In modern gliders the "spoilers" are called airbrakes. Also, they are not used to "slow" the glider down. Pitch attitude is used to control speed. The airbrakes are used to increase rate of decent. At least that is how we teach it.

I'm converting to the DG1001E NEO and programming my HOTAS system, I needed control of the airbrakes, so initially programmed Button 3 as a toggle. Crude but effective. My preferred approach is a standard circuit with 100 Km/H on final, nose pointing to threshhold. Much better to have incremental airbrakes, so I programmed the [ key to increase (think of a hand catching airflow) and ] to decrease - analog control of airspeed like a throttle. Hold the 100 Km/H to short finals, move to max airbrakes and round out and land as usual. Thanks for the guide - lots of useful tips.

2:08 Just to clarify that spoilers/airbrakes in a glider aren't primarily used to slow you down; that's done using the elevator. Spoilers are used to increase your rate of descent, by 'spoiling ' the lift over a section of the wing.

Wow, I'll have to have a go at that. I am a glider (sailplane) instructor here in Australia. It will be very interesting to see ho close it is to real. Actually, I should say I was an instructor, before a horrible accident, but I still remember my favourite activity in the world like I flew yesterday. The config guide is awesome of you! Thanks for this... is there any way of backing up controller profiles to a seperate drive, just in case MS muck something up with an update!... has happened once before and is hell of a job setting them all back up again. Were would I go hunting for my controller profile config files?

Can you tell what the settings were for Location, Time, Date and Airport when you recorded the video? I want to recreate the sunset for a flying experience. Airport seems to be Lugano, ....
