In today’s video, I showcase how well my RTX 3080 GPU along with my HP Reverb G2 are running in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

I am noticing some very good performance using both TAA and DLSS antialiasing options in a variety of aircraft and locations. As I mention in my settings video, I use both options depending on what I am flying and whether I am after more details inside the cockpit or out. I explain this in more depth in that video, so do check it out if you are interested in learning more.
What I notice the most about the VR performance I am getting lately is that there seems to be more headroom available depending on my settings. I am not sure if it is linked to update 11, but the sim generally tends to be running really smoothly in both VR and flatscreen modes.

I'm using the HP Reverb G2 with an RTX 3070 and I'm very satisfied with the performance in SU11. Back when I bought the G2 a bit over 12 months ago I set Customised Render Scale to 80 in Open XR Tools (not toolkit) as I found this gave me better performance for what I thought wasn't too much sacrifice in visual quality. And this was kind of set-and-forget until a couple of days ago I put it back up to 100 to see how it would perform, and I was stunned in the visual improvement, it looks more 'real' and with hardly any perceptible loss of performance! I guess this is due to DLSS. I do still have scaling set to 80 in the sim as I find that does impact performance if I turn it up any higher. I am keeping an eye on the prices of the 4080 though. They've already come down a couple hundred dollars here in Australia, and I'm hoping I might be able to pick up a boxing day bargain! :)

Nice video :) I tried a Reverb G2v2 and was disappointed with the clarity of the instruments and the small sweet-spot, tried every combination of setting with the best being TAA but then the views suffered. In the end I returned the G2 and fitted triple monitors as a good second option over VR.

Thanks for your video! I am using a 3080 card and a G2. Sometimes it really good, however my issues I think are related to fluctuating internet speeds.

Thanks again for the video. It's all well and good seeing these videos about 4090 cards, but hardly anyone can afford them, so it's important that you and others cater for the rest of us. I have a similar setup to you and find myself constantly struggling to get the best and smoothest performance. As is so often the case after an upgrade, I find it takes several days for things to settle down. What I should say is that we shouldn't underestimate the power of the OpenXR toolkit. I find that it does make a difference but you need to check the settings. Perhaps it's just me but I think it's easy to mess them up and before long you need to do a reset and start again. Which is what I did and it made a big difference.

I am currently using the HP Reverb G2 v2 with an RTX 3080. CPU is a older i7 9800K. MSFS2020 VR performance is actually pretty good. DCS VR performance is excellent. I am considering upgrading the system hardware to an i9 12900K, as the prices are dropping on the 12th Gen processors.

I run an overclocked i7-11700K under a NH-D15, 32GB of 3766GHz RAM (in Gear1) and a 3080 Ti (ROG STRIX) with a Quest 2, fast gen4 boot SSD and MSFS on a fast gen3 SSD. DX12 as it's the smoothest normally on my system, Rebar enabled (in BIOS and via Nvidia inspector). Was getting amazing performance in SU10 but getting a bit of stutter in SU11. Gets worse over time (not overheating) especially while flying over built up areas. I've had to remove my NYC and Vegas scenery add-on's as they're almost unflyable with any aircraft now.

Glad you're having a great time in VR. I'm still using the G2 but on the look out for a better headset. Experience in the HP Reverb G2 is still fantastic, colours are great, resolution great, comfort great (I use the VRCovers thin facial padding and it increases comfort and FoV) so not in a rush to upgrade. I've had my RTX 13900K/4090 system for a month now moving from a 2080 Ti and it's been absolutely magical. The 2080 Ti was good, but my PC did chuck out a lot of heat, I get none of that in the 4090, I think the cooling on these cards are over-the-top and it's absolutely not a problem, actually it is a problem because it's cold in the UK, I was hoping I'd get more heat from the case LOL! 4090 settings briefly OpenXR Tools 120% rendering with automatic reprojection enabled. Sim settings on Ultra with DLSS Quality, incredible experience and pretty clear in the headset too. I would definately recommend you upgrade to a 4090 as soon as humanly possible, it's absolutely fantastic!

Was the 4090 worth the extra cash though? My 3080 already gives me a mindblowing VR experience, high frame rates, very high and ultra settings on the things that matter, raymarching on and about £1000 less spent, just asking.

@@davidlawrence2778 yeah I guess it depends on your current experience. For me personally yes coming from a 2080 Ti. Put it this way, VR Flight Sim Guy had no intention of buying a new system having owned a 3090, but one weekend with loaned 4090 and he felt he had to buy the system. The experience is amazing but if you already are happy then it's a lot of extra cash and to be honest, experience in desktop games hasn't really changed.

my system is an Intel 12th gen I7-12700, RTX 3080Ti, Z650 motherboard, DDR4 64gb Ram, 100W gold Pwr supply and air cooler for the chip and the Reverb G2 V2. I tried a Pimax 8K which i did not like, have gone back and forth with settings for the G2 and still get some fluttering and stutters when in heavy scenery like London or NYC.I would not use MSFS if it were only flat screen flying, with the VR it is as close to real as it gets. It is just frustrating that we are expected to be computer experts to get and keep the thing running at its best!

Not satisfied with DLSS, so prefer TAA. Have high settings and very happy with performance in VR. I9 10900k with 3090.

Agreed, I have a 3080 on an i9 cpu with HP Reverb G2, the performance is absolutley mindblowing. I recently had to reinstall windows and all my software and it took a while to work out why my VR was suddenly so bad. Turned out to be entirely down to settings in Nvidia Control panel which were making the CPU do too much work with the GPU hardly doing anything! Once sorted VR has been superb. I no longer use Open Xr toolkit. etc One query I do have is, why have I never seen any improvement using motion reprojection, all it ever does is reduce the quality, also I'm only allowed the 'depth' option not 'motion and depth'. That said, unless it does something amazing I don't have the need for it. One other thing, why do people complain so much about Asobo? MSFS 20 is truly amazing both in and out of VR. @@daplatt1 Hi, it may seem a bit obvious but it was the setting in Nvidia where you assign settings to Microsoft Flight Simulator. My windows and Nvidia driver defaulted to 'let Windows decide' the Open GL Rendering GPU. It appeared to be choosing the cpu instead of the graphics card. I changed that by selecting the RTX 3080. Once applied all my frame rates increased. i get a comfortable 37-8 fpm with a mixture of high and ultra settings in the sim.

I've just built a PC with 3090 for VR, currently using my son's quest 2, spent hours tweaking settings but still not totally happy with what I'm getting, but i do think I'd get better with reverb G2 instead.

How does everyone feel about sharpening? I have a Rift S and I love the open XR toolkit 100% sharpening. There's also an AMD Fidelity one that is in MSFs it goes to 200. Does anyone use these?

Always rockin’ videos Chris!👍 Exact same specs, I find DLSS Balanced DX11 best for me. TAA is too shaky. Still must “stop” that silly HolographicShell which randomly pops up and causes massive stuttering. I’ll try without Toolkit but I like the ability to adjust colours, contrast, brightness etc…

Have you looked in Geforce experience settings, colour settings etc are available there and you can save and switch multiple profiles.

Was using my daughters quest 2 and was able to set the default resolution to over 5000 (I cant remember) but I just got a Reverb G2 V2 for myself that everyone said was better resolution, but the highest I can set it to is 4320x2160. WTH?! If i wanted to use a blurry setting I would just use the Quest 2 at that setting. I thought the Reverb G2 was better?!?

I Have Reverb G2 3080TI Ryzen9 Thrustmaster Hotas Joystick and Throttle. When I am in VR the cockpit view moves around without me touching anything UP - Down - Side to Side Back and forward. Can't get rid of it. Fine in screen mode. Any ideas what can be causing it?

I am waiting performance review of rx 7900 xtx and xt series in vr on msfs2020 . I am just tired of nvidea unafordable prices . Unless the 4080 is reduce by at least 300$ canadian , i am planning to buy the 7900 xtx .
