arc reinforces the idea that Kisuke really could be as evil as Aizen, he just luckily ended up having a somewhat stronger moral code then his rival.

I think another super important distinction with Urahara is the trust and faith he's built. People d9n't always like him or the things he does. But they know that if he makes a decision it's probably the best they have. Also I think it has way less to do with moral fibre and more that Urahara had friends and companions to connect and ground him while Aizen did not. Kinda like Kyoraku.

I dont think its all like that. Kisuke just takes everything into account. He didnt send Ichigo to the Royal Palace the 0 squad took him. Actually Kyoraku takes that role as we see it with "Killing" Unohana and talking to Ichigos friends saying what might happen to him. Also Kisuke used Yoruichi against Aizen sending her to do the hand to hand combat while we know he is good with that combat style as well. Not saying he cant be evil and there is a bit of parallel with Aizen but its not completely as you say. But we saw that evilness of Kisuke with what he did to Rukia. So it was a bit in the beggining. What i dont like is that Kubo made Yoruichi a great captain with awsome powers and still she never beat anyone in the whole show but Toshiro and some others had to win.

@@jurgenzaka4957 well she straight up embarrassed Soi Fon in that fight they had letting her think she was superior only to be outclassed with the fight ending in Soi Fon crying that she is still weak and that she wanted to leave with her. I recently re watched that arc so that scene was fresh in my mind. Other than that yeah it sucked that she didn't get a real fight. Like a actual challenge for her ending in her win. Not trying dunk on Soi Fon just wanted to point that out since that was a big L for Soi Fon and a W for Yoruichi. Especially with how much $**t she was talking up till the end with her giving up crying realizing she actually didn't stand much of a chance despite how strong she became since there last meeting.

I think yoruichi had a cool battle but definitely could have been utilized more especially since her brother got introduced. You could have had her fight in the first or second invasion against some sternritter. Kubo definitely had something planned because we never saw the shihoin weaponry yushiro brought along. I’m also curious to see an interaction between the flash goddess and lightning fast Tenjiro

Her role showed how Kisuke is perfectly willing to use even a longtime friend as a weapon while robbing her of her autonomy. In a way it's understandable why Yoruichi developed her kitty transformation ability under absolute secrecy by herself, it's believable that she did not want to become a Guinea pig for Kisuke's expierments.

@@manuelacosta9463 I think that shows that even as the person Kisuke seemingly cares about the most, Yoruichi is not exempt from being used as a tool, if he believes it is necessary. It does makes sense that even though it is implied that they have been intimately involved, neither of them are probably capable of maintaining such a ‘normal’ relationship. Still, they will probably always be tied together, given how much history and knowledge is shared between them.

It’s literally established in the yoruichi Vs soi fon fight. She’s basically full shunko which is why she can fight Askin 1v1

All the other times, she was naked by choice and it was during situations where she wasn't fighting. I wish they would have shown us Yoruichis zanpakuto in some form before the end of the series. Plus I personally like the Soi fon and Yoruichi idea against askin but I think Yoruichi and Orihime VS Askin would have made more sense since Orihime is the perfect Opposite of Askin when it comes to abilities and seeing orihime support yoruichi while they both go all out would have been incredible to see

I really hope the fight with Askin is longer, for both Yoruichi and Kisuke, especially Kisuke since he unleashes his badass bankai. I also hope they tone down the fanservice with Yoruichi as well, especially because it's clear that they're keeping the atmosphere relatively dark and serious with only a few comical scenes here and there.

Yoruichi gaining a semblance of control over her final Shunko Cat form would contradict her not really liking said form much less hates the idea of resorting to it. Because we know Yoruichi can be comfortable walking around naked just fine. So logically the reason she most likely hate said form is that she have no control whatsoever when assuming the cat form.

honestly my biggest issue with Yoruichi's cat form is the fact that her reiatsu changes 48 times per second bypassing Askin immunity building. Her losing her humanity is fine I guess, it kinda draws a parallel to Komamura using the humanification technique. You are absolutely right that soi fon should have been there, her Shikai is just perfect to deal with Askin and it would have given her an great moment where she actually deals with a significant threat with her shikai. Maybe have Soifon and Yushiro show up after Yoruichi's Raijin Senkei has proven to be ineffective against Askin.

What I found interesting about the choice of tools Yoruichi uses in the first assault is they seem to be a reference to both Soifon and to Kisuke, Soifon for the reasons you mentioned, while the wire trap and second application of the ball weapons resemble Kisuke's Shibari, Benihime, and Hiasobi, Benihime, Juzutsunagi that he used on Aizen (first trapping him in a net, and then detonating them with explosive balls of reiatsu).

Honestly i don't mind her cat form, sure it does seem like its purely for fanservice reasons but honestly the design is awesome (why cant it be awesome and sexy?), but i still think of her as a badass character and my fav character in bleach and it doesn't diminish my opinion of her, she can be sexy and awesome/badass at the same time, and honestly i don't think that anyone should allow it to sour their opinion of her as her being sexual has always been a part of her character since her true form reveal, i agree they could have done more with her and that her being forced into it by Kisuke is a bit off and i would have preferred she was hesitant to use it at the start but realised in the end she needs to try it or she risks her brother and friends lives and risks failing to save the world, maybe that's a change they might make so it feels less like Kisuke is a bad guy willing to abuse his best friend with something she really didn't want to do, but its war, you gotta do everything to win or die, something Yamamoto forgot and it cost him everything (or almost).

I feel like I'm mostly just gonna echo the same sentiments as you but oh well. I'm quite alright with her role in this arc, given how many characters there are in Bleach I wasn't really sure how prominent of a role she'd have when reading this week to week but she ended up getting a fair amount of screentime which was cool. We already knew that she had a good head on her shoulders but it was nice seeing that demonstrated in the little skirmish with Yhwach, also emphasizing the fact that she really knows her stuff when it comes to things related to kido. No complaints regarding that part. All the light hearted scenes she played a part in were great too, hoping most of them won't be cut in the anime but looking at the first cour I'm sure some of them will be. The biggest let down for me is definitely the latter parts of the Askin fight. Like you mentioned she seemed like she didn't really have an actual plan after getting injected with the drug as she just headed into her shunko again despite Askin having explained his ability to her, maybe she just gets stubborn like this when losing? The biggest problem I have with the cat form is that she loses her reasoning, I don't really mind the fanservice too much (she already fights in one of the most, if not the most titillating outfits in the show and she does it of her own volition so) but the forced entry into it and lack of reasoning just feels a bit wack. The changing reiatsu bit was also pretty funny since I don't know if there's any other time this type of thing would've come in handy. In the end that didn't even matter though, not that I was expecting her to take down a Schutzstaffel on her own. The Yuushirou bit kind of bugged me when I was reading it weekly since it felt like he was taking away precious battle screentime from Yoruichi, but after rereading it a couple times I'm okay with it (he's cute). There definitely should've been a scene or two in this arc where Yoruichi and Soi Fon interact, though. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we see them say a single thing to each other in the manga after the Soul Society arc. All in all I'm decently happy with what she got in this arc and I hope one day we can get more of her backstory, not holding out for that though.

I'm actually overall ok with Yoruichi in TYBW, in her fight against Askin she unveiled a slew of amazing abilities and fought her hardest. And yes while her beast form WAS incredibly fanservicey, it was still very powerful, had great abilities and was a fun callback to her turning into a cat in the soul society arc. Also, though it's been done before (and kinda in reverse in the case of Kumomura) the concept of sacrificing your SELF in exchange for power in desperate situations is still cool. The problem, the same as MOST of the problems in this arc, comes from her opponent. All those cool abilities and showy techniques kinda fall on their face when your opponents power is 'that didn't work because I said so'. Askin along with most of the quincy 'elite four' diminished most of the cool factor in their respective fights because they all had some variety of bullshit invincibility and no matter how strong and impressive a power is, it loses all its impact if it achieves fuck all.

My only issue was her agency being taken away by Kisuke in that weird way, I still don't get that call by Kubo and I wanted to see something involving her Zanpakutō The recent stuff on Kluboutside abou the cat form and potential connection to Beast Realm is an interesting wrinkle, that I hope to see explored.

I am and am not satisfied with her role if that makes sense. Seeing her be the de-facto leader of the team again was great for all the reasons mentioned in the video: she was quick-thinking, witty, showed off a bunch of new tools, and was very close to saving the entire world which was more than I thought we would get. I did not like the gigantic waste of utilizing Yushiro over Soifon. It felt like such an obvious play that would have tied up the dynamic of Yoruichi, Kisuke and Soifon up as nicely as it could've been. Soifon herself was desperately needing another moment to redeem herself from that joke of a fight with BG9. They didn't even need to win; they just needed to show off some cool combo techniques as master and student. Then the final mode felt like an extra slap in the face because it's just as Tommo said in the video-all that needed to be done was have her be in control and have her present less fan-servicey and it would have been fine. Kubo fumbled her hard at the end for pretty much no reason.

The whole Askin fight I was kinda disappointed by tbh. Yoruichi's inital lightning form is cool, but I feel like she just doesn't end up doing anything in the fight as a whole. I'd have much preferred if the final form were cu or re arranged a bit and have urahara and yoruichi fight askin together. Maybe have benihime constantly rearranging both their bodies to be immune to the poison?

Lots of people mark her as their favorite Female anime characters but honestly shes always been my favorite Black anime character irregardless of sex. I'm not sure why but even as a guy she kinda made me feel really confident about being Black in a way i never had before. I always felt like Black characters were always cool in a very inherently "American" way and it was incredibly refreshing to see a Black character that was just cool and interesting and much more complex than just some American that happened to move there so they behave and act in a very "American" way. Yorouchi has always been a very Japanese woman who just happened to be Black and i always loved that the color of her skin was a literal afterthought and just happenstance all while being one of the most gorgeous of the entire show.

not sure if she has african heritage as kubo's art depicts people from other races distinctively like Chad, Nimaiya, Tosen and some of the sternritters and arrancars. I think its more likely that yoruichi is probably okinawan, or brown skinned but that's just me. I'm happy that you are able to identify with a dark skinned character.

Using someone not getting along with someone else as an excuse to not have a really great and fan favorite character show up is pretty lame tbh. I don't mind the form but you don't create a very large personality type character, who is also designed to be a very strong type of character and then be like.. what if I just take all that away and do something completely uncharacterisic? Obviously that wasn't her choice but I equally don't buy into the whole Aizen/Urahara parallels people draw in that Urahara has that side to him, because as much as it is uncharacteristic of Yoruichi, I think it was uncharacteristic of him as well, even if it is a very Urahara type thing to do. Though it's still very clear he did need Askin weakened before he felt he could fight him (and still almost lost) so yes he very much did need Yoruichi. So overall I'm pretty certain if he just left the overly sexualized bits out, no one would have a problem with him going for the fitting catlike gimmick

This battle served a great purpose to keep a Quincy with unique abilities away from the core team. I understand the thought to make Yourichi unaware of her state of mine to let loose. Every great power must have a limitation. And Kisike's weakness was Yourichi.

I really like that Yoruichi is unorthodox and constantly developing new techniques. She is confident, deceptive and only enters combat with an ace up her sleeve, she is the real master of the onmitsukidou. She is not a strategist like Kisuke, but she is a good tactician. Its a shame we never saw her zanpakutou or kido capabilities, it feels like we only explored the base layers of the character. But that is exactly why giving her a bezerk form is so jarring, her forte is being quick witted rather than capricious.

You mentioned it being odd that Chad and Ganju were there. But to be fair... Ganju is not only Ichigo's cousin, but he and Kukaku are effectively the leaders of one of the great noble houses, so it's fitting that he'd be there. The odd ones out are Chad and Orihime. But if Kubo had given them more spotlight prior to this, it could be explained as Orihime representing the Hogyoku, and Chad being exemplary Fullbringer. That way, every faction (except for the beast clan) would eventually be involved, especially once Nel and Grimmjow got there, or if they freed Halibel.

I think I just found out something mind-blowing. Karin Kurosaki has the power to make a personal connection with the soul. While she has that connection, she can see that person's future and past memories. She uses this ability in epi 4 with Yuichi Shibata. I would love to know what the Master of everything Bleach thinks about this?

I fell like Yoruichi powers is more like near the original soul powers that existed before the shinigame are invented by soulsociety, like oetsu made it clear that shinigames only become a thing after the creation of asuchis, before it, it is a do whatever you can to gain power, some made weapons, some invented kido and some fighted like yoruich usingnhand to hand combat

I think she suffers the same as a lot of characters their efforts are rendered useless in the grand schemes of things. Even if yoruichi did more than byakuya did this arc it doesn't feel like it due to the pacing. Bleach is a manga that loves his side characters and that's why I compare black clover to bleach a lot just that black clover gives the side characters actions more impact as in bleach its mostly "you see them in a fight they get beat and the popular characters do everything themselves". One of the fight that showcased a good way for lesser characters involvement to have impact are nanao and nemu fights even if they are considered weak in the grand scheme of things their story arc helped defeated 2 major villains. But it's sad 85% of the cast was useless this whole arc especially when they have 24 capitain class enemies to face

I hated the way She was handled. I've always liked the idea of her and Kisuke having relationship more like Toshiro and Rangiku. I feel like Kisuke tends to suffocate her character when they do the flirty fanservice thing. She stops being cool, witty, and in control. I think that's what the problem is The Dynamic in their relationship has Kisuke positioned as the Dominant one.... But tonally that's not how his character works. He is way too laid back and taciturn of a Man for him depicted the way he is with Yoruichi. I love their relationship, but you can't sell me on the romance tho.

Yoruichi is hamstrung by the fact that Ichigo is the MC of Bleach, and also way weaker then Yoruichi meaning she has to be artificially held back to keep him relevant. She's a SOUL REAPER who never uses her Zanppakuto, shikai and bankai increase the users combat power many times over while potentially adding new abilities, meaning Yoruichi at the end was still only using a fraction of her full power. Sure, she developed shunko to replace shikai and her cat form is a stand in bankai, but Soifon showed us you can combine shunko with shikai, which means you can probably do it with bankai. Could she use her cat form and her bankai at the same time? Maybe, but then why would we need Ichigo if she can take all the big bads herself?

Zangetsu makes Ichigo vastly stronger and he's still not 5-10 stronger then Yoruichi though most, if not all, of the story. So yeah, her Zanpaktou would render him as the backup as she would be 5-10 times stronger and way more experienced.
