I agree. I just picked one up, today and it runs like a dream. It took almost 1.5 hours to go through the first tank, mostly at idle. The second tank took a little less because I was cutting oak biscuits with it. I went through 8 to 10 dried oak like it was butter. On the 2nd tank after a four hour cool down, it started on one pull from the start position. I haven't got it into any standing wood, yet, but I do not make a saw fully operational until after its 3rd tank. I did not cut anything with the first tank and just let it run at idle with an occasional run up to clean the plug off. On the 2nd tank I let it cut a little bit and then back to idle for a while and then back for some more cutting. I tried to keep it below 10,000 under load but it may have gotten that high on a couple of cuts. I am very pleased with it and it's mtronic system seems to be a little better than that on my ms 261 cm.

Just found one of these on the shelf at my local Stihl dealer. Fantastic saw and starts and performs flawlessly. Sad to see it’s no longer made.

In my experience, a standard .325 chain cuts quite a bit faster than the pico chain, at least in larger wood (say 14" diameter), the pico just feels like it's clogging up, that's my guess at least, it also stretches much quicker ime.

Good review. Looks like a great saw. Currently running at £800 GBP Stihl RRP in UK.

Use one of these. Worth mentioning that its a real fuel miser. Ran it all day on less than 3ltrs

7:30 may I ask if the bar mount is beveled on one side, or square cut? I'm chasing down a bar oil leak issue (the oiler hole is sticking a little above the mount, previous owner abused the saw with a loose chain)

Stihl's smallest "pro" saw... lots of good stuff in it... and yet they went cheap and put a spur sprocket on it instead of a rim sprocket... sometimes Stihl does weird stuff like this....

👍👍👍 How long is this bar? 16 or 18”?

Would you prefer this over a 1 pound ligher 35cc 2018 MS-201C-EM for limbing?
@hixnada82784 жыл бұрын
Matthew Arnold if you are only limbing, the rear-handle 201 is definitely lighter and easier to work with. However, if you’re like me and you need only one saw for everything, the 241 is simply the best all around saw I have ever found.
@em47034 жыл бұрын
@@hixnada8278 The 261 is the better all arounder, the extra torque and power-to-weight (261 1.6kg/kw vs 241 2kg/kw) of the 50cc is welcomed and the 1lb more weight isn't important unless you're climbing trees or cutting shoulder height for hours. If you really need a TRULY light saw, a 261 coupled with a cordless electric with a top handle (like Husky T540i - powerhead 5.5LB!!!) cover all areas of a farm/household duties.
@piciu2563 жыл бұрын
@@em4703 not unless you don't need any more power, the 241 pulls 18" bar in softwood easily, and is much lighter than a bigger saw.

How do you like m tronic? Do you think it's any good? Do you think it's going to last? I'm looking into the ms260/261 maybe with m tronic. How are the new caps working? I heard some things about them not being good but Stihl fixing them. What do you think about them?
@GoFastGator10 жыл бұрын
Flippy caps are a love it or hate it item. Unfortunately, if you hate 'em, you don't have a choice on a new Stihl unless you buy a very small saw or a 660. There have been no mechanical issues with the caps on saws. It is possible to break one but only with force. The 261 is only available with m-tronic now. You might find the old version on a shelf somewhere still but no need to search one of those out. I own two m-tronic machines currently (261 and my 441) Every new saw I buy from here out will be an m-tronic or AutoTune saw.
@hixnada82784 жыл бұрын
The m-tronic is amazing. It’s reliable and in the case of a problem is very simple and cheap to replace. Dealer told me the part is about $30 and can be replaced in a few minutes. With that said it’s supposedly dead-nuts reliable.
@em47034 жыл бұрын
M-Tronic is amazing in its ease-of-use, and seems to be reliable. How will it last on the long run? I doubt it lasts any less than a regular carb, oxidation is the main enemy, the electronics in the M-Tronic are very simple and rugged. I bought a 05.2020 made MS 261 with a regular carb (but the new slimmed down weight of half a lb like the M-Ts), simply because I love the ability to thinker with it more.

Why has the 241 only got one nut, but the 261 has two?
@GoFastGator3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that it was done to keep the handling characteristics of the saw. The 241 also uses the smaller 3005 bar mount where the 261 uses the 3003 mount. I will say the 241 was remarkably nimble in the hands compared to my 261.

Also can you put a second falling spike on the ms 260/261
@GoFastGator10 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to finish drilling the holes but the locations are marked on the inside of the cover.
