I remembered buying this on PSP and being so excited.. Medievil is my favorite game for sure and I just wanted to see Sir Dan again.

Still prefer the original, it was way creepier, subtle and not as goofy. Plus Dan was brave the joke was that he sucked, he was first to charge and also first to die.

(4 years late I know) It's also reflected by how Daniel looked when he was alive : in the original game, even though we never actually get to see his face before his death, he was described as having thick black hair, a piercing gaze and a square, manly jaw. In the remake, however, he has that goofy face with weird hair and a chin so small it looks like he never had a jaw to begin with.

Before anyone says anything, I have played the original 2 games on PS1. But I actually like this remake. As a launch title for the PSP I thought it was quite good. Tom Baker's voice work was amazing.

I do really like this narrator. But I still prefer the original game. Had a tone and sense of humour I enjoyed more. And I did play the PSP game first. The PS4 remake looks like the best version yet, though I might have preferred Tom Baker as the narrator. Wait, I just realised something. Why are the residents of the village asleep in this opening cutscene in this remake? Zarok just turned it to night. That made more sense when it wasn't set during the day.

The moment Dan got up, the gargoyles started mocking him about how much of a failure he was and how he would still fail in which Dan responded with, "I'll show you!" In Resurrection, he was cowering the second the genie mentioned Zarok. To me, that makes a big difference.

I think this is one of the most brilliant parts of the original game. Dan has always WANTED to be a hero, but was not. The whole game was about becoming a hero, and that is a powerful mechanic to entice a player to explore and enjoy. The hunt for chalices was entirely because you wanted to be a hero, and that was the way to it.

This was made by a (mostly) new team. Only a few of the original members from Medievil 1 and 2, such as the concept artist, soundtrack composers, and voice-actors, worked on this game. And they made it clear that this was a re-imagining of the first game, not a sequel.

While I don't care for all the changes they made, some of them I do like. I like some of the wit the gargoyle has; although it's interesting that they change the word it to he in his speech pattern. I don't care for the Arabian worm. I liked the silent worm Dan had in the old game a little more. The animation, while not as spooky, is a bit more lively at parts. The wizard is much more animated. The music is a good take on the original. It's nice to hear the music done by an orchestra.

***** How is it a better version of the original when, in fact, it is almost nothing like the original game? The only things Resurrection has in common with MediEvil 1 are the character names, plot premise, and SOME of the levels, music, and enemies being inspired by the first game. Everything else is completely different. The art direction and the level design has little to no resemblance to the original game, the story and gameplay are altered to the point where they only vaguely resemble that of the original, and half of the soundtrack is different. Also, both in terms of design and personality, almost all the characters have no resemblance to their counterparts from the first game. The developers of MediEvil: Resurrection flat-out said that their whole intention was to separate the game from the PS1 original as much as possible, and it really shows. I have never understood how anyone could see the two games as being even remotely the same.

Actually, Jason Wilson and Chris Sorrell were the old character and story designers, and neither of them were allowed to have any direct involvement with this game. Mitch Phillips, who was the character animator for the first 2 games, became Lead Artist for this game, and he was the only key member to return. Of course, they also had Bob and Barn ( the old soundtrack composers) and a couple other minor guys, but that was it. Everyone else on the team was new.

The LEGEND said he led the charges. In both versions it's said that Sir Daniel's role in the War for Gallowmere was heavily exaggerated, being the very first casualty and all that. So for all we know he very well COULD have been in the back tying his boot when that first arrow was struck.

Honestly, I've never played Resurrection, I've only played Medievil 1 and 2 on the Playstation. I notice this game has gotten a lot of hate because of the differences in style. I can agree that this one seems to be more outright comedic than the first (the beginning cutscene with Zarok taking the souls of the townspeople, the scrolling text at the beginning, etc) which I might not personally be a fan of, but it is what it is. Hell, it looks like fun to me. Only thing I really dislike so far is the new design for the gargoyles, not sure what went wrong there, but I digress.

This is an amazing PSP game, easily one of my favorites. I highly recommend playing it at 333 mhz (if you have a custom firmware). Plays way smoother that way.

I Knew the other medievil games were a big hit but i had never gave them a go.. but when i got this on my PSP i loved every min of it ..the music the gameplay and the humar was fantastic....just played and played cause i was soo hooked i wanted to see the end =D

Personally, I prefer the darker tone of the original. It had humor, but it wasn't trying too hard to get a laugh like this game. It's like if Ocarina of Time was remade with the style of the old Zelda cartoon. That, and the dialogue in the original game didn't drag on. This is the first couple of cutscenes and already I want everyone to just shut up.

From what I understand, Cambridge Studio actually had an idea for a new MediEvil on the PS Move but they couldn't go with it because it of Deadmund's Quest being developed at the time and was too similar to it.

I would like to argue that MediEvil was never really creepy. It just had a creepy atmosphere. Something this one doesn't do all that well. The only two things I don't like on top of my head are the frame rate outdoors and Al-Zalam.

He was the first to charge into battle, the first to die, but as soon as he got his chance to redeem himself he jumped at the option, like, immidiately. One of the Gargoyles at the entrance mocks him for not living up to legend and his first response is "I'll show you" before he charges off right after Zarock. You take that away he's not likeable in the slightest, fuck the Genie for stealing all of his redeeming qualities and then making a mockery out of him.

So yeah, big Vita lover here. The thing deserves all the love it can get and I think the title would be a great fit for the system, if anything it'd have to be made for the PS4 at this point. I'm not too sure it'd compare with the Uncharteds and Killzones of that system, it'd be much easier to truly revive the series on the Vita at the lower pricepoint. Not too sure if it could be a hit at $60, I certainly won't ever pay that much for a game again. 3:

That does not mean it was the same team from the PS1. This game was created by a different team within Cambridge Studio. Only about 4 of the original members were directly involved with Resurrection, and only 1 of them was a key lead. Think of Devil May Cry 1 and 2; both games were created by completely different teams under within Capcom. Same idea with MediEvil 1 and Resurrection; both games created by separate teams within the same studio.

In the original, Dan wasn't a coward. He really did lead the charge, he was just unlucky enough to be the first one to die. Could have happened to anyone.And when Zarok came back, he didn't hesitate. He grabbed a sword and went to finish what he started. They screwed him over in this.

While Sir Daniel's story was certainly largely exaggerated, it should be noted that, in the flashback at the start of the original MediEvil, he is featured leading the charge, not staying behind, in the battle when he was struck by the arrow.
