This works as we all just saw, but you can order the parts out of a 461 and install them without any mods. I did that on my 362 and 400, works great. And yes, they both needed it. 1 tank of fuel = 3/4 tank of oil which is how I like it.

Thank you, yes, everyone is aware that you can swap oilers, and for some that is the way to go. The point for the video is for those with the ability to do it themselves, and not have to spend the $$ on new parts. It’s really a simple mod to do. I personally prefer to do things myself, but, to each his own. I can honestly say, with this mod, both of my 400’s will oil a 42” bar & chain with no issue (and the pull the 42” like a champ as well). I started doing this mod on the larger saws to run longer bars, and for people who needed the extra oil for milling. Once I saw how minimal the oil flow was on the 400’s I had to modify them too. 👍🏼 thx again for commenting, saw safe!

Thanks bud, I'm considering getting a 400 when a grand falls in my lap. Any way to mod the ms291 oiler? I'm runnin a 28" bar and want a bit more oil.

get the 400! you will not regret it! a muffler mod and 6 tanks to break it in and it is a beast of a saw! I have a 28" sugi lightweight on one of mine & a 25" tsumura ultralight on the other one, both running square filed chain. As far as the oiler on your 291, I personally have not tried anything with that oiler as it is a polymer frame and although I'm sure it works similarly, I'm not sure if it can be modded. The next time one comes across my workbench i will certainly take a good look at it though! Be careful with that 28" bar on that little 291 clammy. Those saws generate a lot of heat to begin with, it wont take much for that 28" bar & chain to punish that saw. Sorry i couldn't be more help! Subscribe & stay tuned to the channel for more info. Good luck & Saw Safe!

@@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Thanks Kirk! I really appreciate your response! I'm already subscribed and will share your channel. After tinkering a bit with my 291, I found my new hobby and may be a little obsessed. I installed a universal muffler mod, felling dogs, and a foam air filter from Westcoast saws. Then I punched out the carb limiters and drilled the oiler hole on my stihl light bar. Not all bars are equal as far as the oiling hole and the stihl light is way too small. Thanks EPA!! I'm thinking about getting a black label tsumara premium light bar when available. Do you prefer sugi or tsumura? I've heard the sugi is thinner and that helps with cuts.

@@tomsmith4484 Wow! You definitely have the bug just like the rest of us do🤣🤣 As far as my favorite lightweight bars, Stihl es light is my top pick, then husqvarna x-tough light, then sugi & tsumura. I have a video on all of my lightweight bars if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXyZg4p5mL2gedksi=9ss0oWvyhy3HW8AJ and yes to the oil port. A lot of bars have very small oil ports and they clog easily. I end up opening up most of mine. Hope you like the video on the lightweight bars👍

I switched to Tsumura bars and they oil much more than the Stihl bars. I run a 25 on my 400 btw and I agree, get one if you can. It’ll weigh about the same as your 291 and have a lot more power. 362 and 400’s have much better anti-vibe if that matters to you.
