Jimi Hendrix was blown away by Carlos Santana at Woodstock. He said he’s the best he ever heard. He’s still got it after all these decades. Someone asked him, “How can you play that music?” Santana replied, “I don’t play the music; the music plays me.”

Larry H. That’s true. 😂 He had been told it would be several hours (or possibly the next day) before he would be performing. He dropped the acid and, shortly after, was told he would be performing. He said he freaked out at first, and then thought, “Well, I can’t change it now.”

I know this is totally stupid, off topic, and not the same thing, but it reminded me of one of my dumbass moments of misunderstanding... I'd heard a commercial playing in the background for Trojan Bareskin Condoms a few years ago. I only heard it, so what my lizard brain heard was "Trojan BEARskin Condoms." I was like, "duuuuude, PETA's gonna be hella pissed now!" Then I saw the commercial. Oh. My bad. 🙃 But yeah, I don't think it's about a Black, Magic Woman either. I think it's about any woman, or a specific woman he's got in mind, who's got some Black Magic over him.

Saw Carlos open for Jeff Beck at Deer Creek in 95 after Jerry Garcia passed. Amazing show, everyone was hurting as was Carlos that knew Jerrry from the beginning. He had masterful control of the crowd, he saw the children and invited them onto the stage, all were given percussion instruments and put on the beat, was killer. Then he invited the women in the crowd that would like to dance on stage but his mellow voice kept chillin them out "a few at time, nobody rush...after a few turns make room for the other ladies" he's playing while he's speaking, audio valium his voice, it was amazing, the gals were dancing to the slow Latin Latin rythems like "whatever you say Carlos". Then he let us know we were at church, that church had no address, it isntbrick and mortar, "it's right here, right now" He told a personal story about Angel's, he had met one, that they were amongst us in the audience, then I heard the first notes of Amazing Grace, I turned to my brother "he's going to talk about Jerry" and he did. It was exactly what I needed, losing Jerry Garcia was painful, sad to see, he should still be playing making people smile, changing them. He sure as hell changed me fir the better, Miss you Jerry Garcia

This is a cover of an early FLEETWOOD MAC song. However, this has eclipsed all other versions and he has made it his own. At age 19, Carlos Santana burst onto the worldwide scene before 300,000 fans at WOODSTOCK in 1969 (there is a video of that). Thirty years later in1999 he won the Latin Grammy Award for his song SMOOTH. There are 2 videos of that on youtube. Carlos does not sing. The leader of the group MATCHBOX 20, Rob Thomas, sings on this one. He is the Godfather of Latin Rock.

Icon. He taught me so much listening to him. He rarely plays it the exact same way twice. He feels it. You have to let go and just ride the "All Mighty Groove" . In star wars they call it the force, others call it religion. Guitarists can physically feel it through their fingers, and some singers can feel it in their throats.

Santana performed at the famous Woodstock music festival in 1969. I believe it was the first large audience they ever played for - in other words, this is when the nation as a whole first heard their playing. Their album "Abraxas" in 1970 was one of the most successful albums of the year. Also, the young man playing the drums here (his first name is Billy) had the distinction of being the youngest performer at Woodstock. He had just turned 20 a few weeks earlier.

Two of the greatest guitarists on earth pushing each other to their limits, then past the limits. Singer-keyboardist Gregg Rollie and rhythm guitarist Neil Schon (you barely catch sight of him at the beginning of the vid, he's the guy with the huge 'fro wearing a brown T-shirt) left Santana a few years later and started their own band: Journey.

Santana is the epic band featuring master Mexican/American guitarist Carlos Santana; the band had its massive breakthrough at Woodstock. His distinct guitar sound and their fusion of rock'n'roll and Latin Jazz flavors is just FIRE. Been listening to this artist and band for 35+ years and it's on par with Led Zeppelin in terms of me being energized and excited, more ALIVE after every listening. Carlos Santana = a CLASSIC!

My favourite Santana is Samba Pa Ti (The studio version from the Abraxas album). The re-invented Santana is also great on Smooth, Maria Maria and most tracks from the album Supernatural.

"soul sacrifice" live at woodstock is their best, and good shots of the crowd too. it was their coming out party. audience members later recalled" for a few minutes after they announced santana next, we were goin to try to find food or a bathroom. then the music started and we all knew who santana was"

More than 40 yesrs by so much. I first heard him when i was 18 in Daly City CA. S.F. Bay Area at a party with some friends who were Latino.. they introduced us to the music of Santana. Well known in that area long Before Woodstock.

I call that guitar face. Like black and other reactors get stank face or involuntary Headbanging. You’re exactly right! It’s when you are DEEP into it. It’s from the soul.

The guitar player IS Carlos Santana. I love Santana. His bands all have fantastic percussion sections, and an organ (at least they always had an organ in the old days). That Latin sound is just intoxicating. And Carlos plays awesome.

About closing your eyes while playing guitar: As long as you have good muscle memory to intuitively know where your frets and strings are, sometimes it's easier to concentrate on your playing if you close your eyes and tune everything out, especially when you're on stage with lots of distractions. Also, that song that you recognize Santana's name from is "Maria, Maria" feat. The Product G&B.

I'm a white guy from Iceland and let me tell you ... I am about as square as square can be ... but ... there is no other band like Santana in my opinion ... with every song ... they reach out and thrust their hands into my chest ... they grab my heart and pump it a few times ... and then they make me want to dance and sing. I love Santana and am old enough to use the words "Since For Ever!"

Carlos Santana has been playing music since he was 8 years old. He is one of the best in the world in my book. I am 62 and have been playing Santana music since the mid 60s. He gave an AWESOME performance at woodstock: He has played with alot of other artists. DMX, MARY ROB THOMAS. And a number of others. He is a very very gifted artist. Thank you very much for playing this song. I am 62 years old and i love all kinds of music. I really like a lot of the newer groups. I enjoy Disturbed . THE SOUND OF SILENCE. As well as A REASON TO FIGHT. And Down With The Sickness. Are all very good.. The group BAD WOLFS SONG ZOMBIE IS AWESOME. A LOT better than the original version. I wish the radio station that i do listen to would play more of the newer groups. I love old time ROCK N ROLL. BUT ITS VERY BORING HEARING THE SAME THING'S DAY AFTER DAY. THANKS AGAIN
