In today’s short video I want to show you a quick demo flight using the latest Nvidia driver version 517.48, and I must say it is very good news in my opinion. This driver has been optimized for MSFS and despite some of the complaints it has been getting, I find it to be really good and reliable on my PC.

I recently tried this and it works like magic In PC mode DLSS is set to quality In VR mode use TAA Then in open XR toolkit resolution set to 75% using FSR In preset mode It is magical at the moment Dx11 by the way

I'm also preferring FSR in VR because it doesn't "blur" the digital panels, especially numbers like the airspeed value and engine RPM on the G1000Nxi. Sure the far away visuals arent as super crisp as DLSS. But in motion you cant tell anyways... Upscaling via OTK is awesome!

Greatly appreciated. With all of the changes, a description of all settings would be very useful. I do see artefacts caused by foveated rendering, is there any way to dial those out ? I use the Reverb G2 and my hardware is the same as yours e.g. RTX3080.

For the one day I had on the new driver, I have to say between this, SU10, the Fenix update and DLSS the sim has never run smoother. I could even dial up the LODs a bit more! Unfortunately it was short lived though as my Reverb then promptly died (both lenses blinking on and off in sequence) and I’m waiting for a repair with HP 😢. Have gone back to the Quest 2 for a bit and erm.. wow, I’d forgotten the difference. Back down with the LOD and other settings then lol.

I reinstalled my windows. Played msfs2020 in my reverb g2 v2. I got 45 fps. I activate open xr toolkit and it open xr and it plummeted to 19fps. How is that possible. I exited them and I'm still stuck at 19 fps. Not sure what happened. Totally gutted. Any ideas?

Been using DLSS/Quality in VR with DX11 and been getting an average of 10fps more than I did on SU9 (45ish fps with maybe an 8fps momentary spike or drop in either direction) with no motion reprojection. This is with 100% scale in both the game and the OpenXR toolkit. With DX12 I have trouble getting above 30fps with the same settings. 3800X3D, 32GB RAM, 3080 12GB, Win 11, Reverb G2.

Can't fly VR in DX12. Using a HP Reverb G2. Crashes my system when I try to launch VR. Had to go back to DX11. With DLSS, I get a weird flapping effect. If I go outside the plane and nod my head up and down, it looks like the wings are flapping like a bird. Only goes away if I go back to TAA. Kind of a bummer. I have a high end system with a 3090 and 64GB of RAM. Feel like I shouldn't be having these kind of problems.

With win10 and Quest 2 (Air Link) this driver produced more latency and more lost frames, hence some stuttering. Rolled back to previous 516.94 and all’s well again. Used DDU in safe mode to uninstall before switching drivers. I should add that I don’t currently have msfs installed. I plan to reinstall it after next month’s 40th anniversary update (finally with stock heli’s!). My results are based on xp11/12 and Aerofly fs2/4.

@@VoicelessScream Actually, after reinstalling msfs I gotta say this new driver works very well. Air Link is ok with this but I've needed to drop the bitrate down to 80mbps Dynamic or I get stutters. Still looks fine though. A bit better with Link at 500mbps bitrate of course, lol!

Have to agree fully. Between the new driver, DLSS and being able to finally use DX12 it has made an incredible difference with my system's performance.

I use in VR DX 12 and Limit the Frames to 32 with DLSS Quality Mode and Open XR Tool - i Never get a better performance - all on ultra with a 3090/12900 k in a g2 - and No MR Thx Chris

When I update to 517.48 gives me less frames in fps games it's capped at 60

Not great, since new Win11 Update and New Nvidea driver. VR for me is stuttering and not playable no more. 3080ti,i9, M2 SSD. Sad

Try disabling the HolographicShell tracer. It fixed performance for me after Win11 22H2. It seems Nvidia still haven't fixed it in their drivers. Each PC reboot requires the workaround to be performed.

@@Drmerlin604 “Computer Management → System Tools → Performance → Data Collector Sets → Event Trace Sessions. In this list, find HolographicShell, right click, and choose ‘Stop’.”

Thanks for the review. For me with the Quest 2-Virtual Desktop-SteamVR combination, the winner flat down is Windows 11 22H2 with DX12, it's all about the efficiency and the frame timings. 40-50 FPS+, 80Hz, with (MSFS) motion reprojection. This at least for a mediocre RTX3070Ti and a modest Ryzen 5 3600. Smooth, sharp, balanced and immersive. Try it and see, we all know it varies from system to system, but who knows. Strictly VR and only sightseeing and exploration, Icon A5 lowandslow, and Vertigo the canyon swooper, (the latter with relaxed settings). Don't forget, when switching from DX11 to DX12 or back, always delete your rolling cache and also in Disk Cleanup delete the DirectX Shader Cache, just to be on the safe side. First time usage may result in some crash or CTD but subsequent sessions after PC restart are OK.

Update open XR toolkit to 1.2 the old version will crash launching vr in dx12.

No - it doesn't work great!!! It STINKS to be honest with you and it's NOT NVIDIA, it's ASOBO!!!!
