My only beef is how hard it is to fix the surface book. Thinking long term ownership I think the Lenovo is a better option.
@jasonc47426 жыл бұрын
yes but it's also worth considering that people who get the yoga/surface book tend to do a bit more than just productivity work on basic applications like an IDE or Word. A lot of them are likely going to be doing things related to graphic designs and maybe some editing, which means they do have to keep up with the specs as opposed to keeping a machine for a decade.

The SB is my dream laptop apart from the following: 1) Too many people complaining about issues after first year of ownership. 2) Repairability. 3) Lack of Thunderbolt. 4) Price. If only one of the mainstream OEMs pickup the 3:2 hi res display. I guess I'll keep waiting.

A year and a half ago I got the first gen SB i7 dGPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD.... I did have a couple of big issues, however microsoft solved them over the phone... I also got an AC Charger replacement because my original wasn't charging my phone properly (over the USB port)... and the replacement was of higher wattage (102W over 65W) Windows still have some issues, but to be honest, this has been the best machine I have had... and I would get the new SB2 if I got a chance... The lack of thunderbolt is sad, but it is definitely not dealbreaker for me... the SB2 delivers a lot and the port is not utilized by the vast majority of people....

A lot of people say they want TB3 but I wonder if the average user even needs or uses one when they have one. The designer and enthusiast that wants multiple 4K displays is one thing but the normal consumer? Probably not?
@maythesciencebewithyou6 жыл бұрын
Millicente yeah I really don't get those people. They are just parroting each other, and there are some anti-microsoft trolls between them. The eGPU thing is also stupid as even TB3 doesn't have the needed bandwidth and those are stupily expensive. And if you just want full speed external SSD then TB1 is more than enough
@mohammadislam23246 жыл бұрын
yeah i got an sb 2 15 inch, the gpu takes care of everything i need and i dont need tb3 at all, could care less about two 4k monitors i cant afford.(blew all my money on the laptop alone. worth it tho.)
@itsyeaboi53336 жыл бұрын
you have to think about this also in terms of price point, the surface book decked normally would cost you over 2000$, if im spending 2 grand sure as hell id want all the features i could get from other laptops and not because of some shoehorned reason to buy their dock. the horizons for tb3 potential is far and wide, as is technology like gpus. the next generation could very well see 30% increases in performance across the board, having tb3 allows you to adapt - not deemphasizing not just for gpus but also other technology perhaps fast tb external drives, or those 4k monitors, or misc technology

That might make sense if the SB2 was for an "average consumer"

Also recharging rate is amazing, 15 seconds charging for 100 minutes use, I heard. And X1 Yoga's think shutter is a plus for me too. Although you can't have Windows hello facial recognition with Think shutter, I like how it keeps private when you shut the camera, which also mute micro phone at same time. I would buy the surface book 2 if it came in black. I never understood why companies don't include a black color option for their products, it makes no sense consider the amount of customers they would gain. Another thing I realized is, why aren't there any good long digitizer pen nibs? As an artist when I am doing any kind of sketching work I hold my pencil differently than as I would for writing. I hold it loosely and at the end of the pen, I so far have not seen a single company incorporate the ability to track strokes made that way.

It seemed and felt durable when handling device... But equally much that bulge will get put under stress from things around device. Also in case of smaller books they might cause bending stresses to display, which gets support only from hinge and other edge. Really have to wonder how MS couldn't make flatter bending hinge. Maybe they didn't want keys to touch display surface? Though X1 Yoga's keys depressing into body also solves that.

Ok, I know that this question might look like it come out of nowhere but I had been trying to solve this issue on my own for days without luck. Here goes, Playing games on an OC CPU (7820HK), looking from the Riva tuner monitoring app, my CPU is not running at it's Max boost all the time (OC to 4.0GHz) In games it fluctuated between 3.5-3.9. However, when I did a stress test with Prime95, it was able to maintained max boost for as long as I test it. My first initial thought was that Games does not utilize 100% cpu usage so with Intel SpeedStep the CPU itself underclocked to 3.5GHz. But after I have seen some Benchmarks, It's shown that the CPU max boost of the owner was running at full clock speed all the time! 5.0Ghz+ + Now I wonder why mine is not achieving that CPU clock speed while in game. 1.) My rigg is AW17R4, 7820HK, 1080GTX (repaste, repad, reshim) 2.) There was no Thermal or any Power limit issues (monitored by HWinfo64 and XTU) 3.) Gaming for several hours at ultra max temps are at only CPU 78 GPU 72 PCH 85 4.) AVX are disabled 5.) It never throttle, It just cant reach it OC speed To recap, There's really nothing holding back the CPU to reach Max speed in Gaming, the Temp was low, the PL was set sky-high. No limits are reach confirmed by the monitoring programs. If anybody can help me I would be really appreciated, and sorry for my bad English

HOTDOG Thunderbolt, the HDR Screen, and you can use it as an emergency sledgehammer without having to worry to much. It's also way cheaper, at least here in Germany. It's always plugged in when you work on it though. That's a big deal.

So with the Surface Book 2 you will forever have to play with a capped 1060, while in the ThinkPad Yoga X1 you can even use a GTX1080ti eGPU together with the six 4GHz cores
@robgoren86286 жыл бұрын
Can't I just connect an eGPU through the Thunderbolt port if I want to run, say, Maya or play demanding games?
@yourviewer69746 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can

Which will cost you $400+ (GPU NOT included). And the bandwidth of TB3 isn't good enough to make full use of GPU above GTX 1060
