Great video but I have a question. How come you don’t have the new annoying UI where the boxes pop up for you to interact with whenever you hover over the cockpit functions? It’s unplayable for me since I can’t choose selected/managed speed and altitude anymore. Very annoying!

Both auto pilots should be engaged on a CAT I approach. Even though you intend to land manually. This provides redundancy in case one AP fails on the approach and you’re still in IMC. The remaining AP will keep you locked onto the ILS until you become visual. When conducting an autoland make sure both FDs are on. Autolands should be conducted down to the appropriate minima. At Helsinki on 22L, the lowest minima you can use is actually CAT II. This requires 300m vis and a decision height of 112 ft. Not, the CAT I minima you used here although you are allowed to autoland in CAT I conditions. Just be aware the protected areas around the runway may not be clear. On autolands there is absolutely NO leeway in minimums! If you’re not visual at minima, you go around! It’s as simple as that. At minimums you need to see the required visual references to make a decision to continue below DH and land. If at any point you lose visual references after DH, you go around. In this case, on a CAT II approach you needed to see 3 consecutive lights of the approach lighting system, touchdown zone, runway centreline lights, edge lights or an combination of these, AND a lateral element. Approach lighting crossbar, landing threshold (green lights) or barrette of the approach lighting system. You had this easily so CAT II was not a problem here. 👍 The only time you don’t need to make a decision on whether to continue or not is on a CAT IIIB autoland with no DH. No decision is made to continue as it’s assumed the aircraft has enough redundancy to continue the autoland successfully below alert height (100ft) should a system fail. This is known as “Fail operational” which is indicated by CAT 3 DUAL on the FMA. If any failure occurs that lowers the redundancy of the aircraft, the red auto land light will flash and a go around must be initiated. The red autoland light will come on below 200 ft if something important fails. An RA, LOC or GS deviation etc. You can continue and land below DH if you believe a safe landing can be conducted manually using the visual references available to you. (this is very unlikely in reality!)

Autoland is smooth, but only used on CAT III weather with no visibility. Very few runways have this capability.

Real a320 pilot here! The angle of Attack isn't directly related with rhe 3° descent angle. The Angle of Attack indicates how high you're pitching relatively to the relative airflow (in other words, the ground). The 3° descent angle is your true vertical course compared to the space. Most planes on final approach are pitching up (like in this video) but they're actually descending. The seatbelts are turned on at 10000 above airport altitude. So, if the airport already is at 8000 you turn on the seatbelts at 18000. But that's not the case here. It's not your fault, but the speed brakes don't deploy like that in the air, and you don't usually use them 'cause you're killing Kinetic Energy. In this case I wouldn't use. The nkse lights are turned on just when you lower the gear, obviously, 'cause they're doing nothing now. On the air the spoilers are called speed brakes. Sorry, why was the chrono timing 1h? You know you can arm the localiser before you reach it, right? The approach button controls both altitude and localiser.

Your videos are a lifesaver for the MSFS community, learning while watching, so thank you for that. Something I want to ask, is the descent part, now I know you do the working out on the tablet etc and get a marker in NM of how far away you need to start descent, however I get flight plans ffrom Simbrief etc and import them into the sim, these flightplans have flight levels too, so for example next waypoint is saying FL160 while I'm at FL320 right now, but this is before the worked out top of descent using the calculator. So what shall I do, shall I just start descent using the calculator and ignore the flight levels in the planner, or shall I follow the planners flight levels?

The simBrief altitudes show you what altitude you need to be at by a particular point. If you're above you're too high, if you're below you're too low. It's something that will be improved once native VNAV is added to the plane, for now stick with the constraints and follow what the aircraft says down.

Yes, if ATC requires you to be at an altitude by a certain waypoint, override your MCDU and go with what the controller says. Ultimately they're the ones in charge of getting your aircraft down safely.

My aircraft won’t descend. I’m unable to pull the altitude knob and initiate the open descent, as my sim won’t pick up my input. I’ve tried using keybindings to do this but none do that. Problem I'm having that I never had in XPlane is controlling speeds. I noticed here that it's always on autothrottle but in many cases, I'm going too fast and when I go to dial in a desired speed, it kicks out of manual speed control and goes back to auto. Part of the problem is I'm using MSFS ATC and going by their decent instructions and it always puts you too high.

You will find your airport information on charts. I use Navigraph personally for this, but other options like Chart Fox are available.

Is the improved flight model by the FBW A320NX even felt by a novice simmer or just an experienced simmer, who has flown A320 numerous times?

That ultimately depends on what you want to get out of the aircraft. The difference between the default aircraft and newer FBW versions can definitely be felt, it's just not necessarily a focus point for someone who is flying to soak up the scenery for example. Flare law on landing has also been greatly improved on the FBW version too.

Great updated tutorial! I just have one question which is. How do you set it up properly so when you arrive at the gate you have ground crew available and someone to guide you in. Is there anywhere you can check to see your gate without atc telling you it?

Airports will have a gate assigned to you by default with all ground services. That will be where default ATC will tell you to go. Either contact them for your stand, or do what I do which is hope for the best and extend your taxi until you find them. 😅

You're aiming for the approach mode to be active, you can skip localiser. I ultimately added the step for the sake of simplicity and showing newcomers to the A32NX the process if required.

IRL the answer is yes, a green arc will show your estimated descent location. This has not yet been added to the A32NX.

IVAO and VATSIM will not be coming to console. They both require external software that cannot be implemented due to the locked-out nature of Xbox.

Drawyah, at 38:49 with regards to arriving at the gate you say "presuming you have set it up correctly" what do you mean by this? Do you mean if you are using ATC and they direct you to a gate? I use this tutorial religiously. I even wrote the whole thing out on notepad. But everytime I turn up to my arrival airport there is no way of the sim knowing which gate I'm going to as I cannot stand ATC at the moment. Is there another way to do this?

Yes, you need to request your gate from ATC. The only other alternative is to perhaps use Drone Cam to scout ahead and find where the ground crew are.

Does LS need to be activated even tho nav is on? Doesn’t nav follow the flight plan guiding horizontally to runway? Correct me if I’m wrong

If you have a STAR set which follows runway heading then you *can* do that, but without LS active you don't be connected to the runway localiser and therefore cannot let it control your heading and altitude.

METAR should *always* include local pressure whether it's in hPa or in. It doesn't have to say q.

Make sure your FMS speed (Cost Index) is set correctly and that you are either actively on VNAV or not descending too fast. Worst case use speed breaks to slow airspeed.

Ground textures are down to your internet speed. The better the connection, the higher resolution textures you get.

The aircraft should just continue. If not, just fly direct to the next waypoint and the aircraft will head back on track.

Yes mate the same thing has been happening to me. Its a bug and FBW are aware of it. Its something to do with the sims flight plan manager. I'm not sure why it suddenly started happening because when Drawyah put this video out, I was able to copy his tutorial exactly. But now on configuring the STAR my aircraft does a uturn and heads back for my Destination airport. Very annoying!

Feels a bit weird that you are using reverse thrust to land because irl i learnt that they are recomended to not use reverse thrust and the same at copenhagen that applies unless it's needed because of the noise abaitment.

Sometimes when I go to enter my ILS frequency into the FMS thing.. it only let's me do the number (109.9 etc) not the marker before it (HK etc) Is this due to the game not recognising it? Ah just realised it might’ve been a aircraft glitch. When I clicked the ILS button next to the FD, my PFD never changed to magenta writing thus not activating ILS. Bugger.

Yeah, you may need to cycle through the MCDU before actually being able to confirm your approach.

Pull is to set manually, push is to set automatic. Pull to control your own air and vertical speed, push to let VNAV control it for you.

Since 3 o 4 updates of the A320 NX, using the installer, the tablet come with problems for me, you can't imagine all that I have made, since deleting the the simulator until deleted the installer and tested all versions, Stable, Develop , and experimental. But nothing and any good news. The table appears in white color the screen and don't operate , and when appears in normal shape, is very old version, even don't let me load the flight plan from Siembrief! What can I do! Please help me to give solution to this issue.

How very odd. One step that may work for you, delete the A32NX mod and download this batch file from the FlyByWire Discord support channel. Why in the stable version of the A32NX do I get a warning of "To low - Terrain" when landing on an ILS approach, on the glide slope & the aircraft is spot on with the diamonds?

Stable FBW is not as up-to-date as the experimental, that's just an issue with an older version of the aircraft which has since been fixed in development.

That's likely prop drift, something that happens in real life. Apply some forward pressure on the takeoff run.

Yes. That's exactly what prop drift is. As propellers spin to the left, so does your plane. Applying downward pressure and use rudder to stabilise.

I love the A32NX but the ILS is awful - every airport I want to land at tells you to follow a transition point and screws up the path for ILS landing, you don't see planes in real life fly over the airport before making its approach - is there any way to delete these as I can't seem to do it

The latest experimental version of A32NX has a new FMS with custom navigation inputs. Give that a go, see if that sorts your issue out.

Oh trust me, I've been crashing constantly. I've had to put a lot of time cutting and creating convincing jump cuts between attempts. There are a few slightly noticeable jumps, especially around the x4 speeds. 🥲

It's all on the FlyPad! Worst case scenario you can calculate your top of descent by multiplying your flight level by three then dividing by ten. ToD = (FL*3)/10

I cannot understand anyone who speaks like a top gear TV presenter ie with no punctuation and stopping mid sentence or people who raise the pitch of their voices at the end of every sentence.
