Ms180c with 28 inch bar

Stihl ms180c chainsaw with 28" bar and off the roll 3/8 .050 picco chain. Cutting 25" sappy pine log.
This is a modified saw doing this just for fun. I highly recommend NOT running a stock saw that small with a bar that long because it will damage the internal components in a hurry. Contact info: [e-mail] I do offer my services to the public.

A small mount bar with that length is hard to find and I don't think they make them anymore. Holes and slots can be drilled into any bar that has the right tail size matching a saws bar plate. Make sure the oil and adjustment holes line up when you're doing it. A saw this small should never be fitted with a bar and chain like what you see here. This was only for demonstration purpose and the saw wouldn't last very long if you put it to work. I highly recommend NOT installing a bar and chain this long on a saw like this. The clutch would get smoked and melt the entire pto side. It will ruin your saw.

It's not that your punishing the 180c when 180c sold it comes with 14" bar it will handle 18" bar I have one on my 180c But I'm not gaining any usable length from teeth at case to bar tip, So I'm going to 20" or 25" bar chain So I can cut larger piece wood.

18 years ago I did a theoretical calculation to prove this works. Now that I know "slightly more" I wouldn't recommend it unless : a. you DON'T cut with the whole length of the bar eg.ZigZag cutting b. there is extra chain oil for lubrication eg.vertical Alaskan saw milling c.1 you stay away from dense dry hardwood & c.2 nails, imbedded wire etc. d. DON'T ram the bumper spikes in AND apply keen leverage e. you keep clear of the line the chain would follow IF/WHEN the chain snaps (due to the new ratio of the chain 'length' versus the length from the chain 'catcher to the end of the rear hand guard' ) . f. Keep the revs up !!

Hi Jim I recently bought a 3/8 bar chain for my stihl 261 but recognize I need to change our my rim sprocket...not sure yet if I'll need to change out the drum to match whatever sprocket I end up with but anyways could you suggest to me what to get. I currently have a .325 rim sprocket which wouldn't work well with the 3/8 25" bar and full skip chain I bought

The 3/8 low profile sprocket on the bar matched the picco. I didn't change anything.

@@nelsfreeman7465Today's Stihl dealers only know the current Stihl catalog. The saw parts compatibility knowledge base is limited to older shops and saw enthusiasts. Anything made of metal can be modified to fit if you're determined enough. Holes can be drilled, slots can be lengthened or widened...even welded narrower. Why people think they should install a bar this long on a saw this small is beyond me. I only did it to make a video. One more cut and all the plastic around the clutch would have melted.

@@no.step.on.snek.2423 Mine is ported and the muffler is an ironhorse pipe that works within the pressure wave that pulls like a supercharger. I been milling with it. Thanks Der Guy.
