The most important thing is that the FPS is equal to or higher than the refresh rate of the Headset. Everything else is eye candy, which entices customers, which you don't really have time for and can't see if you fly IFR, read maps, communicate with ATC. I would be very happy if the graphics remained at the same level as MSFS 2020 and the FPS in VR is at least close to the refresh rate of the Headset (72Hz for Pimax), i.e. DFR + QuadView. Leave the eye candy for 2D and optional for VR.
@lurchilurch55072 ай бұрын
@@bornag8549 Not quite, you either want fps being half the refresh or, ideally obviously, locked to the refresh. Everything else causes stutters or judders
@itsPastaNova2 ай бұрын
Not really. Minimum requirement for a smooth experience even with high refresh headsets like the Index usually always starts at 45 FPS. Your main concern with VR performance is consistency and optimal frame buffering. A 120FPS experience that constantly stutters and has frame drops will always appear worse than a stable 45 FPS experience.
@bornag85492 ай бұрын
@@lurchilurch5507 Yes , but if I lock at half FPS i have still stutters in cockpit (for exp. buttons in panels ), outside look is OK. When is unlocked it is 40-52, it is less but noticeably. I have used to it. It is the same in MSFS and DCS, but in DCS I can achieve FPS=refresh rate.
@bornag85492 ай бұрын
@@itsPastaNova I agree , because of that I have set refresh rate on 72Hz. It is excelent for DCS, maybe I have try for MSFS refresh rate of 90Hz and lock on half. Before cca 7-8 month I have try it but I was not satisfied, I will check again. Perhaps, I have set some parameter wrong. 120 Hz with today's hardware is unreal. Nice and honest appraisal of your experience. Despite the improved visuals I still see many of the flaws that have plagued the 2020 version. Tiling you mention, but also (not necessarily seen here) some terrain morphing, LOD issues, roads under water, bad ATC and so on. People expecting all the 2020 flaws to be ironed out may be disappointed, this is more like the old FSX acceleration pack to me but we will see.
@theVRpilot2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I have said a few times, the load times are worth it alone lol. While yes there are imperfections the sim is significantly better. I agree not all 2020 issues will be ironed out and we might get a few new ones, but I think we are going in the right direction. Additionally having the improved overhead with DX12 and MT support will allow for more folks to have better experiences, so win win. Also I wonder how caching an area will work....
@Muckylittleme2 ай бұрын
@@theVRpilot I would hold fire on load times. Firstly this has only been tested with a few players on a localised server, not hundreds of thousands. Second it has no add-ons, MFS 2020 loads pretty quick with an empty community folder but let's see. Yes full DX 12 support from the ground up will make a big difference graphically along with the implementation of ray tracing. Terrain scattering with procedural objects will also add tot he immersion when landing and taking off or flying very low. It is obviously going to be an improvement on 2020 but I would still have likes to have seen many more advancements for the price of a new triple A game over the 2020 version. AI traffic is better represented but still looks bugged, ATC is still a waste of time. Terrain morphing is still a visual blight along with tiling and LOD issues and so on. It is nice to see some living world improvements but the most obvious and important is still AWOL, trains. It looks like it is going to take several patches before it is really in Beta state but that was the case for 2020 too. Personally I will wait and see how 2020 looks after the next big update that comes with the 2024 release and some more information on what is going to be improved in the near term with 2024 along with reviews. I understand the hype, that is why I am here watching all the 2024 content I get but I'm too old not to keep my feet on the ground. II truly hope the extra polish the release version gets irons out some the show issues and the series goes from strength to strength - that's win/win for me.
@theVRpilot2 ай бұрын
@@Muckylittleme Hmm, yes there is plenty to be seen of course, but load times are simply going to be faster based on the multithreaded CPU support alone. But as you said, community folders might have an impact and we will have to wait and see. I would bet more on a release that does have bugs than an extra polished release. I can't quite see them launch with minimal to no issues across the board despite the vast improvements on software and hardware support. There aren't a lot of tiles I play on PC, this is my main go to for me the updates are definitely enough to make the jump but I hope to see better support for VR. I look forward to seeing how we fair in 6 and 12 months from now. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
@Muckylittleme2 ай бұрын
@@theVRpilot I don't think optimised multithreading will be a big factor in load times. It is more about how fast the streaming is and how quick your hardware can read/write data as most modern CPU's that can run MFS won't be a bottleneck for initial loads. However it may be important while flying in how quick it can send draw data being streamed in to the GPU. That will be interesting and to see whether the extra cache on the Ryzen 3D chips is still an advantage. It willy come down to whether the data being streamed in on load is faster than your hardware could load it in off a local drive and that may depend on the lad on the servers. It is all speculation for now but interesting to discuss. Yes flight sim is my goto too sow e are on the same team, just looking at it from different perspectives. For sure there will be issues on release, that is expected, it is about how quickly they patch them and add missing content and in that regard I feel fairly positive. Roll on November 19th! Not bad at all for a quick plug and play. I'm sure with some time and tweaking, it would be good. I am a little worried though. VR in msfs would have been pretty smooth in a area like that then get more stutter in and around cities. MSFS 24 looks not so smooth even the less crowded areas. Maybe the pimax was running at native resolution lol. Yeah i'm sure it would have been much better if you could dig into the PC and do the normal VR stuff

LOL, crying about split screen? By the comments in all my videos plenty of people are excited for both SINGLE display and yes as you mentioned controllers, no I did not mention them as my time was limited for interviews.

Whats amazingly interesting, is that you experienced fairly good performance on the crystal, without knowing the following: 1. In game settings (ultra, high or medium)? 2. LOD and TLOD setting. 3. What anti alaising (TAA/DLSS etc). 4. What refresh rate and headset settings I am not looking for you answer these unknowns. I just find it amazing that the game ran even half decently!! Unbelieavble in ran at all. Surely this shows promise?! We all know how hard it is to get stable decent performance with VR. It speaks loud and clear that 2024 must surely be really well optimised considering you tweaked and knew nothing about modes/settings etc. Thoughts?

I think you nailed it. Someone implied in a previous video that FPS was under NDA or something and the truth is nothing was off limits to ask, record or check out. While I was a bit worried I was losing time setting up VR, I did not want to make it worst by trying to tweak it and lose even more time. Overall we can see the experience was good with room for improvement. I think we are all going to enjoy multithreaded support and DX12! I trust with time the experience for VR users will smooth out even more! But for months we had to try to make our PC hardware and software match a terribly unoptimized MSFS 2020. I was grateful for it, but many folks struggle to get decent performance if they didn't have powerful rigs and or lower resolution and graphics way low.

@@theVRpilot Nice reply, thank you mate. So can i just confirm, that you had no knowledge of either LOD/TLOD/In game settings/Headset HZ mode/FPS in game/Headset resolution? If this is so, you should make another video, solely speaking about this. It would make an incredible video. A real teaser. If thats the case, it is MIND BLOWING that you had fairly good performance!!

Looks like we'll have to wait till 11/19 to test it for ourselves. I understand that they invited you and you can't be rude but your review is tasteless like all the 2024 reviews I've seen. No comments about specs, resolution, if you're using the Crystal in native, openxr, nothing... It's a shame.

Great comment. Yes testing it for yourself will be the best way to determine exactly what you are looking for. This is not a tasteless review, this is a mere tasteless preview of the flight. The first and only VR flight I took. It as short, fast and I jumped into 2D to check out other aspects of the sim. It took Khoi, the MS employee roughly 30 minutes to get the hardware and software installed and then I jumped into this flight. I do not currently own a Pimax Headset, I did not check any settings, and believe it or not as theVRpilot I call myself I did not check any resolution or even the hardware the PC was on. I did not have an FPS counter and also failed to ask many questions the community has asked below, many of which I have added to my list. I should have done all that and did not. I have tried best to explain my over all experience and share it with you guys in lieu of not having a full technical breakdown of the software and details you mentioned. Microsoft / XBOX made only one request of me, Do not brake the NDA. I had no restriction on what I could say or not say or what I could talk about. They even said, you do NOT have to make content. I am here sharing my Xp. I had a great opportunity to go check out the sim and I covered it the best I know how, maybe a more technical preview might have been better. But I planned to buy this game regardless of this invite and share my passion for aviation, flight simulation and virtual reality. Your criticism is fair as I did got get deep into it, and I will cover those when I get a Pimax Crystal Light, understand how the software works and can give proper feedback. If anything I hope folks understand the sim is running better thanks to the new architecture changes and while it isn't perfect I am excited and give my first preview, which is pre alpha a big hecks yes. Some in the community are skeptical and I get that. Thanks for watching my tasteless video lol and I appreciate the feedback.

@@theVRpilot It's not a great comment from me, I know. It hurts to receive points of view that oppose ours. I expose myself on social media and I also have a KZbin channel exclusively in Spanish about this simulator and virtual reality. You can search for Primashock VR. What strongly catches my attention, is the fact that you were invited to an exclusive event and none of the KZbinrs who have had the chance to try the 2024 simulator have spoken in a technical or professional manner. I'm saying all of this because those of us passionate about virtual reality tend to have a very technical and technological focus on things. Not knowing the resolution, not asking about settings, performance, and so on, is really a shame for me. That's it, it's nothing personal. It's simply about not receiving the kind of information most of us were expecting, and instead just getting a simple video (like all the ones out there) of someone playing a new game that, if we weren't informed, we might not even be able to tell whether it's the 2020 or the 2024 version.

Fk this game. After 200 hours of optimized videos, upscalers, fov changes....ms2020 was dog shit set a fire in VR. Not falling for it twice. Sorry

Brooo, you downloaded the wrong game. You got Microsoft Settings Simulator 2020 lol. I feel you man, you aren't alone. This truly isn't your fault. MSFS 2020 was poorly optimized and a ran terrible when it came to VR. Not having Multithreaded support and a mediocre DX 12 meant that if you didn't have a powerful PC, sacrifice a kitten, get bipartisan approval from congress, align the moons and stars, and wear your favorite underwear your VR performance was hit or miss!!!! I got tired of chasing and making tutorials and trying to figure out the special combination, not to mention I have 9k folks here and an active Facebook group of 10,500 focused on MSFS VR only, and everyday I read your same story or, "How do I get the best FPS". A few things... Each of us has such a wide variation of software and hardware that guides helped some and likely hurt others. Some things were good across the board, but in the end from everything I have seen, MSFS 2020 was truly the "Will it run Crysis Meme" of this gaming generation. I would ask that consider game pass for a month and try MSFS 2024 that way. I think you might be hooked. The performance boost alone, and quick load times is so refreshing I genuinely want to jump in. So many days I want to fly and I set a timer, and man it takes me 7 minutes before I am in the cockpit, in VR and flying. Why? That's nuts. If you decided to try 2024 it, join my discord in the profile and DM me and I'll help you out!
