another one that hasn't been mentioned in this video was relatively recently they found a type of bacteria that produces electrical currents via humidity, the reason this is great is because weather will not be a reliant factor, it will run 24/7 and because its only humidity it requires you can build vertically instead of horizontally meaning they can be constructed in cities and will use less land to power things, the downside of it so far is that it produces insanely low power, however solar was inn the same spot when it was first discovered, you also have shopping bags being made from fish scales recently made from a university student meaning all the scales and fish waste can actually be useful. another company has made "pod" like biomes for fish farms to take them out at sea which reduces the acid in the waters for nearby local reefs which will allow the reefs to grow back slowly along with providing a whole new feeding location further out at sea for other smaller species of shrimps, plankton and small fish. that pavement you saw that generates power is currently in the process for road work also so the cars on roads will also power the problem they are currently facing is durability for sudden breaks AKA if a car crash or sudden break stop happens, it rips the panels up, once they find a way to solve this issue then the cars will also generate this power. there is aloooot more also out there but these are a few that interested me, theres alot going positive its just media prefer to cover the negative so you have to really look for it

The issue with plastic roads is micro-plastic - or almost invisible plastic particles then then end up everywhere and are the reason you can find microplastic in everything (including food and our bodies). Already paint used to mark road lanes is a source of it - making the whole road plastic would drastically increase the micro plastics problem apparently. So yeah, many of these things aren't really a solution but a step towards one. By exploring options, and any problems or solutions that may come out of these options we might find a real solution.

to be fair though, asphalt can take up to 300 years to "decompose" and that will also produce small particles. at least with this its being used from another source, but as you say its stepping the right direction, they also found bacteria that can create power using humidity and is currently being invested into, as this means u can build vertically not horizontally saving more space from being torn down and it has a 24/7 up time as apposed to solar which is during day and wind turbines dependant on winds

that self sustaining home would be a great camper trailer! especially if it is being hauled by an electric vehicle as the solar panels and windmill would also help charge the truck and the truck would have its own solar panels to both charge the truck and power the camper. or it could have a basic gas/diesel truck (for example a 2018 dodge ram 3500 dually which has a 6.7l turbo diesel which could haul it no problem as thats what duallied pickup trucks are for, hauing stuff) where it wont be as enviromentaly friendly but the truck could still have solar panels and wont lose any power charging the truck and since its more modern it wont be as hard on gas edit: the wind from driving the self sustaining home around would spool up the wind turbine so it can charge as you drive.

@felipeferreira005 ай бұрын
As much as it seems cool, sadly this ain't happening anytime soon. Because, not only do transparent things inherently make solar energy not work efficiently (because, well, you need to absorb that energy, not let it pass through), but also, would you really want to leave your phone out in the sun? The only major problem with the plastic roads at this time is that, especially highways, they need to turn nicely and be able to have constant pressure no matter the circumstances, plus the nice thing about asphalt is that when bits fall off, they are just rocks and can be easily filled, however the plastic roads would be very useful for sidewalks as we don’t weigh enough to break off bits of it making it extremely viable
@SkylarsTerribleMemes2 жыл бұрын
easy fix, just stop driving literally everywhere. less highways, less cars, less pollution. i hate how dependent we've become on cars. (united states at least, apparently other countries actually care about public transit) anyway, i would be concerned about the plastic leaching into the soil but iirc that happens with asphalt too, idk which one is worse though.
@yeetuslefetus14432 жыл бұрын
@@SkylarsTerribleMemes it’s cheaper to travel by car than by plane long distance, people travel further than just inner city especially in smaller towns, and the plastic would still wear down comparably quicker still than asphalt while producing an equal amount of pollution leading to more overall, plus plastic isn’t as good for compressive forces as asphalt meaning it can crack and considering that they are wanting to run pipes and suck underneath they are hollow meaning they can even more easily create potholes that are bigger and more time consuming to repair

@SkylarsTerribleMemes2 жыл бұрын
@@yeetuslefetus1443 in an ideal world, city to city travel would be by high speed rail. and in plenty of countries, that's already a thing. hell, some small towns in the us owe their entire existence to a train that once stopped there. cars and planes are only cheaper because they're subsidized. and yeah, plastic for roads would suck, but it's a great idea for sidewalks and bike lanes - pedestrians and bicycles cause exponentially less wear to the surface they tread on

Making fabric from plastic can actually accelerate the damage that plastic pollution does, because it makes it into small fibres which can enter waterways untraced and are extremely difficult to extract from the ocean as they degrade quickly into smaller and smaller pieces, then eventually harmful chemicals.
