Love that muffler! Wish WCS would make one for the 194T. Great vid Rich.

The early Husky 40cc top handles, they stopped short of going out to 16 inch bars (yes, Oregon 16 inch mini 3/8 pitch chain, in 1,1mm or .043 inch kerf was around, . . . and the 16 inch bar and chain length can be a test for pro saws to pull). I think I just returned to 14 inch as a good enough compromise. My hunch is, that these top handles that were mini 3/8 are being retrofitted now with the new sprocket and drum for mini .325 chain. And in fairness I think mini .325 pitch is a relatively new thing, everyone is doing it with some kind of chisel design of their own. But from 2022 on, the Husky top handles shipped new with these 16 inch bars and mini .325 pitch chains. So 16 inch bars on top handles, which were never main stream are becoming more so. As for the power head itself that now has to pull chain around that 16 inch bar, that's really the issue. One may have plenty speed to one's chain, but does one have chain pulling capability in a top handled tool? For example, I alternate a lot between a Husky 585 and 372 saw. The longer I alternate between them I appreciate the reality that a good 372 has chain speed, less the chain pulling power (which can be a good thing, it doesn't take too much wood away too quickly). Sometimes that's what you want. A 585 on the other hand feels the exact opposite. Fuel doesn't last as long, and it burns more fuel to produce plenty of chain pull. But you lose that sensation of being on a very fast saw, that I get with a 372 (and I think it's a fundamental law of physics thing, where the piston weight of the 372 saw just enables it to get more lively in the cut). The 585 engine by contrast, never accelerates much, but conversely doesn't drop chain speed below a certain floor. It pulls the chain through timber with more consistent. A top handle saw, I feel can give you chain speed at times, but like the 372, . . I like the lightness of weight, the acceleration, the attitude. But my experience with 16 inch bars and chains thus far, has led me to reduce the lengths of those loops back down to 14 inch size. I like the aspiration to go up to sixteen inches with top handles, but I wonder if it's the right platform yet for 16 inch bars and chain.

Awesome video Rich, I talked to Gordy the other day and said how good you can crank a 440, I know you don’t do work for people you don’t know so I reached out to Jason Egan, His backlog is march, I’m not comfortable with porting yet. You are the best dude on KZbin, Great info always Keep it up man

Stihl Picco 1/4" my preferred setup on MS200/MS201. Lighter bar and chain, less chain oil required for 1/4"pitch and less mess from wood chips and dust.

I've kicked around trying heavier clutch springs in falling saws to act as a kind of high stall torque converter. Never made it any further than having the idea tho

Thanks for the video Rich, and to be honest I think the Stihl chain was just a bit quicker. Hard to tell because it looked like you were dogged in pretty good with the Oregon combo. Not sure what conditions it would take to make one “better” than the other, they are about as close as you can get. I don’t run 16” on my 193T, there is a point of diminishing returns I think because I use it mainly to limb and cut no bigger than 8-10” wood. Running a 16” bar may be helpful for climbing but I mainly do bucket and ground work with the versatile little saw that is lighter than my other saws, and I can control the branches better. The narrow kerf design should do better, and perhaps if it had a rim sprocket to change out you could get some more speed. That worked well for me on my 261C, not ported and screaming with the .325 on a 20”. Take care and wear those ear muffs, you wont regret to with those open mufflers.

Yes sir a nice little ripper! So was that the 200 clutch you installed on that?? And i have the WCS muffler on my 201, been very happy. Got an email from WCS saying there have been issues with some of the mufflers - cracking i think- but like everything Gord sells he stands behind it and will replace if defective. Anyway thanks for the demo on the speedcut, have to try that setup soon!

Had the pipe for a couple of months, well made as you would expect from WCS and certainly runs cooler i believe but it's flipping loud. Great video as always.

Thanks. Good content. I like the WC muffler. I’ve got one and it’s performing good so far. It is loud! Just got a Nano setup on a 2511…haven’t cut with it yet. They seem to be the rave for top handles.

Best bar and chain ive found is archer. I run 3/8 by .043 full chisle non saftey. Stihl bar is a little better performer, but being a carver bar style i throw to many chain.
@tonymiles31065 күн бұрын
Opinions on chains are a little bit like opinions on 2 stroke oils, people will swear by one brand knowing that another is better. The Stihl 33rs chain is a great performer but is out of my price range, I tried the Dukes hard chrome chains and am very impressed for the price of them. It is hard to go wrong with Oregon tho.

I keep eyeballing the Nano Speedcut stuff for my little MS170 - which I love. But, as you sort of indicated, I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze - for me; both in terms of the initial purchase cost and having to then deal with a special snowflake chain. And it's not like I'm cutting huge stuff with the MS170. So, neat idea, but I'm still passing on this.

I was told that those saws new, that you start it on choke and hold the throttle hard for 30 seconds to let the autotune do its thing. That saw must have went though that, or was i told wrong?
