You have the patience of a saint and the skills,of a surgeon! Nice work, great video!

I loved your comment about the tools you use for soldering - asbestos fingers, magnifying glass and plenty of filing. That's exactly what I use for soldering - plus an extensive range of swear words. Nice one!

I’m about to attempt my very first MSE O gauge signal so your video has been extremely useful, thank you !

Lots of space in O gauge! Shouldn't be too difficult to get lights in 👍👍👍

Absolutely fantastic. Really like the signal bounce and love the shot at the end of the video with the working crossing gates and signal. My soldering skills definitely are not good enough for a kit like this but it sure has given me the signalling bug👍.

Patrick, i have started assembly of Several MSE kits, they are great fun to build and look really good. My soldering skills before comencing the build of the kits was limited to tinning the ends of dropper wires etc. you will require a range of tools, small drill bits, souldering irons, pin vice, different melting point solders, a good flux makes life easier.maginfiying lamp, needle files, centre punch etc and patience. give it a go and you will be pleasantly suprised. Using solder is like using super glue that you can re do if you are not happy. I made a couple of jigs out of timber to make assembly easier which has worked for me.

The level x is fantastic. I'm just getting started in model railway and in the process of laying track it's painfully slow, as each section needs to be as accurate as is humanly possible. 🇮🇪🇪🇺 Retired Craftsman IR

Great job. Would have been easier with a finer tip and finer solder. But you have done it brilliantly.

Yeah! I know it looked a bit off with the big tip, but my smaller soldering iron tip wouldn't produce enough heat!!

@@Wallsrail just a suggestion, I work in electronics. We always use a decent 50 watt iron (Weller), and traditional magnastat bits. That size iron has good heat capacity so you can heat material quickly even with a finer tip. I must get round to doing a soldering video on my channel that may help others. Using multicore solder like you did is the way to go though, forget nasty additional flux it's not necessary. . Not being critical , but you can see the brass isn't getting hot enough by how it doesn't wick on the larger pieces. Just my two penneth. I find soldering parts together always a pleasure.

@@gs425 I may have said elsewhere, I by no means profess to be an expert and only consider my skills average! I know enough to get by. Yes I need a new iron 👍

@@Wallsrail No. Your skills are way more than average, and you make cracking videos. Always good to listen to. If you can afford it, the iron of choice are the Weller TCP irons. They have been the industry standard since long before I first picked one up in anger at polytechnic nearly 40 years ago. Because it's the actual tip that controls the temperature they are very stable. Bits are easy to come by in a multitude of shapes and last ages anyway. Always use with a slightly damp sponge as supplied to wipe dross off each time you pick it up. Furthermore changing to a higher or lower temperature just means swapping bit. The temperature number is stamped on the back. They work on the Curie effect incidentally.

Excellent video! Subscribed. “Asbestos fingers” are a hazard but, one day, having a wander around “Hobby Craft” I happened upon some silicone finger stoles. What an absolutely fantastic product. I now need some additional ones as they really are superb. They are “dayglo” pink. Level Crossing...... please can you expand on its construction? Best wishes, Robert

Many thanks for this video Wallsrail, it's really made it much clearer for mr and I'm now looking forward to building some, rather than apprehensive! Do you have any suggestions to making a gantry semaphores work?
@Wallsrail
@Wallsrail 2 жыл бұрын
Gantries, had mixed outcomes on these 😯 Will be doing a video on them sometime as I have a couple to build!! Suggest making the least joints/angles as possible and making sure those that you have have little to no resistance. Thanks 👍
