OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great movie! It should acclaimed a classic. Definitely the first time I've ever cried when the killer got shot at the end. I had a feeling I would love it when I saw it was based on a story by Graham Greene, one of the greatest authors ever. Kudos to the kitties too!

Make sure to watch "Johnny Come Lately" a 1943 film starring Cagney and Grace George in her only talking film. (She made 1 silent film and returned to her storied stage career) Although not directed by Cagney, or his brother Bill, it was one of his favorite films.

I don't see how this warranted the extra expense of VistaVision, but I enjoyed seeing the camera. Probably used on "Star Wars" later.

Georgann Johnson was channeling Doris Day. Johnson had voice, physical and character features similar to Miss Day.

I had the same impression. She had a very brief part in MIDNIGHT COWBOY, but I cannot recall her in anything else. Pleasant enough, no big carer? Time to GOOGLE.

I was never a big fan of Cagney's acting, it's interesting to see him as director. It was very cool at 1:02:22 how the flame gave cover as they ran past.

"This gun for hire" with Alan Ladd and of course Veronica Lake did already an excellent job with Graham Greene's book, not sure what added value Cagney was aiming at when he made this movie. The end result is an OK movie (6,5 to 7/10, a far cry from Gun for hire, which I would rate 9/10.

I thought that this movie looked Really Familiar! I get the impression that this was going to be a bigger-budget movie, but something happened. Several of the roles looked like they ought t have been played by bigger names. Joe Turkel OR Wendell Corey for Ivers. Doris day for Johnson. John Ireland OR Richard Conte for Biship. Ted De Corsia or Robert Middleton for Aubuchon. BTW, the only other movie I have seen Johnson in is MIDNIGHT COWBOY. A brief scene where Joe Buck tries to pick her up with the Statue of liberty line. I doubt if she had more than 40 seconds of screen time.

The leads don't really have a chemistry between them and also this film doesn't match the tension of the original. Glad you wanted to direct mr. Cagney, but , trying to remake a classic film which made superstars of the leads is asking too much. It's no wonder that this film is largely forgotten.
